Saif Gaddafi - been in the news about his LSE connections. It's been squatted today by a group of Libyan activists (or maybe just a group of guys who fancied breaking into a super deluxe house and posing as do-gooders). As soon as they broke in, they phoned up all the press and the press duly turned out for them. There were loads of press there, and it's been all over the London news channels.
I don't really read foreign news online... and I don't have a telly.

I get my news from random links dropped into MSE.

Is that the same Mr Fox who keeps claiming he can't afford his first house?

I actually quite like foxes and don't mind when I see them, there are quite a few in the fields round here. Would probably think differently if I kept chickens though.

O the shame (esp as LIR and Davesnave about) but I confess our london suburban ones are as tame as dogs/cats..almost a cross between them both....and they get all our food scraps and the odd treat.
I think one is pregnant now too.....was a baby from last year. Worse I can ID all 3 by their faces and they put their heads to one side and just look at me...never run away either until I am 3 foot from them.

    Evening all,

A total break from anything sensible, but I just found a quiz the Guardian ran a couple of days ago. We all know that Col Gaddaffi is as mad as a box of frogs and that Charlie Sheen as bonkers as a rocking horse on a swing. But given they are both prone to ranting, take the test and see if you can work out who said what:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/quiz/2011/mar/01/muammar-gaddafi-charlie-sheen-quiz

I scored 6/10 but it's pretty hard. Good luck!

Love it...going to fwd to my stepfather who is recovering from a stroke he had 10 days ago and he like s quiz.....was all a bit to the wire this time......but he's recovering well. He was in St Thomas' stroke unit for 3 days and came home.
I hope his recovery is perm as I will have competing mothers on who moves in (mine or OH's ) as neither want to live alone. Oh dear.

and *wave* to treliac too. Hope your mum gets well soon.

hey PN have you moved into your new place yet?

Do we think Pobby is OK? His message seemed a bit disjointed?
Dunno, he never invited me round for a brew.
I think I drove through his town today, which took me by surprise as I had no idea where I was and saw some houses through some trees and thought "There's a town - wonder where that is", and was about 10 miles out in my guesstimate, then realised where I was. It looked a lot cheerier than the last time I remember visiting (in about 1998).

In and out. We don't talk about it, I'm still traumatised by having made such a !!!!!! decision, but grateful there was no AST involved, so I could literally turn and run.... and did.

I'm gong to sound like someone else.

Our washing machine decided now was a good time to break (well on last legs with bearing failure) so finding a good deal on a new machine but now sold out in most places, drove 45 mins to Milton Keynes to buy the display model as this was the only one we could find anywhere locally.

Got it home, mucked up my back again taking the old one out and putting the new one in and then discovered that the door catch was broken :(

Not sure what to do now - back is terrible and I seriously wonder if I could get it back in the car plus the petrol and time cost of returning it and then still not having a washing machine...

    Any suggestions?

Oh and did I mention the car almost broke down on the way back, it now only has 1 gear that works (3rd) and I don't even want to think about what a new gear box will cost.

I did get a good deal - 525 for a 8kg 1600 spin machine but 170 of that was an extended warranty which I can cancel as the manufacturers are offering a free 6 year warranty via online registration but somehow that only makes it all worse as I'm sure I won;t be able to repeat the deal when I do eventually get a new washing machine.

Do we think Pobby is OK? His message seemed a bit disjointed?

I think door catches are quite easy to mend/. If you got the xtd warranty, then doesn't it cover the breakage?..after all, you own it now so the warranty kicked in from the day it came home. I'd file claim tomo :D

Yeah..Pobby not sounding well..I hope he logs back in this pm. to say hi.
...and big grins to all on here too :D My OH isn't coping well with all the pressure at the mo, esp making the right decisions as too many opps are coming in right now and we can't realistically manage all of them so are being selective. He is panicking that we will 'miss it'' plus he's not a natural administrator and 90% of his time seems to spent on administration right now.

On the plus I just had a good 2 days. Yesterday I went for a demo and learnt how to create 1st patterns and grade on CAD...OMG I love love love it. It will save me 7 hours in 8 too ....so what takes me 8 hours to do manually (with scissors and pencils and card) will take about 1 hour ...oh yes ... I want it now. I can also e-mail the file and spec.....rather than box the card patterns up and send by parcelforce.

    Downside..it's 10 k .....:-0

Today I went to a textile trade event in Sth Molton st and picked up some ace suppliers/fabrics...I bet tomo will be rubbish now.:o

You didn't mention which shop you got it from, but assuming this is a pukka shop - but they can't be because they sold you an extended warranty without telling you about the manufacturer's warranty - just tell them to come and collect it. It's not of merchantable quality, so reject the goods under SOGA. Do that straight away.

You can negotiate from there - maybe you'll accept a repair and a price reduction.

In the meantime, where's the nearest launderette?

BTW, is the car worth more than the gearbox?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Oh dear..I only read back 3 pages did I miss the tale?

So, did you just say I've changed my mind? Best to have done it straight away......what's that phrase grandma used to say '' Act in haste/ repent at leisure''? I hate that old one but true sometimes.
    We've all done it too...well I have.

Actually, I kind of did it recently as we are having the usual webshop probs (so I have begun to open an Ebay one 'just in case') so a bloke (the one I sent you the quote of) called me again (he calls all the time...he's like a stalker) and said he'd come down...and I kind of rushed in and just said to him ''OMG I so need a new site..like NOW'' !......so I am now at the mercy of the hard sell......got messages, phone calls and bla bla bla ...........and it is waaaay overpriced @ 9k.
I don't have 9k spare to spend and would rather have my CAD pattern equip anyway.
How do I tell him nicely to go away?

    I miss you!

Can I pick your brains now? don't worry of you are busy....but I've got into my head I NEED some missoni or missoniesque fabric for curatains. But missoni aren't making the right sort of fabric. I want something like the classic chevron stripe

    http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.thelovecollage.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/missoni-chevron.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.thelovecollage.com/2009/12/30/a-vintage-story-about-chevrons/missoni-chevron/&usg=__NtgQdyb5MK-jBPQSktEb2vRf_C4=&h=960&w=1080&sz=391&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=VLZUj4T6p9kiGM:&tbnh=153&tbnw=171&ei=Mf53TcjWEomDhQeqkvhw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmissoni%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DOz7%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1045%26bih%3D485%26tbs%3Disch:1%26prmd%3Divns0%2C165&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=777&vpy=122&dur=759&hovh=153&hovw=172&tx=141&ty=51&oei=Mf53TcjWEomDhQeqkvhw&page=1&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0&biw=1045&bih=485

woah, hope that link works for a google image, it looks funky so might not....first, second or bottom left would all do.....very Sforza..you know what I mean? Bright, classically-funky. To go against grey or blue walls and a bird cage lamp http://www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/product.aspx/new+finds/bird+cage+lamp/spring/spring_newfinds/-/slh3889.htm (that I know no one else here likes, but I do)Any ideas?
