I just have one resolution - that my credit cards ( I have two in total - down from 5) will be a 'one way street' ie I can put money on them to lower the balance, but never spend on them, so the balance will only ever go in one direction (the right direction!)
Oh and another one - to continue budgeting and not spending more than I earn, currently if I want to spend more than I earn I have to earn that money through ebaying stuff or other inventive ways of upping my income, the idea being that my monthly outgoings including debt repayments never exceed what's coming in.
  • My resolutions are:

    - Stop using my debit card and only use cash; as it will stop be from being naughty.
    - Do as many surveys via onepoll etc as possible; this will pay for Christmas next year.
    - Save as much money as possible with a seal pot.
    - Become more aware of what makes me binge spend!

    Lots of love,

    LMC x
  • I am hoping to be debt free by 31st December 2011

    1) Shave £10 off my weekly shopping budget
    2) Try not to shop when I am stressed. I know that 2011 is going to be a stressful year with DS2's transition to SN school, and my usual habit is to shop to cheer myself up.
    3) Keep up with my sealed pot challenge.
    4) Dont keep buying more clothes for the children on Ebay - they have much more than they needs already, and even clothes for 2 years time!

Good luck to you all :)

Hey everyone, returning newbie here (it's been so long since my last visit that i had to re-register!:embarasse)

I've re-written my snowball plan and, not allowing for any unexpected outgoings, I could be debt-free by October 2011, so being realistic, my goals are:

*To be debt-free by Christmas 2011
*To complete the sealed pot challenge (so we can have a treat when we are debt-free!)
*To stick to our weekly grocery budget (and put any excess in the sealed pot ;))
*To take my lunch to work at least 4/5 days

    Good luck all

I'm working a second job from Jan to April to earn a bit of extra cash- and this will mean that my biggest debt (£12,500 loan- £203 a month for the past five years!) will be gone three months early on January 28th!!

One this has gone I'll be paying off one of my credit cards Feb/March- leaving me just 2 credit cards left.

This time three years ago this seemed unimaginable. I had my loan, 5 credit cards, a store card, a huge overdraft... all the money I was earning was going straight to debt.

Now I've been able to move out of home for good after 3 years back while still being able to afford to pay off my debts. When the loan and the next credit card is paid off I'll have the equivalent of £250 every month extra to live on.

Part of this will go on reducing my other two credit cards at a faster rate- but part will be for me. I will be able to save money if I want to- and will be able to not worry about money as much as I have done for the last few years. I'll be able to go to the pub/out with mates without feeling guilty each time I go to the bar!

I'll still be frugal with my money and benefit from everything I've learned form this site - but the worry will be gone.

By the end of 2011 I should hit my Debt Free Day - and I will be free completely. And will never be taking debt on board like I had in the past.

So 2011 in essence will be the year I get my life back, after 5 years approx. of worry and drowning debt. Cannot Wait!!!!:T

So, yeah - basically my resolution for 2011 is to be debt free and to live my life again!
    Debt Total Oct 2007 £19,750
Finally Debt Free June 17th 2013!!!

    Mine are to,

put piggy banks together for all my expenses this year ie one for tax / MOT. one for xmas savings, one for holidays etc

work out what birthdays, anniversaries , mothers day gift shopping I need to do and find nice things in the January sales. Boots is fab for toiletry gift sets .

reduce my food budget by cooking from scratch and not so many snack treats and meal plan.

reduce the number of days the dog walker does to free up some cash.

Treat myself more often ie once a quarter have a nice underwear set, get my hair cut, waxing done etc. I don't want to look like a yak anymore.

    Great thread.
