DH is watching a Fawlty Towers on Dave. Only 12 were made and they are classics - still very watchable.

I think comedians tend to be quite complex characters. Remember the classic Tony Hancock? :)

I used to use a few of the classic Tony Hancock shows, e.g. 'The Radio Ham,' for listening skills with Year 6. :)

After a 15 minute extract, I'd ask questions, which they'd be madly competitive about answering, but a secondary value lay in grasping the historical and social context of the piece within the context of 'Britain Since 1930.'

And don't worry, after we'd sorted out what the heck was going on in these shows, I'd play them through in their entirety for enjoyment. Of course, few, if any of the children, had heard of Hancock.

Not surprising, he died in 1968.

Yes, I think 'decency' shines through him and I always find that attractive. However, I think he's a bit on the short side. :D

Sharing a similar physique to Mr Hislop, you have no idea how sad those lines are for me.:(

I was once besotted with a girl who, her friends informed me, was slightly keen, but felt I was a "few inches too short." (It's height we're talking about here!)

Undeterred, I persisted in my amorous advances and, after catching her a little worse for drink, a relationship started. Suddenly, my height was no problem, but the initial difficulties I'd had though being vertically challenged still hurt deeply. I was right back in the playground again.

Anyway, after many months together, one day I was informed by this young lady that she had chosen another. I wasn't surprised, as I'd secretly feared all along that some dashing, tall and handsome young fellow would wrest her from me. It was really just confirmation of the inevitable.

Imagine how I felt then, the first time I saw them together. He was much the same height as me, and definitely a little podgier, but what really struck home was that he had 20 years more on the clock and was not just thinning, but shiny bald on top.

I can't tell you if he was 'decent.' I know she didn't marry him. That honour went to a strapping chap from Huddersfield, who was totally into pigeons. I think she probably deserved him. :D

Err....not quite, but the parents of the kids were my age and older, and it was still the case in those days that people listened to cassette recordings of old shows. e.g. The Goon Show, Hancock's Half Hour, Round The Horne etc. This was pre-video.

Oh Darling Davesnave, I've managed to offend you twice (the 1968 was only a joke)..... sorry!!!

I have absolutely no doubt that you are utterly gorgeous and, believe me, your decency gleams through. I promise. :A

Now now Pastures I'm taking no notice of you. He's delicious and probably just the right height for you anyway. ;)
