I have four cats and one litter tray, they cost me £4 a week on value cat litter and tesco premium cat crunchies. All perfectly healthy.
If you live near an RSPCA vets you can register 3 animals with them and I have the other with PDSA as they only let you have one.
You will get all their medications and flea and worm stuff half price this way. The RSPCA neutering is only £20 a cat.

Pesky - if you lived in NorthWales I would run you there as I'm always back and to there.

It's the delivery charges that always hit hard when you find an online bargain that weighs quite heavy.

Tru on delivery charges.. pity you do not live nearby LOL

Chappie at £13.49 for a 15kg bag but delivery £9.95 if one buys 2 bags.....so £36.93 per month.....not worth the hassle me thinks :(

I think your maths is wrong. You'd only be using 1 bag a month to feed 500g a day.

Merlin - I have Celia hammond not too far, they offer cheap vet help for people on low/with no incomes so do not worry about that too much now, just all the other costs ..

But got some GREAT advice on here, thanks again everyone....

Ah, that sounds a bit more hopeful for the Chappie food now (and your reply made me laugh too), you sound like a strong person who is being practical and sensible and doing the best for your animals.

    I think that's wonderful! :)

Sorry to hear the bad news about your job.

The Cats Protection League often help with spaying/neutering costs, so definitely check with them.

As for the raw food, some butchers will give you scraps for free or at very little cost.

    Hi gettingready.

Really sorry to hear about you & snowyowl losing your jobs.:(

I just wanted to say I know Chappie is recommended by lots of people but tbh the ingredients are not that great really Especially after Orijen which has a really high meat content.

http://www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/products-Chappie-Dog-Food-Complete-Original_CN144004.htm click on the igredients tab.

What about something really good quality that would be a lot cheaper than Orijen have you ever tried her on Skinners either their Salmon & Rice or Duck & Rice about £20-22 for £15kg which should last you a month or one of the CSJ foods if you give them a call and explain about Zara they would recommend a food and I would try and get lots of samples off them too! ;)

    Good luck with everything.
  • A while ago I asked my vet to recommend a good dried food and she said Chappie was excellent - far superior to many of the expensive ones. And my vets sell Science Diet so normally are pushing that like mad!

I must admit I buy any old dried food for mine, Lidl, Aldi, Netto, Home Bargains, but I'm lucky, she has no gastric problems and will eat anything!
I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss, Not in the next life, I want it in this, I want it in this

Use your imagination, or you can borrow mine!
  • Hi catlou,

I noticed there were some skinners reviews amongst the chappie reviews on the link I put earlier in the thread - looks like it's a good food. :)
