On my android I use:
titanium backup
angry birds
barcode scanner
dtd calculator (for tesco deal discussed above)
fancy widget
guitar tuner
msn talk
myplayer (old version which gives live bbc)
google maps and sat nav
google translate
and the default android browser. If you are on droid 2.1 I think flashlite is useful.
Of the apps that were on it when I got it, I use flashlight and maps, and the browser mostly for catching up on the nice people at odd moments when I'm bored but stuck somewhere. I find teeter handy for keeping my kids quiet.
I've installed Facebook, and a searchable Bible text, and DejaOffice (which syncs with Outlook without losing all the category information). The one I don't think is possible on an iPhone is Settings Profile. I only have the freebie lite version, but it's invaluable for my particular set of circumstances. It looks at my calendar, and puts the phone on silent if I am in school, at church, or in a meeting. Then it puts itself back to normal at the end of the school/church/meeting. This is useful for me because I have to have it on silent in those places, but am useless at remembering to put it back to normal afterwards, and I am also hopeless about putting my phone down and forgetting where I've put it, so I need it to be audible when I ring it from my landline to find out where it is.Have you rooted, removed network operator bloatware and upgraded rom?
Would this make my wildfire faster? And if so, how do I do it? Are there any disadvantages to it?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Like PN, I have never held or used a smartphone.
My phone is a phone. I can't see that I need a smartphone at the mo. I can see it being useful on rare occasions. I suppose people use it more & more because they can, & it is available to them.
I have never actually bought a phone. All mine (4 of them...) were given. The most recent being a birthday present.
Davesnave - how was the eden project? I assume PN knows it well too. Never been, I suspect I should go at some point.
It appears no one thinks I should go anywhere but the beach then? Not a single vote for anywhere else. I must admit to a little suprise that no-one thought Blists Hill may be nice/interesting (Wheezy clearly had a gander there though...;))
fc123 it probably is the closest. Looking at a map, the roads aren't really faster heading right. I think the 2 closest are North Wales areas, or Weston Super Mare (jump onto the M5, & keep going...).
Viva, michaels signature was basically paraphrased as "HSBC are robbing gits!"
NDG welcome, & congratulations. Hope you are very happy in your home. Feel free to make here a 2nd home. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Modaco seems the best site for newbie android tips by handset.
I have no idea what any of the above means...:o
On another forum I go on, there was a similar thread. Someone posted up about angry birds. I quipped that the only angry birds I know of are locked in my cellar.

I've been, probably 3-4x. Dislike it immensely to be truthful. I just don't "get it". So I go in, bl00dy long walk to the bottom, don't want to look a t1t and use the landtrain, then I go in the tropical dome first. That'd be OK if I had it almost to myself and could amble round, but there are other people too and the walkways are quite narrow, so you have to mostly walk at the pace of others.
Then I come out of there and trot across to the Mediterranean zone and that completely loses me.... !!!!!! is that bit all about?
I just don't find it interesting really. So what else is there... well, there's a limited selection of over-priced foods, IF you can ever find them open. Then outside there are some plant things to look at if you're into plants.
Job done and it's a hike up to the visitor centre, to amble round the overpriced shop of middle-class lifetstyle products and you're out again.
If you're into plants you could make it a full day. I'm just not into plants... or paying over the odds for a bit of hot chocolate and cakelemonjelly wrote: »

It might be OK on an inclement day out of season.lemonjelly wrote: »

Could you pack a tent and turn it into a 2-3 day event? Make the drive worthwhile.0 -

Hehe!:D
It is actually a nice, serene place, & the history bit does do it for me. There is an olde worlde printers shoppe there, & the guy in there last time was fascinating - explaining where phrases like out of sorts, mind you p's & q's, upper/lower case, being a dab hand and so many more come from (originating in the printing trade). It was fascinating & I liked it. Kinda interested in the St Georges day stuff there too.PasturesNew wrote: »WSM ... don't do it. If you're going to travel that far for a bit of sand, then you might as well look a bit further... although you're geographically disadvantaged as it's all estuary beaches so quite a long way to get to a "seasidey place". Somebody was sacked by some Heroes charity last week for tweeting about how awful the people in WSM were, she likened it to a place full of fat dole scum chavs smoking fags and drinking tinnies.
Could you pack a tent and turn it into a 2-3 day event? Make the drive worthwhile.
WSM was somewhere my grandparents used to take us as kids years ago. It is flat, so suited them. As kids, we really loved it.
To be honest, I went there 2 years ago purely because it was easy, & at 8.30am I realised if I didn't do something that day, it'd be 10 years without seeing the sea. So I walked out into the car & just went. It hadn't changed really, but was nice for the 1 day.
Difficulty with the 2-3 days thing is work, especially atm. Going a little bit further isn't a problem really, but I am mindful of the cost. Barmouth is relatively easy to get to though, & has a nice beach I am reliably informed.
Over the summer, there will be more days away (or even the 2-3 days that you suggest PN) as I'll be able to have time off work in july/august. I know the downside is that is busier times, however the weather will be nice, & that is all I want really - nice weather, nice scenery, & time to chill.:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

The kids live with their phones on vibrate. Time and time again we have the ritual where everyone has to stand absolutely still in various rooms in the house whilst someone phones a mobile so we can "hear" it vibrating somewhere.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. A couple of weekends ago eldest couldn't find his phone so he asked me to call it...quick as a flash, middle son called out "Phone, where are you?"
Hmm, doesn't 'sound' so good in written form, blooming funny in real life though.
For the Easter weekend (well some of it anyway), I am going to my parents caravan (also near the sea) as it is my birthday on Easter Sunday and my parents thought it would be nice to go out for a meal and later to go to the site club for drinks and a little celebration, in a way, have my 40th birthday party a year late as dad had his first stroke a year yesterday and obviously, because of that, my 40th had to be a very quiet affair. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Well done NDG
I'm 20 years down that road and i paid the last of my mortgage off yesterday! Yay also!
@viva What a great (Chinese) GP at the weekend. I like the changes they have made.
Can't help on the apps as i download them then never use them :undecided0 -

One of my cats LOVES that game. Sometimes I used to put it on vibate and hide it for her to find.
My hone died (its not very old either. It was a cheapy touch screen and the touchscreen doesn't respond anymore. Makes me nervous about investing in more expensive touch screens!
I'm having a day full of issues with ''people management''. someone wth whom I have a reciprocal arrangement is reneging on the arrangement and hoping I won't notice. I've notice twice nicely. I'm going have to notice less nicely this weekend.
Also, the kid who I let bring his sheep here was told he had to have adequate sheep electric. It ain't adeqaute. I managed to catch and return a ram this morning, now the ewes are out. I got him done to sort out the rest. He said he didn't know what to do as he was going fishing. I suggested he bring down his GCSE text books and shepherd the sheep while revising. His mother thinks this was an out of order suggestion. It was made very nicely.
I just feel if someone takes responsibility for something they have to see it through, and more to the point, his livestock depend on him. (he's off to agriculture college in Autumn and its going to be a rude awakening I fear).0 -
I can't imagine letting anyone of that age keep sheep on any land I owned. I don't imagine anyone who is still at school has the time to look after them properly. And if they fail to do so, in effect you end up having to step in. Actually, I can't understand parents letting their children own sheep at all. They are not dogs (and, even dogs are a big responsibility).“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
