Oh Darling Davesnave, I've managed to offend you twice (the 1968 was only a joke)..... sorry!!!

I have absolutely no doubt that you are utterly gorgeous and, believe me, your decency gleams through. I promise. :A

Honestly, I am not in the least offended and I enjoy a laugh too. (Theoretically, I could have begun teaching in 1972)

As with the purchase of property, waiting proved to be worth it in the end. DW came along, just as I was beginning to lose hope. :):)

I used to use a few of the classic Tony Hancock shows, e.g. 'The Radio Ham,' for listening skills with Year 6. :)

After a 15 minute extract, I'd ask questions, which they'd be madly competitive about answering, but a secondary value lay in grasping the historical and social context of the piece within the context of 'Britain Since 1930.'

And don't worry, after we'd sorted out what the heck was going on in these shows, I'd play them through in their entirety for enjoyment. Of course, few, if any of the children, had heard of Hancock.

I've used "Yes Minister" in teaching. I had to do a general studies session, loosely to do with something connected with a theme of "Science Ethics". So I found the episode where Hacker has to decide whether or not to license a chemical plant and used that. It's a half hour show, so in an hour lesson you can watch 10 min, discuss for 10 min, watch 10 min, discuss, watch 10 min, discuss. For the general studies programme I had to do the same session five times with five different groups of kids. It was fascinating how differently the discussion would go, almost entirely depending on the viewpoint of the first confident kid to stick their neck out and express an opinion.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

A happy ending.... as with all love stories. And disappointment for all other contenders for your heart!

P.S. Just ignore that PN!! :)

Roger Daltrey and I know that our 'performance' cannot be measured in mere centimetres! :p

Only one session of preparation, though!

I always used resources from film, TV and radio, often because they were more stimulating than those specifically designed for education. Films like 'Goodnight Mr Tom' or (suitably edited!) 'Hope & Glory' were great for WW2 studies.

One has to be careful in Primary school, however. I once showed a perfectly innocuous Health & Safety film, which unbeknown to me, had a title similar to one of the horror movies of that time. Knowing that I sometimes used 'unusual' resources, a small delegation of parents met me later, outraged that I had aired an '18 movie' in the classroom! :rotfl:

Thanks for keeping us up to date Inspector, so lovely to see you all had a lovely Christmas with Daisy at home.

She really is a star isn't she....and so are the rest of your wonderful family (including you!).
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

We didn't use the telly at school. I remember in junior school we'd have the telly wheeled in, on a tall trolley, for one lesson/week. Schools only had one telly, so it had to be booked and the caretaker had to wheel it in and away again, so not much telly was used ever.

When you get to middle age it's difficult to know which is best/worst bet..... second hand versus elderly virgin. Mmmmm......
