  • Good Afternoon everybody

A sprinkle of snow overnight here. Its been windy & bitterly cold, I really can't bear to be outside without my gloves on. Looks like another flurry is just getting underway.

This will be a brief one folks, I am in need of a cuppa & I've just heard the kettle go ping. We have a bee keeper in the village who supplies us with honey & I am going to crack open a new jar & have some on a slice of toast.

Lamb & veg caserole with spuds & dumplings tonight from the SC - picked up some heavily reduced stewing lamb yesterday & as its my husband's favourite meat I have decided to cook it this way in case its a bit tough. I shall not partake of the lamb but will tuck into everything else.

Will be doing lots of washing tonight, then taking it to the launderette tomorrow to dry it all during my lunch break. Not very money saving I know, but I refuse to buy a tumble dryer cos I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would use it too much & clock up a huge bill. This way I know what I'm spending & I'm paying for it as I go. I'm finding that drying it on airers is causing condensation (despite a good dehumidifier) & it does get me down a bit. Also, it will all be out of the way for the weekend.

Picked up a fab purple skeepskin coat for my baby neice yesterday in a charity shop. Doesn't look like its ever been worn. Can't decide whether to post it now or add it to her Christmas pressies. Does that sound a bit mean?????

Hope to wrap a couple more pressies tonight; really must make some headway on this.

    Stay safe & snuggly x

    Hi everyone,

NPM what a relief for you, I hope everything else is fine as well.

Bitsy, I do sympathise. I remember those stages so well, it seemed as if they were never ending. I used to say to my DD (DS wasn't as bad) "I don't like you at the moment, I love you but I don't like you".

Well OS moment to report, we made our first batch of yogurt last night. It's turned out really well so if we keep it up we should save quite a bit because DH eats it on his muesli every morning.

I heard from DD in India, she's fine - just chilling by the beach, I told her we're the ones who are chilling, not her!

    just seen this on freecycle

I seem to have a glut of snow for this time of year, far too much for my kids to cope with even though they are working on it. Large van needed for collection, you may also need a spade. Please feel free to take as much as you like. Collection asap as i would like to get my car out

hi everyone - hope the snow is clearing for everyone. we had a little over night which had now turned to ice

not much happening here again :o had an appointment this which has left me feeling a bit down in the dumps. a case of a step forward, two steps back :o

blitzed ds' room when we got back. he slept on the sofa all afternoon. he went to drs with alan and he has croup again :( had it las ttime we had snow. he up a lot in the night so was shattered.

tea is going to be veggie fishfinger things :o no idea what they are called. instead of fish they have vegetable in. ds loves them usually so thought it may tempt him to have a little nibble as he has no appetite. alan will eat whatever is placed in front of him... i'll probably just find something if i get hungry.

i have some sweet pastry in the frdige that needs using but no ideas what to do with it... any ideas welcomed?

Yes they will if you keep them in an airtight tin with a lump of sugar or bread if you have no sugar and they should stay crisp.

Stopped snowing but blooming cold brrrrrr

    RANT ALERT!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I am another ranter !:(
DS's School is starting to really get to me now and if there are any A level teachers on here maybe you could give me some advice please.
Basically they are saying that they don't think he will pass his exams even though he has started his course work this week and are threatening to kick him out of sixth form  He is not the only one either, I understand that 75% of his physics class have the same letters and hassle. I thought it was a school's responsibility to teach the children and help them to get through their exams but evidently it is easier to get them off the course so that they get their glowing 99.7% pass rate in A levels even if there are only a few very bright children sitting the exam.
I heard that one of the schools in Luton got a 100% pass rate with only 1 child actually sitting the exam - So don't ever trust a school that says it has a good A level pass rate:mad:

Phew! Rant over you can come out now :o honest :D

Back home safe and sound now in Cheshire after our few days clearing out aunts house in S Cumbria. Not as much snow here and very little fallen overnight.
Made it to Mr T's this morning as our everyday stocks had gone down somewhat ( though store cupboards are full). My goodness it was busy - people queuing up for car park spaces and very grumpy !
Mr T had kindly sent me some coupons to use in the run up to Xmas - he thinks I will stay and shop with them forever but once they are used my loyalty is to my purse !!

This afternoon I made a birthday cake for my Mum ( 92 tomorrow) - hope Im like her at that age - loves a laugh and a chat and is very independent !
Quick meal of bacon and eggs tonight as DH is on his way back from dropping in aunts keys - thank goodness its all done now and I can concentrate on Xmas. Dealing with your own rubbish is bad enough but someone elses is awful.

Whatever you chose to do this evening stay warm and safe. ValB

Many thanks for posting the recipe pollys; I've saved it onto my "Recipes" memory stick - we've got soup listed on the meal plan on Saturday, so I might just give it a try, I'm sure I've got everything needed. Even managed to find vegetarian Worcester sauce, in Waitrose, recently!;)

V8mb I hope you've had a little something to eat? You won't do yourself or DH any good by not eating, although I do understand that a nasty upset can kill your appetite. (((HUG)))

Unless it has changed, and maybe some teachers could clarify this, but schools get funded on the amount of children they have at a certain date. I think it is around the end of November. After this if a child leaves, is kicked out, etc., then they get the funding anyway, and any other school who may take them have to manage without. This happened to my friends son quite a lot of years ago, which is why I am asking for anyone in education to confirm/deny my thoughts. To my mind they will take on children who have a slight chance, to get funding they decide they don't. I accept 'A' levels are totally different to GCSE's as suddenly the child has to learn to find things out for themselves rather than be taught , some manage the transition and others do not, but the timing to me is suspect.
