If they HAVE video taped you, you can have great fun. Get out your diaries and work out when you have been there before. Send them a data protection act S.A.R. - which costs £10 and a piccy of yourself... don't admit it was you driving... and ask for a copy of their video. Make sure you specify you want it in a vhs readible format (they are legally required to give you the data in a format you can use).

Costs you a flat rate £10... and for every time you've been there, it costs them something like £200 to review it and get it put onto VHS.

They'll send you back a letter saying they don't have anything... machine was out of order for maintenance.

    Case closed.

Won't they just say that they only keep the bits of the videos that they need?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Doesn't matter. They still have to give you a copy of the video in VHS format... which will cost them a lot of money to do. Much more money than the price of the parking ticket.

So, you send them £10 and ask for a copy of the video they took of you last 10 July. They keep the £10 and tell you they have no videos from 10 July. Am i missing something?

I can't remember every time I've been there, to be honest I've probably gone to use that permit just about 4 times since it was issued... I only popped down today for a bit and even looking at the time it says I was there I couldn't be sure when I'd actually arrived even.

I think what annoys me is that I forgot ... and that they were clearly just sitting around an easy target, to rake the cash in. The car park has never been full in my experience, in the past 15 years I've used it. It's "out of season". It was virtually empty. It's a beach car park, not a residential area visitors car park, not a High Street limited time parking facility.

They just picked some easy targets, which wasn't benefitting anybody except their pocket.

Nobody was being denied space to park, the businesses were probably closed (out of season it is), nobody was being harmed, no small animals suffered.

If they don't have video of you, then they won't win any court case. You only use it if they decide to go to court. It will cost them more money than the parking ticket price to produce the videos and the costs won't be recoverable during the court case.

I once was buying a parking ticket while the attendant hovered around. When I came back I said that I had just been buying the ticket. His reply was that he timed people - he knew exactly how long it should take them to get their ticket!

Now. treliac, don't mention such people... not on the nice thread, otherwise, my language won't be so nice.

    What if they video'd me??

Then they will know what the driver looked like, but they still won't know what the owner looks like, will they. ;) Can't match you up.

You know that they're deliberately fleecing you, so don't be scared. Have a chocolate and take GBD's cuddle :)
