I am always staggered by "after" pics because I've never seen real houses like those before. And that's one of the reaons I wouldn't try to be a developer, I've no idea what things are in posh houses... I've always lived in old fashioned ones with floral carpets and draughts.

    Blimey, that is just gorgeous.....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Just heard that friend's sister and family are on a plane out of Cairo, after waiting for two days in an airport hotel to get a flight to ...anywhere. Apparently they couldn't get a flight to the UK but are on their way to somewhere in Europe.

Absolutely stunningly gorgeous Doozer. Just goes to show what can be achieved if you put your tax return to one side and get on with something more interesting instead;). Sorry, only joking. Only got mine in on Sunday. What a total waste of time to show that I owed the taxman a whopping £36. I'd have offered up double that just to have not done it.

David Nicholls fans, has anyone read "Starter for Ten"? That's his book that I'm fancying at the moment. Would really appreciate a review if anyone's read it.

Have also been mooting The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Attwood as I like the occasional dystopian tome.

Wageslave, if you're around, that's not your book being released in a couple of months is it? I've read the buzz....

I've read starter for ten and it was VERY funny (I remember that one) DH also really enjoyed it.

If it is ws book will someone tell me what it is so I can read it. :)

    For you bookites.

Try "One Day" by David Nicholls.

    Loved it.

What is it about? What style is it? & why did you like it enough to recommend it?:)
I liked it I think but can't remember it now. I saw it near the top of a box I'll read it again this week.

Oh I have another one to recommend too...Room by emma donoghue. I was dubious but its so sympathetically written. I think the quality of writing makes it worth while dealing with the difficult subject matter. I'd recommend it to non-booky friends for the gruesome but safely so story line...but its really the characterisation that is handled well.

    Same questions as above Lir!:)

By the way all, thanks to everyone engaged in petition signing etc.

An update for you, is has been raised as an Early Day Motion in the Commons:
EDM 1377: Closure Of Birmingham Citizens Advice Bureau
That this House views with the gravest concern the proposed closure by Birmingham City Council of all five advice bureaux across the city; commends the independent service and open door advice which the Birmingham Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has provided since 1939 and which helped 56,000 people last year; believes the decision by Birmingham City Council to cut funding to be ill-conceived and detrimental to the interests of the wider community; and calls on the Government to intervene immediately to ring-fence CAB funding in Birmingham and across the country thereby ensuring the continued provision of a free and independent advice service to many of its most vulnerable citizens.
Tabled by Roger Godsiff, Monday 31st January 2011

    Signed by Jeremy Corbyn

Put your MP to work request they sign EDM 1377
Early Day Motions are very good ways of raising issues in parliament, which may not get debated in normal sittings of parliament.
You can contact your MP for free, through: WriteToThem.Com
    http://www.writetothem.com/

The more MP's sign up to the EDM, the better...

Room is about a boy and his mother locked in a room. And why. And how this impacts upon them. I like it because though it s brutal subject that subject is handles as sensitively as you'd hold a butterfly. You can't help but like a character...the boy...whose sanity and intelligence seems somehow implausible yet believable and who tackles huge things with courage.

Starter for ten is a bout a boy from a working class family (mother and sort of step father his dad is dead) who goes to university and has aspiration towards the TV show University challenge. Its funny.

I'll go and try and remember more about the other one...

    edit...or I will in a bit...HUGE delivery of concrete....

I forgot to look out that book.

My left mouse button isn't working and I think my computer is out f warranty (it went back to them twice for this last year). I have however managed to something that to me seems very clever but to the rest of you probably sounds ''and?''. I went to control panel and made the right hand mouse do ''click'' and left the left hand one as it is. Its better than the alternative (which was throwing computer against a wall and swearing.)

Any one know what water appearing under a boiler would be? I have to wash my hair and the house is so cold I feel utterly grim about it. I'm going to spend all evening procrastinating.
