5 pets, out of work - need to save SOMEWHERE

Called celia Hammond, they said as above, if they do not go out they only need the basic set of vaccinations so 20 each.
They will not microchip now, they prefer to microchip when they are being neutered as it is a big needle and kinder on a kitty to microchip when they are under anaestetics...
They also told me that they can neuter from 3 month.... Now, that seems strange for me as any live creature I ever had contact with was neutered at 6 months the earliest....
Any thoughts on neutering kittens at such young age?
By the time they get their second vaccination they will be about 4.5 months (roughly, as they come from Gumtree ads, each from a different place - the "owners" could not give me exact details of when they were born....) - I was told to neuter after they are vaccinated of course.0 -
HappyMJ - thanks for that, we were typing at the same time...
The dog does not fight with the cats, she tottaly mothers them ...0 -
O yes, forgot to mention that with George (ginger boy), Zara has a very special relationship.... he really thinks she is his mum ... and is either attached to her one way or another (seen him trying to feed of her FEET LOL) or relaxed as below.... very, VERY chilled out kitty....
My old boy Tiger was Ginger, had to put him to sleep about 2 months ago, kidney cancer, he was only 10 yo
He is on my avatar photo with Zara0 -

Get the phone book out and phone all the butchers in your area. My advice would be to try to switch to entirely raw as it will be much cheaper. I get lamb necks and ribs, chicken wings, tubes of offal etc very cheap from the butcher.
You need to find a butcher that prepares the meat in-house rather than buying it ready prepared. Marrow bones are free from my butcher and I can take away sacks of food and get change from £10.
If you decide to stick to origen I always found berriewoods to be the cheapest.
Good luck in finding another job, I can't imagine how you are feeling just now but congratulations on looking out for your pets.
To tide you over you should have a look on the up your income board for mystery shopping etc. Every £10 counts just now.
The other option is to start calling in favours. What line of work do you do? Can you get any freelance work with any previous clients/contacts etc I was involved in a piece of work with a previous employer where we developed a multi-agency resource and when I moved posts I then became involved in promoting and delivering the resource on a freelance basis. If you don't ask you don't get.
Wishing you all the best xxIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Ali-t thanks...
There are not that many butchers in my area and they are all halal so really, trust me, I have already tried that and no, can not get anything at all for free or really cheap...
I do not believe (may be naive here) that I will be out of work for a long time, just really panicking now.
I work (ed) as a trainer (IT) for about 9 years but not sure I want to go back to it to be honest, will be looking at other possibilities.
Financially I should be ok till end of Jan so fingers crossed.
Thanks...0 -
That looks like a good price for Skinners...

Glad you haven't forgot about yourself!!Don't think that you would do very well on dog or cat food!!
I find Vetuk cheapest for most foods, if Zara likes / is ok with the Skinners Duck & Rice that would be best as the field & trial ones are for working dogs so no VAT they seem to be about £5 per £15kg less. I would say that if Skinners suits her it is a good quality food that you could even keep her on even when you do get a new job.:)

Catlou - thanks for the link....
Find the Skinners a bit confusing to be honest same flavour but that field and trial is confusing....
Chicken and Rise and Lamb and Rice I only see the "sensitive" so again not sure...is this the one I should be getting?
Oh.. learning curve for me0
