I've been published today.
300 word piece. Got a monthly gig. Its unpaid:( But will keep me doing what PN suggests and writing.
I have decided that blogging is too far out of my comfort zone technologically I can't do it and fail and end up not writing just trying to work out HOW to write on the stupid internet. I think its back to thinking about another format for my drivel.0 -

I'm so sorry to hear that, PN.Eldest is going through a bit of a crisis at the moment, his studies are not going well, he seems to have lost his oomph and has no idea how to get it back. All the teachers say he is talented and knows his stuff verbally but he just does not seem to be able to transfer that to words on a page in any semblance of order.
Sounds to me as though he's finding life overwhelming at the moment - the denial thing and the sleep thing. Concentrate on helping him fix those, and his confidence to face his school work will probably come back. Ask him how he's feeling now that it's a few weeks since that incident where he left the house saying he couldn't cope with middle son's rages any more. Encourage him to get some kind of "talking help" (whether it's called "counselling" or not) for young carers. It is worrying me now but as he is 18 in 6 months and is essentially an adult, I can't force him up to the doctors or to see his physio and he refuses to go...what on earth do I do?
You make it clear how much you love him, how worried you get about what he's doing, and that sort of thing. You make him (by bribing him if necessary) get investigated for possible depression. And then you respect his choices. You've done a fabulous job of bringing him up. He's going through a blip right now, but in general he's a wonderful chap who'll make wise decisions in the long run because that's the sort of person he's become under your influence.Probably changed letting agent.
That idea intrigued me. I drove past the house this afternoon when I was over that side of town. It still has the same LA's "to let" board up, but it's not on RM any more. I peered through the front door. There's a jagged hole in the ceiling (5" or so across) and three circular holes (1" diameter), so somebody's obviously at least started investigating the problem, but the bucket I put to catch the drips is still there.
It makes me wonder if perhaps they are in financial difficulty and can't afford to do the repairs??? Considering they've just had five and a half years of me paying rent on time with no voids and no finding fees, and considering they bought it in 2002 for a fraction of what it would go for now, they ought to have been OK by now. But perhaps things haven't gone so well with their other properties.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

That sounds like an efficient method of washing up, but why is it man washing? Don't understand.
Teenage washing up consists of 'leaving it to soak' until someone else washes it up.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Man washing?
I j8st thought it was the lazy !!!!!! way of washing up. I have been doing it forever.
I do it with with children too.
One bath, two children. sit on the toilet seat reading a book for 20 minutes then hose them down
LIR, I have only read back two pages so apologies if you have already gone down this route. Try writing for the local paper for free. Approach them with a few things you have already written and offer to submit something similar every week. If they dont like it, they dont have to publish

Try switching off the internet when you go to bed. We had this with one of them Turned out that, though we thought they were going to bed early, they were actually chatting on line for hours.
Make the doctor's appointment; take him to the surgery and then suggest he goes in on his own.
Be firm or do deals. I'll do XX for you (ironing?) this week if you go to the doctor's or similar deal.
He is actually asleep rather than me thinking he is....and the laptop down stairs away from him, so no going online sneakily.
I have managed to get through to him on one issue, his English Language resit, he wasn't going to do it (they put them in early for the exam in Jan) but mine and the teacher's nagging finally got through that it would be a waste not too and that his results were on a par with the rest of the class bar about 2 people. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I'm busy... it's spring... lotsa things to doWriting a short ebook to try to sell on Amazon for £1... which means I've got to sort out all kinds of interesting technological weird things I've never tried before.
So probably won't be here much for a week or two, 'xcept to read.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I've taken my eye off the income ball. Didn't even make the £1k from Mr G this month
£1k's my benchmark.... usually manage to scrape by.... didn't quite make it this time.
Loving the new homepage though. I used to log in and then have to click elsewhere to find out "yesterday" and then select "this month" to see where I was at. Now, once logged in, it's all there: today, yesterday, month to date. Brilliant.
If today's anything to go by (I hope not), I'll be well short of £1k this month .... but, as you know, you can't tell what'll happen until after the event. Tomorrow it could be £1 or £10... who knows ... or £68 (had that once this year).0 -
IT advice please - can anyone recommend a free website availability monitoring tool - doesn't need any bells and whistles just regular monitoring and email exception reporting.I think....0

Might be a few blasts in a machine and it's fixed, or maybe whip some bits out and it's fixed, or .... well, maybe already had our last Xmas. I guess we're waiting for a phone call to make some appointment to go see somebody in that field, to maybe prod about more/take more photos or whatever. Really no idea what happens ... and the old one has no clue either... ever.
That's the thing isn't it, not knowing.
If you want some help with reading anything and getting it into plain language or generally stuff like that, i can help. PM me.0 -

Apart from that (which used to happen every Monday night for about 5-6 in a row, which was a costly nuisance), SiteUptime has worked well. It monitors, free, every half an hour and if my site's down it tells me. Then once a month I get an email giving me the overall availability - just received one earlier for March - showing me my first ever 100% uptime.
It sends an email when the site's down, then another when it's up again. It checks every 30 minutes (I think that was a choice/setting). If it detects it's down for a looong time, it sends an email saying it's not going to check again until I start the service again as it assumes there's a reason it's down for a long time and it's sent me enough emails about it
No idea if mine's good/bad, but it's free and so I use it.0
