Who thought I'd be able to use the half a banana lying in the fridge, one of the wrinkly parsnips and some of my glut of dates to make... a cake?! my agar agar might even come in handy! http://teafactory.wordpress.com/2009/01/20/parsnip-cake-vegan-gluten-free/
Sounds delicious and very healthy, I'm off to make a small one and will report back :)

I did half using 25g plain 50g SR, 1/4tsp bicarb, 1tsp oil, 1/2 banana, small parsnip, 40g dates, tsp cinammon. It comes in at 136 calories, 11g sugar, 1g fat for 1/4 of the cake which is a satisfyingly rich and delicious slice that I am munching right now :D

I really should get on with something useful now...

Hi all, just having a breather as i decided to do a deep clean before all the Xmas decs come out,but I needed a rest.We still have only a sprinkle of snow here, enough to look pretty but not enough to cause concern, apart from the odd slippy pavement.

DH is a bit frustrated at the mo,as theyare due to start a job,he's been sat at home for nearly 2 weeks doing nothing while the customer ums and ahs over final details, yet insists the job still has to be done by a certain date  He and DS2 have just been to a golf course where a mate of DSs works-they chopped some dead trees down a while back, and asked if we wanted some logs-yes please, free wood for our woodburner! We'll have to store them for a bit,but they are dry, just need to season. We bought some a few weeks ago £75,so to get some free is great.:)

Finished making my cards, just need to write them now.Well better get mopping my kitchen floor etc.Hugs to all in need.
NPM- so glad you got to have your hair done, thats one thing sorted :)
Tru-thanks for our daily carols-doesnt seem 2 minutes since you were doing it last year

    Hi all.

More snow has fallen here - I thought it would, from the blinding headache I've been awake with all night! I just wish the damn stuff would go away now. Still, the birds have food and water out there, so they'll be OK.

Postie didn't come til 16:00 yesterday, and he brought me a big envelope full of membership paperwork to process, so I was sat doing that well into the evening, with just a quick break to eat dins (lasagne). But it's all done, and Mr LW took the resulting envelopes to put in the post to the individual members when he left for work this morning.

Dins tonight is the 2nd half of the lasagne, so I don't have to do any actual cooking today (just nuke'n'eat).

DS said yesterday he could just eat some tomato and lentil soup, so going to check I've got everything I need to make some.
Ooh, that sounds really nice; do you have a recipe you could post, pretty please?

NPM I'm glad you can get your hair done as you want; Mr LW always dyes mine for me, as I can't manage it myself any more, but it's a right palaver. The bit I hate is the waiting for the colour to develop, as I can't wear my specs during that time, and I can't see a thing without them!

Afternoon everyone. Hugs and thoughts to everyone in need of them.
We've had a little bit of snow here which is mostly gone now,but there are still plenty of lethal pavements and untreated roads around.
Schools have remained open as a result, but ours was literally freezing on Monday. I'm glad of the 8ft scarf I crocheted on Sunday as it goes right round my neck twice then hangs to my waist (brilliant when hurtling between buildings)
This morning the garden tiger looked out ofthe back door this monring at the gently falling snow, then ran to the front door to see if the weather was any better there. The she had the nerve to stare at me if to say 'this is all your fault!'
I've emptied the DW and fed it again, put through four loads of washing and have completed another crochet scarf for Kids Company. I really need to sort out the living room, as there's way too much cr"p in here that needs a new home.

    Keep warm and safe, everyone.

  • Afternoon all

    I'm back from my hols :D I had a fab time :j

It was snowing when we landed in Montreal and continued for 2 days, it was the perfect fluffy type snow. It made the whole city look very beautiful :) After that it was sunny mostly, but we did fly out in a snowstorm! We also landed in a snowstorm at Heathrow this morning! (I'm glad we managed to land though, especially after my eventful return from NZ in Jan when my plane got diverted to Bham, did not want a repeat of that!)

It was lovely to see my friend and her fiance. She is a schoolfriend who is now living in Canada after meeting a Canadian. She is getting married in Bahamas in March 2012 and has asked me to be her Maid of Honour :j.

I'll fill you all in tonight/tomorrow on what things we got up to as I've been up for about 30hours so am probably making no sense - nothing new I know! :rotfl:

    Have a good day all

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • Hello all,

Well, it's still snowing here in the Peak District; we've had an hour or two respite but that's it so far. I've never seen it like this before; even when we lived in Denmark it wasn't as bad as this.

Have done nothing today; opened one of the OH's e-mails to find a hideous b*******g from one of his officers with threats of all sorts, and I consequently had a total meltdown with tears and the lot at his best friend :o. His best friend has since called and tried to reassure me that it'll all be ok, and he's sorted as much as he can for now, but I never want to read an e-mail like that again. I'll be honest and say that I've had enough of what he does and just want him to have a nice sensible job where he's home more than he's away and where I don't worry myself sick on a regular basis.

My friends have told me that it's his problem and it's up to him to deal with it when he gets back, but I feel that it's tainted my whole day and even the e-mails I've had from him. I've not called his mum as she'll be able to tell that there's something up and I don't want her to know.

I really should do something constructive, but I don't really feel like it, and feel a bit sick. Haven't eaten much today, so should probably rectify that, but all I want to do is go to bed and pull the covers over my head. If I do that, i won't be able to sleep and being awake in the small hours of the night, alone is not my idea of fun :(

Sorry to be so down and to ramble on for so long; there are people much worse off than me I know, and I need to remember that. It's just hard sometimes.

Hope everyone is managing to keep warm and safe.

    T xx

As requested Tomato and Lentil soup.

    1 tbsp oil
    1 large onion chopped
    1 clove garlic crushed
    175g (6oz) red lentils
    397g chopped tomatoes
600ml veg stock (cube is fine)
    300ml (1/2pt milk)
    1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
    2 tbsp tomato puree

Heat the oil and fry onion and garlic for 4-5 mins. Stir in lentils, tomatoes, stock, milk, worcestershire sauce, tomato puree ans season. Bring to boil then cover and simmer gently for 45 mins, add extra liquid if needed. Blend or leave chunky if pref.

We leave chunky (saves washing up) and eat with fresh crusty bread.

Enjoy - great food for this weather.
