Well you don't need to do that. There's lots of support on here.

DH contested a speeding ticket a few years ago (only a tiny bit over the limit which he was prepared to argue he hadn't done... knowing the road and the speed camera well). The letters went to and fro for maybe a couple of years. It was [STRIKE]a private company[/STRIKE] probably some affiliated enforcement unit but not the police themselves. Eventually they gave up.

A relative in the police says (with speeding anyway) it's worth asking for the photographic proof as they likely won't be able to provide it.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Oh PN, can you post it to the parking charges board here and I can link to it on Pepipoo for you even if you don't get enough replies on MSE?

I do know how it feels, when I got a fine from TfL for the Congestion Charge I really couldn't sleep for weeks. And believe me, I still panic now every time I drive in London and check, check, check everything. By trusting the people at Pepipoo I went to PATAS appeal and won. TfL even had to refund the congestion charge which I paid to them, so it ended up free - which wasn't my aim at all, and I even felt a little sick about that. But I got over it and cashed the cheque, they'd upset me so much.

Did you get that broken scanner working? If you scan it then I'm sure lots and lots of people will continue to reassure you that you're doing the right thing. I've just been reading the forums on there this evening and had forgotten the people on there have spectacular amounts of knowledge! The forums are such interesting reading (I'm such a nerd!)

I'm really sorry that this has caused such anguish to you. I hope I haven't added to it, I just don't want to see you any lighter than you need to be.

I just found this on the web....

'A man was driving along slightly above the speed limit, he heard the sound of a siren and saw blue flashing lights in his rear view mirror. Instead of stopping, he stamped on his accelerator . After a few minutes the police eventually pulled him over and asked why he didn't stop. He replied, two weeks ago my wife left me for a traffic cop, so why didn't you stop asked the police man., beacuse I thought you were bringing her back!'

Yes - this thread is certainly getting a bit sticky and sweaty after nearly 4k posts.

PN I got one in the supermarket (well actually the DW) - she was all for paying it and I would have too as you get some scary sounding letters and amounts but having rad the facts on this website and seen examples of the letters I have hung tough despite feeling anxious and haven't heard anything for about 4 months so I think they have gone away.

I was lucky - as I am the registered keeper but was not the driver I knew I was not responsible and also that I did not need to say who was which helped on the reassurance side but basically the guys on pepipoo are correct - there is nothing they can legally do to make you pay their charge.

Miss K I'm glad you were back in time for Cheltenham - it has been a matched betting bonanza (as usual) - perhaps with a new address and new name you could redo all the bookies?!

Anyone who has done the census phone interview - any tips?
