Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help... My mum recently stopped claiming for Jobseekers allowance and applyed for disability allowance. However, she was denied disability allowance. At present, she is not claiming anything, and will not be claiming Jobseekers Allowance. Is there any other benefits she may be entitled for as she has no money coming in??

Do you mean ESA or DLA? Is she not fit for work? When was she given the ESA/ DLA decision?

Why 'will she not be claiming JSA'?
  • It was DLA and ESA. They have now both been stopped 2 months ago. My mother is not fit to work, but all this was denied in the application...
  • @ Mrs Manda - She wont be claiming JSA as she is not looking to work for the next year

Is she not looking to work for the next year because she is not fit for work, or through choice? Has her GP/ specialist stated she will not be fit for work for a year?

  • Mortgage is all paid for. No help with Council Tax, I am paying that. She has mild mental health issues and I am all out of ideas what to do or what she can claim for. Our doctor is aware of this and no advise given. Doctor had been signing her off 3 months at a time.

Could she work part time? For those with mild MH issues, the right job can be more therapeutic than staying at home.

  • I have suggested that to my mum. She is agoraphibic and is not a 'peoples person', and never goes out... I dont think she would cope with even that.... But yes DMG - I agree with you otherwise

Has she been referred for counselling/ CBT?

How old is she, and is she single?
