    Good news LIR.

    A car is replaceable.

    DH isn't.

Out of interest, did you have to drag him kicking & screaming? Or did he come willingly?

    I didn;t go. :)

I love DH, insanely. But he is not my child, and I'm prepared to ''baby him'' only so much (and that's about 25% of the amount he mollycoddles me :o). For a start I don't want to get any bossier than I already am, both for myself....its not endearing nor is it very restful to be too bossy. But also for DH..more obviously...its not nice to be bossed. So...I'm prepared to be a bit manipulative and make ''big eyes'' but not prepared to drag an adult man to medical help. No, no siree. No dragging to be done by me. Instead I called my dad and told him to take dh.:rotfl::rotfl:

Very nice, is they are standard beads and just wire, then about £15 or so, depending on where you are in the country.
If you upscale to silver and use precious stones, you can then probably sell it for £40+ (depends on the length).

I'm guessing at prices because I look at website which sell things a lot. I don't buy a lot but I like looking at them. :rotfl:
To those that are worried dh got a clean bill of health. The whiplash we've been told to keep warm, keep moving gently and he's to nap when he feels like it. No glass in his eyes. They said there might be a little in his hands, but if its embedded to leave it there rather than dig about for it. :)

Now no need to worry about him we can start to worry about the car :)

Glad to hear he's been checked out ok. were you sending out photos of the accident?

Are you deciding what to do about the car?

I'm in shock. I'm home and it's not 6pm. Not commuting for 3 hours a day frees up a lot of time that never existed before....

Oooh, just saw a preview of this:

    http://www.comedy.co.uk/guide/tv/10_oclock_live/

I thought it might appeal to those of you who like me enjoyed The Day Today. I need to add David Mitchell to the list of comedians I like. I find Jimmy Carr funny too, but don't like him as much, if that makes sense.

Is anyone else watching the new Walliams/Lucas effort? DH says it is scarily accurate in parts.

Viva I agree with you re Jimmy Carr, though I find him less funny as time goes by.

I may watch, depending on getting other stuff done.

I will be watching channel 5 at 8pm though...;)

I've got concerns, not because of the items themselves, but because I think the market place is shrinking. I'm told the "TableTops" as some people call them around here, with crafts / car-boots are seeing same sort of numbers of old visiting, but fewer people buying.

If you cornered a desirable luxury item which can sell for £1,000 pounds costing £300 to make... well one sale at £1,000 gives a lot of profit. Low order items... trying to sell for £15 on an item which has £2(?) of materials, time to make, stock. How many you need to sell to make a living? Markets are complicated out there, and prone to change which has only been forestalled by many a policy rescue action.
    Necessities May Not be Profitable

Surprisingly, luxury goods do better in a depression than basic necessities. This requires some explaining. You might expect that luxury sales would fall away and only necessities would be purchased during a slump.

But this is only half-true. The majority whose spending power has fallen will spend the little money they have on necessities. That does not mean the people who sell those necessities are going to make much of a profit.

It makes no difference whether the industry makes a product that is "essential." Bread is an essential, but baking has often been less profitable than selling diamonds, which are not necessities.
In a depression, the service sector is like a shoal of fish trapped on a beach with the tide receding. As real income falls, many service companies starve for customers. Many consumers no longer find it cost-effective to purchase services they can perform more cheaply for themselves. So they don't. Once they get out of the habit, it may take another generation coming of age with a higher income to restore demand.

The reason that services rise as income rises is that the opportunity costs of doing certain things things for yourself, like fixing a mean or ironing your shirts, rise. This pushes more household and personal chores into the market. If you are making two hundred thousand pounds a year in the City, spending one hundred pounds a head to eat in Ramsey's Palace can be a bargain. It economises your time. You find it cheaper to pay someone else to get your dinner rather than take a few hours to make it yourself and then clean up.

But when Edmund Sherman loses his job, he can heat up some chili or eat a hot dog. He does not have to keep the limo driver hovering outside, or worry about hailing a cab. It is amazing how many services you can do without when your income falls.

Restaurants, particularly, will feel the services slump. Especially joints like Ramsey's Palace selling Veal Boogie Woogie. Expense account dining will take another cinch or two in its belt in a downturn. For the first several years of a slump, expensive restaurants will suffer. So will high-end restaurant chains and suppliers. Consumers will be value-driven.
I'm not criticising though. Maybe I'm wrong. I want to offer alternatives. I'm certainly not against manufacturing - all for it with specialist niche products (eg home security).

Just have my doubts as to the profits when there is a big increase in people wanting/needing to become cleaners, or perhaps hoping to profit from selling craft-goods. I feel bad for posting this... certainly I recognise PN is intelligent, has some real business smarts, and capable of real success, but hope her energies and talents are channelled into the right areas from the beginning.

I had to go away and look up what was on at 8pm. I can now state quite categorically that nobody has stolen your ID and signed on as you today.

I think the prices are about right for craft fairs, house party sales and the like. If you can get an independent bitsy shop or jewellers to stock your stuff then you could double those prices.

I like this website for jewellery making:

    http://www.jewellerymaker.com

It has some tutorials on too. I don't know what their prices are like, but I like that they do silver and semi-precious stones.
