Any one know what water appearing under a boiler would be? I have to wash my hair and the house is so cold I feel utterly grim about it. I'm going to spend all evening procrastinating.

Could just be a leaky valve. If its a combi you will have to top up the pressure, otherwise just put a bowl underneath. Could also be other things, ideally you want to know where the water is coming from as you don't want water damaging the electrics. We had our boiler dripping for a while before we noticed and then a few days before the plumber got to us, turned out to be a just leaky washer.

Just heard that friend's sister and family are on a plane out of Cairo, after waiting for two days in an airport hotel to get a flight to ...anywhere. Apparently they couldn't get a flight to the UK but are on their way to somewhere in Europe.

and a day in Greece and they are now in the UK.

They have been working in Cairo for 15 years, I don't quite know what they will do here and how long they will need to stay.:(

Meanwhile OH is in Chicago. He knew the weather would be bad, but not this bad. Chicago is facing the worst blizzard since records began.

What is it about? What style is it? & why did you like it enough to recommend it?:)

Oh dear. I'm not a literary critic.
Actually read it on a break last year but was talking about it recently and thought I must post it in here for you bookworms.

It's fiction. It tracks the life of 2 people (Emma and Dexter) on the same day, each year for 20 years. Each chapter is one year apart. Get what I mean? I've not explained that very well.
It is both funny and touching.
I liked it cos it did both very well I guess.
I don't want to say too much.
    Just read it will ya!
    :D

My left mouse button isn't working and I think my computer is out f warranty (it went back to them twice for this last year). I have however managed to something that to me seems very clever but to the rest of you probably sounds ''and?''. I went to control panel and made the right hand mouse do ''click'' and left the left hand one as it is. Its better than the alternative (which was throwing computer against a wall and swearing.)

Yay! Well done. You are allowed to feel chuffed any time you learn to do something on a computer that you didn't previously know how to do.

I agree it's probably a valve. I've spent this afternoon talking to a heating bloke. Unlike the one I got to look at the house last year when I was first thinking of buying it, who said the whole system would need replacing, this one says the existing radiators will be just fine on a new (pressurised) system, but he recommends replacing all the valves otherwise there would be a risk of minor leaks. He didn't seem to think minor leaks were much of a problem, just that it was easier to replace the valves while the system was down anyway, rather than waiting until they caused hassle. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
