on the dog food, you could try Quest, its got brilliant ingredients with little fillers and is hypoallergenic so may not upset her stomach too much, maybe have a longer switchover period??

Its about £33 a sack delivered (15kg) and my biggest boy (maybe 26kg?) eats 2 mugs a day. It also has joint suppliments in, which may help with the breed you have :)

Try garlic tablets for your GSD rather than chemical flea treatments, wont work to get rid of them but if started (1 tab a day) once they are flea free it keeps them from coming back (no adverse affect on the dog) seems to work on my 2 :)

  • gettingready - you are a breath of fresh air :)

I'm a vet nurse, and recently I have been seeing SO many unjustified euthanasias and rehoming due to loss of jobs, recession, cutbacks, Christmas (!!!!), yadayada.. I have 6 babbies myself, am now unemployed and completely skint, but my furry kiddos ain't going NOWHERE!

To see someone really try and pull the stops out and continue to look after their beautiful furry babies while sensibly saving pennies is so heartening. Reading this thread has made my night and given me a little more hope that there are still decent owners out there! (I doknow there are but recently (especially the past week) they have been nowhere to be seen and it has REALLY got me down :( ).

Re Celia Hammond - Celia is a WONDERFUL woman and I've often worked closely with the two branches during my career in London. When she calls your personal mobile on a Sunday afternoon to discuss a case you're both worried about - you know you've got a real gem :) If you can get in there to get the kitties seen to that's fab. Whenever you do go there - please always have a kind word and heartfelt thanks ready for the vets and nurses there. They work so bloody hard for minimal wages, and believe me their job there is really REALLY tough.

Keep up the good work. If there's anything I can think of to add I will reply to the thread or pm.

Morganalla, I am taking the kitties to CH in Canning Town Wednesday the 8th for their first jabs and then on the 22nd for their second.
Will be neutering/microchipping the boys at the end of Jan and the girls in Feb.

I know staff at CH, I know they work hard - I also know that when my odl boy Tiger had to be put down (10 yo, kidney cancer) and I have called them asking to rehome a couple of kittens from them - I have never heard back, nobody called me back/done home visit... I was just assumed to be unsuitable - end of.

Because of already having a dog, I did not want to take an adult cat/cats as they take long time to get used to dogs/may never get used to a dog and this woul d stress them a lot.

I bought all 4 kittens off Gumtree (from different places, to avoid possible ilness that kitties frm same litter may share) wen they were very young, about 7-8 weeks. Some people may not agree with taking kitties that young from their mums BUT: firstly they would have been sold to someone/anyone at this age anyway and at least I know what I am doing... secondly - at this age they simply did not know that as cats they are "supposed to be" scared of dogs so they were never scared of Zara, they just accepted her as part of their lives from day one.... Although I had to watch her or the first few weeks with them purely because of her size.... She loved them to bits but they were like half a kilo each (about 1lb each) and she is 38kg (7stone) of a dog so was watching out for her not stepping out on them etc.... She was mothering them from day one, "grooming" them, sleeping cuddling up with them etc etc.... BUT - few places I have contacted to try to rehome a couple of kittens were "no way" - live in a falt, have a dog so... I was dissapointed, of course but what can I do? Got my 4 now, 5 with Zara and all is good....

Going away for Xmas for few days, got Zara staying with the dogwalker and her 2 GS and the same person will be coming to see the kitties TWICE per day, morning and evening. It is only 5 days but had to make sure all is sorted before then... Dog and cats know the girl who will be looking after them so I know they saty in good hands...

Hi Gettingready, I was from an earlier post that you are near Wanstead Flats. All Goddard surgeries and most local independents will neuter for free under the Cats Protection 'C4' scheme, I had my girlies done at Oak Hill vets in South Woodford, but I know they also do it at Midland in Leyton and the Goddards in Forest Gate. You just need to tell them you want it done under C4 when you book.

Peachyprice - thanks for that, will investigate of course...

Is it an ongoing thing or a time limited offer, do you know?

Kitties are too young to be neutered now, will do that around the end of Jan...

Ah... you sosted a link, need to change my glasses LOL - thanks, will have a look :)
