Indoors, here, oncology appointment on Thursday. Presumably will know more then.
Appointment on Wed for something entirely different too, so that's two trips I have to make as Taxi Driver this week.

Best of luck with the appointments; I hope the results are good news. Will you hear straight away?

Given that you are living with your parents and presumably have their best interests at heart, it isn't that arduous being taxi driver on this occasion is it?

Free accommodation, so a bit of driving about isn't unreasonable. Not forgetting a bit of love and that sort of thing. DW was up at 6.30 to take her mum to hospital for an investigation. Hung about there and got back at 10.30. Investigation all normal, as expected.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    I've been Money Tipped!
PN, if it makes you feel less alone in the taxi to hospital/doctors I'm doing just the same today. with the menagerie here it takes a bit of planning, and delayed appointments make me edgy. It will be two hours on leaving here before I get parent and get to the hospital. It will mean the dogs, on a best case scenario are alone, locked in the house for say five hours. That's the end of my comfort zone...I feel longer than that is unfair for them to be without stimulation and comfort breaks and unfair on me when one decided it needs a piddle. :( I have to try very hard to not be rudely ipatient but a40 min overrun starts getting me carpet anxious.

I lookforward to having a lockable out door run. although the dogs would be comfortable out side...food water sun today and lots of shelter in barns..the risks of someone coming through a gate and leaving it open for dogy escape, getting bitten by dog dog or being stolen (they are popular sort of background breeding for people who want to breed coursing lurchers) is too risky for me to do it. Barking would also be a concern: though my neighbours tell me they love the added security dog-dog and big dog have given them: dog dog and big dog enthusiastically guard a gate they can't see from their home but is adjacent to mine and a route in thats been used by rustlers in the past. NOone gets in unheard now.

LydiaJ, for only 10,000 miles a year, I'm not convinced that a diesel is the best/most efficient option for you. IIRC I read somewhere that there was no soving unless you were travelling in excess of 20,000 a year.

I can only recommend wee cars, as never really had a huge one (oo-er missus!:o)

Hoping that misskool (should we be dropping the miss bit?) and Lydia are suffering no long term effects.

PN I have been a carer for someone who went through cancer treatment. Lasted me 5 months I think. Best of luck. If I can help, or give any advice or info, or a wee bit of encouragement I'd be happy too. Swap you for some good beach combing tales.:)

Still trying to chop up trees into little bits for the council to take them away next week. I fear I'll be doing this for a couple of weeks.

Nice people poll. I have decided on a day out on bank holiday monday. Not doing work & stuff. Haven't had a break since feb. The weather is looking good, so the census can walk (I'll do it sat/sun instead). So, the options are:

Barmouth (it is basically the midlands by the sea, as loads of people from round here go there. However, it does have a beach, & the sea is there, so why not? Travel time is approx 2 & a half hours)

A Little Village such as Church Stretton, or Much Wenlock or the like (downside is will everything be closed as it is a bank holiday?)

Or, a third option is Blists Hill http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/plan_your_visit/events_calendar/event.asp?id=572 voted in the top 4 visitor attractions last year. I did go there a year an a half ago though...but on the positive side, there are new attractions, it will be busy, the easter/St Georges day stuff will be different.

I'd like your votes please folks. What should jelly do with his day off?:)
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I would choose the sea just because I haven't for ages (and there is less pollen) but it does sound like a bit of a trek (but then all journeys feel like a bit of a trek with 3 young kids).]]I am due my CCS interview training on Tues although I haven't had the venue confirmed yet and as far as I know I remain a 'reserve' although I have had two phone calls chasing up my completion of the on-line training and asking to contact my referee. Today may be an interesting day, I may have a lot more free time soon, I will 'blog' an update at the other place this evening.
    I think....

Yeah, there is a part of me with that thinking.

I'm kid free, & don't mind the journey - gives me a good chance to listen to some top quality tunes!

The cost of petrol travelling that far is probably the thing making me hesitate a little.

The one that's most easily achieved, with least effort.

You could go to the beach - and have a kayaking lesson (if you need one), or borrow/buy a kayak and take it to the beach. Small pop up beach tent, couple of flasks, simple sandwiches in tupperware boxes (it's essential that they get sweaty for that 1960s/1970s authentic beach experience). Couple of easy books, e.g. joke books not novels. Small radio. Freeze some juice in tupperware beakers. Chuck in some crisps.

Then it's just a few towels, couple of quid for an ice cream .... and off you trot.

Check the tide times/height, judge the closest you can be and still be on a dry bit but not have to move with the incoming tide. Pop up the tent, chuck everything in it. Sit and enjoy ..... lugging the kayak out randomly... even if riding it's just a vague dream and you end up just using it to sit on.

    How far is it?
My diesel works out at just under 12p/mile... I continually read the mileometer and am aware just how much every trip's costing me :)
