"Typical library" .... I reserved a book, weeks ago. I think once it's arrived it's in the library for 7 days to be picked up. Just got the letter saying it's in, letter's taken 4 days to get here and library's closed today.

I'm being really lazy today. I just can't get going. I think I'm dehydrated, noticed I'm drinking less atm, but its cold and don't particularly fancy glugging water. I HAVE to go and do somethng soon. I did the kitchen and the bathroom earlier...but hours ago.. what IS wrong with me today?
It's hot, hot, hot here. Sunny, blue cloudless skies and hot.

My car outside temperature gauge the other day was showing 18 degrees and it's hotter today than that, but no idea how hot as I've not been in the car. The car and going out have lost all joy for me since yesterday's "upset" with the bit of paper we won't mention any more.

Temerature has definitely dropped the last few days.

Woke up this morning to lingering mist, extra cold, & it was here until I got to work.

Have spent a couple of weeks just in a shirt, but need to go back to wearing a jumper or cardi methinks...

When I left the house this morning the daffs seemed about to burst open into flower. I'm wondering if the cold spell will make them think twice.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Aaarrrgggghhhhh..... I am so frustrated at the moment.

My favourite uncle died a few years back. You know that voice of calm and reason that you can always go and speak to. He loved DH too and spoke science to him all the time. My uncle was a nuclear safety worker. When Three Mile Island happened, he barely batted an eyelid and gave lots of reassuring words. When Chernobyl happened, he was working constant overtime while telling us sensibly what precautions to take. There are so many armchair experts around on the threads at the moment, I'm sure some have a lot of nuclear science knowledge, but who? I wish my uncle was still here. He would tell me exactly where what is happening in Japan lies between Three Mile Island and Chernobyl and what the concerns should be. I'm sure we're not nearing nuclear disaster but I want someone to say that. He'd also be sitting down with DH having a really interesting conversation about it, both being scientists. Talking to my Mum yesterday, we both decided we really miss him.

AIUI, so far they've had some fires and some escapes of radioactive materials, but these have all been essentially problems with the conventional side of things - the cooling system and stuff - leading to things getting too hot in one place an another. These things are bad news if you live locally, which is why the Japanese were classing it as category 4 last time I looked (accident with local consequences).

So far there's been no hint of the chain reaction getting out of control. In fact the BBC site says that automatic safety systems put the control rods in to stop the chain reaction as soon as the earthquake occurred. So it seems unlikely there will be a full scale nuclear-bomb-type explosion.

The explosions have been chemical, not nuclear. The reactor construction uses zirconium, which has apparently been reacting with steam to produce hydrogen gas. Hydrogen is explosive with air, but that's nothing to do with the kind of explosion you get in an H-bomb, which is a nuclear fusion reaction, and quite different. There's no possibility that this hydrogen could do that. The risk is that chemical explosions involving hydrogen could make further breaches in the containment of the radioactive stuff, allowing a lot more of it out into the atmosphere, from where it could potentially spread some tens or maybe hundreds of miles.

In summary, the reactors are full of highly radioactive stuff (as they usually are), and they are too hot so parts of them are melting and letting some of the radioactive stuff out (which they usually don't). If things get worse they may let more radioactive stuff out. This is bad news (and could become worse news) for people in Japan and in places where the wind may blow the radioactive stuff. It won't affect us here.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

If tomterm8's about .... are your google earnings seriously down today? Mine's shockingly low... currently just above 1/3rd of last Thursday :(

It's hardly enough for a hearty meat pie and chips at a Wetherspoons!

I've never really done well with google anyway, I find Amazon easier. I have a few projects I've been trying out... to try to get more money out of them.

But now you say it, I have been getting much less per click than normal on adsense, and my diversification strategy is down the toilet... hubpages.com has really gone crap... I sold more products on the first day of last month than I have since the google algorithm update.

Just as I was getting hubpages up to a couple of hundred a month... grr.

Michaels, I had a telephone interview. They said it'd take 15 mins. It took 5.

I got asked a series of yes/no questions.

I was then asked to give an example of how I worked as part of a team. After 4 mins of wibbling by me, the guy stopped me & said he had enough info.

    I got the post!

I've now done the online training & am booked for the half day classroom training next week. I have my conditional offer too. I've sent off my ID docs. Just waiting on confirmation, & will start next month.

on't know whether you're going for a different post to me though - I've just gone for a census collector post, as it fits in with everything else.

PM me if anything isn't clear.:)

The 'interviewer' was clearly in a call centre, so you'd probably want to make sure you're somewhere quiet when they call - it could be quite difficult to hear at times. In the main I found that the interview mainly covered questions I'd already answered when applying online - e.g. dates available, willingness to work evenings/ weekends etc.

The half-day training was fine if a bit of a waste of time - mainly centred on role play. I must say that I thought our trainer gave us some wrong information about coding (will make more sense after doing the online training), but maybe I just the wrong idea...

P.s. Lemonjelly - make sure you take your id docs to the training session too (and I took another photocopy)

Since the algorithm change, after that first 1-2 days it all evened out again, it's probably been a tiny bit lower than previously, but overall pretty steady and reasonable. But then today it's gone splat. Figures don't look too dissimilar to previous, just they're not coming up trumps with the £££. Tomorrow I can analyse the Imps, CTR, CPC etc and see if there was a difference. Also compare with the same Thursday last year.

My hubs have been OK I think, I was sitting just over the £100 or so.

I really don't spend enough time working the stuff that works - I don't have the right writing environment/space here at all. And I've been wrapped up in my new hobby, with lots of googling to find stuff out for that.... and beach trips, which are part of the business plan.

I should write more - but to write I need personal space, unhindered, uninterrupted. And possibly a chair to sit in :)

I can't even really read a book here.
