Pay off at least one CC and have the biggest smile in the world on the day I do this and stop owing that particular nothing and then do the same again
Continue to meal plan and batch cook etc
Preserve all year this time instead of just in the summer and autumn and remember how enjoyable it is and how much I enjoy it as do others

Plan present buying like this year that made life a lot simpler and stress free
    Carry on running for free

  • My aim for 2011 is to reduce my current debt of £8400 by at least 50%. I'm determined to do this by:
    • Sorting out a budgeting spreadsheet (and sticking to it!):A
    • Cutting back unneccessary spending such as meals out, lunches at work etc.
    • Selling all unwanted/unused items on Ebay
    • Using any extra money from bonuses or surplus to pay off my credit cards
I'm so fed up of being in debt and after years of struggling, 2011 is my year for sorting out my finances once and for all. Good luck to all debt-free wannabes! Have a great Christmas and New Year
    Barclaycard £3000
    Halifax loan £17,300
    Overdraft £500

  • I am new to the site, usually go on the grabbit board looking for gifts for xmas but I thought I would give this forum a try. Reading through all of the posts has inspired me to do something about our debts. They aren't massive and we can afford to pay them but it would feel so much better to just have to pay the necessary bills every month and have extra money in the bank. So my resolutions for 2011 are:-

To clear TSB Credit Card, Studio, Argos Card & Loan to my dad off by the end of June.
To hopefully clear Virgin Credit card by the end of the year.
    Stop smoking
    Lose weight
Save for my eldest son's 18th
Be more aware of what I am buying/spending...asking myself do we really need this, will we use it?
Ebay things we don't use anymore
And finally pray that my youngest son will be healthier so that I can find a job.

Good luck to everyone with their resolutions and Merry Christmas to you all. Let's hope 2011 is a great year for us all

Thank you for all of your posts, this is the first time I've managed to check in! It sounds like you are all motivated, and that makes me motivated!

At the moment my current job ends just before Christmas and I am hoping & praying that they offer me something permanent, otherwise I will be starting 2011 out of a job. Hmm, not a good start to the year!

My resolutions (some money related, some not):

    * Do a 'proper' budget. At the moment I give myself £50 a week for food, and all other misc spends - birthday presents, entertainment etc. Which in some months doesn't leave me much, so I want to put aside a set amount for birthdays, hair, food. I've been hanging around here for years and it sounds very obvious, but I haven't done it.
    * Stop spending money on rubbish. Magazines are a big one, then junk food is another, even wasting my allocated budget on this rubbish depresses me, I would rather have something to show for it. I think sometimes its a hormonal thing, I'm definitely an all or nothing girl.
    * Make more time for my friends and family!
    * Start saving for a deposit on a house. Being a singleton and going it alone means I need to save a bigger deposit, and I think I'll take on a 2nd job (assuming I manage to find a 1st job, haha!).
    * Get my health back on track
    * Try and have some mini breaks, done as cheaply as possibly

I am not in debt at the moment, but I am going away for Christmas, mostly paid for, so there might be a teeny bit on the credit card come January (0% at least!) - I know people will usually say 'don't go away', 'cancel the trip' and I probably would if I was giving the advice, but this is something I am not budging on.

2010 has been a pretty horrific year all in all and I am just pleased to have got through it alive, so I know 2011 will be better.

Wishing you all a lovely Christmas & New Year.

    xx
  • I'm a lurker rather than a regular poster.

I want to clear some of my debts on CC
Make smaller but regular payments to my Mum/Sister for the money I've borrowed from them
Find a 0% cc to move them to come april when the current one ends
Start a sealed pot to help save for Christmas
Maybe save tesco cc vouchers for christmas prezzies
Help OH clear his debts by nagging him lots
    Keep on track of money
Continue to be obsessive about checking my bank/CC and updating my spreadsheet
Carry on avoiding putting anything on my CC
    Save (!)
Find extra income - eBay, card making, extra work on A/L days
Try not to worry TOO much!
  • * I really want to have my credit card debt paid off by the end of 2011. Its currently around 6990 so its going to be pretty tough but I'm throwing everything I can at it at the moment as hoping to buy a house with my boyfriend in the Spring.
    * Get on the property ladder.
    * To call target and be happy with me...8.5lb to go:j
Debt free and busy treating myself:)

No more toiletries/make up until I've used what I've got stashed since Jan 2011, graduated October 2012. Restocked Dec 13..damn those sales

  • What a lovely thread! 2011 will be a big year for me, as I will be leaving the UK to try to push my career forward with a transfer abroad. This will mean a big pay cut, but my cost of living should go down as well, but I will need to keep to the MSE ways among a lot of distraction!
    1. Adjust, emotionally and financially, to living without a partner, at a reduced salary and in Africa!
    2. Keep my cost of living as low as possible to save as much as possible, even with the reduced salary.
    3. Be fabulous at my new job and hopefully make a difference in some peoples lives :-)
    4. Budget for some travel inside Uganda and Africa, which is expensive but I definetly want to do while I'm there!
    Keep the resolutions coming, everyone
    Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000
:DDebt free as of 1 October, 2010:D
Taking my frugal life on the road!
