5 pets, out of work - need to save SOMEWHERE

I've just skimmed the thread, but please skip the Go-Cat food for the kitties.
The PAH own brand has much higher meat content and i dont think it is that pricey.
you can also try the Bozita cat stuff - They get a table spoon of it each day, and one tetra pack lasts me about 6-7 servings.
I know a lot of people who feed Skinners and give it good reviews. CSJ usually also has quite good reviews - but, ingredients on both of those depend on the flavours and whether or not you need it to be wheat/gluton/hypoallergenic or not.
if you chose a working dog flavour (no vat) the lower protein may be a better bet.0 -
gettingready, all the working bit means really is that its VAT free.. and thus should be a saving for you IF it is suitable.
I have two working dogs...in that they live on a farm and ''work''. One is a greyhound who indeed does work a bit but the other one is a giant breed whose ''job'' is too look big.
Good luck job hunting an coping till employed again.0 -
Thanks again for all the replies - one learns all life and THIS Forum and people on here are ALWAYS great help
Just wanted to share to view I came across this morning...LOL
They all look pretty ok so far, huh?
Box on the floor - the BEST cat toy as all cat slaves know it.....
And on a brigter note.. something I saw ages ago and seems to true...LOLA dog says: "You pet me, you feed me, you shelter me, you love me. You must be God."

Dogs have owners, Cats have staff
Currently trying to educate one of my cats on the logistics of Christmas Trees - he thinks it is to be climbed and pulled over, I think it's there to be decorative... me thinks this difference of opinion could last a good few days :eek:0 -

My goodness, I had 8 at one point (another long story) but basically kids would turn up at my door saying 'are you the cat lady? I've heard you rescue cats' as they held out a pregnant female or an unwanted kitten or a stray they had 'found' - now this used to aggrieve me greatly as I was a fully-fledged bimbo at the time and in no way resembled a cat lady :rotfl:but that didn't stop them turning up at the door and the cats moving in :rotfl:I was then approached by the local cats protection league to become a foster mum..... didn't do much for my image at all :rotfl:
When I moved house I said enough is enough, no more than 3 from now on....which was the amount I had when we moved...2 died (one aged 13 and one aged 21, I'd had her the longest and it broke my heart when she passed away) and OH brought me a baby boy to replace the first that died as I was gutted and then a year later I was watching TV when I heard a strange noise outside my back door (on the anniversary of my boys death, which was a bad day for me) and I opened the door onto the cold winter night to find a tiny black & white kitten screaming by my bin.
I picked him up and he was in a right state, about 6 weeks old, starving, flea-ridden, dehydrated...I called the RSPCA and they said they couldn't come out to get him for 2 days (a ploy I tell you!) and in the meantime the next day I took him to the vets to get cleaned up (he slept the night on one of my skirts, he loved that skirt for years till it was threadbare with his 'happy treading').
Vet diagnosed him with a heart murmur and didn't think he'd make it. From the vets we phoned the RSPCA and told them, I then asked if they would put him to sleep, they said, amongst other things 'we never put a healthy cat to sleep' loosely translated means, yes, we will kill him.
I phoned OH and told him, crying, he said 'whatever it costs, we'll pay it, I'll do overtime, take him home love' and I did.
I then started a campaign, to get rid of that heart murmur. Cat fishing for several hours a day (extreme exercise whereby I run around the coffee table, him chasing me and the cat toy on a long bit of string, me a shambles before he is) the best food, initially hand fed, then himself feeding, bottles of warm milk with vitamins added and more exercise...and of course an awful lot of love and cuddles and sleeping on our bed with us.
Six months later, Vet examined him with stethoscope and with a big beam on her face and tears in her eyes she said 'the murmur, its totally gone! it must have been physiological rather than physical" (meaning, he was dying and heart couldn't cope with the starvation, dehydration, freezing temperature etc) and he got a full clean bill of health.
Four years on he is incredibly handsome, fit as an athlete, and still enjoys his cat fishing game...I have never known a more appreciative cat, he shows how much he loves me every day and he has never once stepped out of the door, he runs away if he sees the front door open, he saw enough of the outside world to last him a lifetime in his first few weeks of life.
The RSPCA? I wouldn't give them the time of day and cancelled my DD donation to them after that phonecall 4 years ago.0 -

I went through something ike that with a dog that kind of came into my and my friend's life, a rottie... we managed to find a "no kill" place to take him in but he was put down as apparently he attacked a behaviourist.....
There was a thread on here about him that I started, do not know how to dig it out (the thread)... it was awful for me, my friends, my daughter and what a waste of a dog....
You made me laugh with the "bimbo" and "cat lady"...LOL Trying to imagine.... perhaps not...lol
I used to have 9 cats, my neighbour then had 11, EVERYONE on the street had cats and it was not uncommon to wake up and see some "not my own" cal on the pillow next to me which was ok as I know some of mine probably slept at one neighbours or another.... That time I lived in a house, we all had cat flaps and the whole street was cat friendly so was ok.....
I had a little dog and a rabbit too... was coming home to find a note through my door saying something like: Pls collect your dog from number so so and the rabbit from number so and so".... The dog used to jump over the fences and the rabbit used to dig under......
Had several; guinea pigs too, had 3 to start with, all females - went to the pet shop to get their food and there was that cutest jet black guine pig, owner swore it was a female too so took "her"... few weeks later I had several babies at home and a very happy black MALE with 3 "wives"...LOL

Pets, huh?
LOL :rotfl:love the guinea pig story
I won't tell you about the 2 gorgeous Russian Hamsters that a friend gave me years ago as her boyfriend bought her them and he then dumped her, they reminded her of him..but she brought cage, hammies, food, hard to say no, they were cute! (the cats loved trying to play with them LOL) - she assured me they were both male...you can guess the rest!
Yip, pets huh...:rotfl:0 -
Regarding cat litter, I've got two indoor cats and I'm also unemployed and trying to find the best way to keep costs down. I've found Classy Cat Litter from Zooplus (zooplus.co.uk) has been the best litter I've tried. It truly clumps and holds in odours. Two 15kg bags for £23, plus a rebate from Quidco.0

suburbanwifey... yeah.. can imagine LOL
Starryshell, thanks for that, will keep this in mind - when the catsan that I have ordered (8 bags at £14 for two 20litre bags) from PAT finishes.... waiting for delivery.... Ordered in bulk as hate paying delivery charges0
