Do the girls clean all day? Surely they do something else?

It's skewed. It's not quite dishonest but it isn't wholly honest either

    That kind of traveller, yes.

All travellers, without exception, are obsessed with cleanliness. We are born clutching bottles of bleach

So OH was meant to be working in Chicago. Offices shut at 3 pm today to allow people to get home and will be shut tomorrow all day. He's returned to hotel with little possibility of getting out and about tomorrow. So no work for him and no way of him getting to the shops for me :( Risk of wide spread power cuts as well. Worse case scenario is that he flies home without getting any work done!

At least he'll be safe in the hotel, and hopefully with minimal disruption.

Its a magpie paradise it the garden looking in the earth from the trenches. Loads of old bottles and jars....undamaged, bits o metal scrap....loads of old bricks. No sign of the pond we feared might be there (was there once) an the soil is great...but there is lots of stuff.

I've been picking out jars and bottles ....not sure what for...but its weird seeing undamaged stuff in the mess..

Big fat gypsy wedding last night.
Most surreal moment : Straightening the dolls hair on the wedding cake.

Most worrying moment: the boys driving over the pavement to avoid the traffic.

Which got me thinking, most of the boys couldn't read, so they wouldn't have been able to pass their driving theory test. So they are all driving with no driving licence, so they wouldn't be able to get car insurance. No car insurance = no road tax.....

Sweetest moment: the daughter being upset at her mum being left alone when she marries.

Upsetting moment: the 11 year old having to leave school to look after the kids - where was the mum in that family? What happens to the youngest child in any family? Who do they look after?

Tinker families mostly left Ireland during the gorta mor. The threat of starvation is a powerful motivator.

Whole families literally packed up into wagons and became itinerant workers. Welcome nowhere and, for the most part, shunned by the communities they passed through, they became isolated from the general population and formed their own, extremely close-knit, community.

One hundred and fiftyish years later we have almost become a living example of nineteenth century working class morals, attitudes and beliefs.

I've been thinking abut Malcolm today. Hoping he's ok.

So, I have about a dozen what I think are Camp Coffee bottles and a few jars with ''heinz 57 varieties'' written in red on the lid. I thought Heinz 57 was a mongrel....what came in jars? Soup??
