I have an iPhone. My favourites are Voucher Cloud and the Rightmove App if you can have those.
Cheers Doozer! Why does it not surprise me that you have the Rightmove App;)? I hadn't heard of Voucher Cloud, but it is now on my mobile and ready to save me money:beer:Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I'm close to that time when I decide a phone's necessary/important. Lost my camera, looked everywhere for it for months, no sign. I never lose things, but I can't face doing a 35 mile round trip to the storage to take each individual box out of storage, into the car, unwrap them, go through to see if I DID somehow slip it in there (unlikely as I'd fear damp in such places), before sealing the box up again and trundling it back into the storage to get the next box.... I think I'd rather live with the fact I was lazy and wasted money on a new camera.
Thing is ... can I actually get a good camera on a phone now. I need macro, I need good optical zoom. So it'll be a huuuuuuuuuuge and long-winded um-ah, um-ah, um-ah over phones/cameras over the next 1-2 months before I finally do one of those bizarre things called a decision.
I've never seen a phone thingy that does internet, except on the TV adverts where they just whizz by.... and I've never seen/used an app either. Maybe I should start by going into a shop and touching one.0 -

Can anyone recommend some useful Android apps for my mobile? Having only used phone text and camera up until now, I'm sure there's loads out there I don't know about.
There is a tube map one and screen rush for cinema listings and facebook - assuming that android have comparable apps to blackberry.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. My phone has an 8 MP camera on it and does internet (although tends to throw wobbly from time to time). It's not an android phone though.....they tend to have the horrible touch screens which I do not get on with at all.
Not a scoobie about macro though, just know it takes a very nice picture and has a higher MP than my proper camera. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I'd keep the two things separate. A camera will come with a mounting thread which you can attach to a tripod, or a gorrillapod, and that, coupled with the self-timer, will help you to take good macro shots.
Here's a detail from a picture I did this week on macro. Would this sort of resolution be OK?
I just hand-held for this and snapped. With more effort it could be better. The point is, my camera is just a pocket jobbie, roughly equivalent to this one, not some DSLR.

I got it for £65 from an old chap who'd bought it and didn't get on with it. The zoom is too quick, but other than that, I find it fine for plant pictures and so on.
Edit: Whoops, sorry, the piccie is larger than expected!0 -

So, these are my needs/wants:
CAMERA: Bl00dy good optical zoom, macro, biggest/best possible MP so I can take photos to potentially flog as prints (I've taken/flogged photos in the past with my old camera, so I know what the score is there). I will be wanting to use the macro to take real detailed, close up shots of the stuff I'm planning on making. The ability to make short videos for youtube would also be beneficial - instructional videos, just short clips saying "look ... like that" or "see that? that's the way".
PHONE: Want to be able to take photos and easily get them onto the Internet; use some Internet for basic stuff like googling and using maps.google; might investigate these apps things, especially that rightmove one and a barcode one (the one that checks a barcode against items for sale online in real time). Beyond that I've no idea about phones.
Your eggs macro photo at http://i53.tinypic.com/2zof40l.jpg - oh boy .... oh blimey. Yes! Ideal. Then clicked the link .... I need to sit down first, then slowly (over time) convince myself to spend that much on a cameraOooooh but look at that, it's got 12x optical.....

Hello all - invited onto this thread. We exchanged on our new flat today! Yay!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Even relatively cheap cameras have come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years. If I was using one every day to make a living selling pictures, I'd go for something with the potential to change lenses & so on, but for most of us, a point-and-shooter will now deliver reasonable quality for everyday web use. Just about all the point & shoots do video now, but some do/don't let you zoom as you film.
A few weeks back, I had to buy a first chain saw, so I went to a local independent shop and took their advice. I ended up with a mid range model of a good brand, neither too cheap and underpowered, nor too well specified and a dangerous waste of money on a noob like me. I'd suggest you take the same approach. Anything mid range by Panasonic, Sony or Canon is likely to work well.0 -

Great to have you here, NDG, and congratulations on buying at such a good time, which is the time that's right for you, of course!;)
That's many of us who were looking and considering now sorted. Just one or two to go.....mentioning no names!
I know you're a night owl, and I try to be, but rising at 6am is essential now, so I'll leave you in Pastures' capable hands. A trip to the Eden Project today has taken it's toll.....0
