Hi everyone,
One of my intermittent posts to sya happy birthday to Thrifty.
Bramble well done on the job.
I've had a horrible infection in a tooth and ended up in the dentist's chair for 45 minutes this morning. I thought he was drilling for oil. I've got two more appointments scheduled for root canal work befor Christmas so I'm not a happy bunny.
DD is in India (Kerala) for her final fling before she restarts work next week. It will have been 12 months since she left on her trip around parts of asia and Australia NZ etc, although she has been home since June in that time she's been to New York, France and Iceland and now India. I don't know where she gets the wanderlust from.
Anyway I have a bit of OS to report. We've finished the dining room and OH has put up my sewing corner and brought down all my patchwork stuff from the loft. I'd forgotten I had so much fabric and I had to wash it all, i'm still ironing. I can't wait to get started again though. I've got quite a bit of Christmassy fabric so I'll try to do something with those.
Shopping from the freezer and cupboards as much as possible now, I need to keep costs down as much as possible.0 -
Thanks Sarah and Pink
Have any of the rest of you on Old Style been doing this, not just for Christmas but birthdays etc.
I'm chuffed to bits:D0 -
Ahhh how lucky! And what better a simple christmas pressie than some gorgeous perfume?!
Dining tables and chairs seem to really get around my family. The one in my parents' house was given to my nan by her friend in the late '80s, it then went to my parents in their first home, then to an aunt, then to another aunt in her new house, and then back to my parents a few years ago! Same thing happens with cutlery and plates, which all eventually end up in the crockery grave yard that is my Nan's houseLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

It's funny you should mention cutlery. I have a potato masher that was a wedding present to my Gran so I would imagine it was made in the late forties. I would be devastated if it ever broke.
Come on then folks tales of the best, well travelled hand me downs.0 -
Afternoon peeps :snow_laug
its bloomin terrible here today, i`m so glad that its my day off.
I was stranded at w*rk last night and had to walk quite a way home in thigh deep snow, i got home at 1am and looked like a snowman as the snow was hurtling sideways towards me as i walked. I also managed to walk into a parked/abandoned car as i couldn`t see where i was going and didn`t expect a car to be thereNeed some mini wipers for my specs
This morning has been spent clearing snow, its waist deep in the garden and pretty amazing, DH set off walking to w*rk and had to turn back. He ended up going back to bed for a while as he felt a bit ropey. I`m off for a nap in a mo as i can hardly keep my eyes open now that i`ve thawed out.
Apparently all the local shops have run out of supplies - only to be expected really as deliveries can`t get through. We are well stocked up so providing DH doesn`t keep up his cuppa habit every half an hour we should be ok for a while.
Thriftlady - Happy Birthday :bdaycake:
((((HUGS)))) to everyone else! I`m off for a nap as my tired befuddled brain is crying our for sleep.
Keep safe and warm peeps.

Well travelled hand-me-downs?
I'm sat on the sette tht my father's parents were given as a wedding present in 1932. My parents used it until we moved to the UK, then my sister used it for about 12 years, and then we got it.
It's oak and leather, and we also have the matching coffee table, desk and chair to go with the desk, all of which have travelled the same path. In addition, we also have my grandad's longcase clock, which my dad thought was from the 1900's but has since been estimated to be from around 1700
I'm still using spatulas my MIL was given by her mother when they got married in the 60s and they were 20 years old then, and I have just started using the Singer sewing machine that OHs grandad bought in 1950
Finally, I very often use my mum's 'Cookbook for Young Ladies' (it's a Danish title) which she inherited from her mum, who inherited it from her mum. I've already been promised it in her will! :rotfl:
I love old stuff and although the furniture may not be as comfortable as modern stuff, it just feels right to use it, as I have many happy memories of my grandparents utilising it when I was very little. My living room looks like a Danish 1930s front room!

Afternoon folks
It's nearly dark here as the sky's thick with snow (& it's coming down again), bitterly cold - had the heating on all day, not hot just warm, but we're all cold!
Comfort food for tea - sausages, mash, sprouts, rice pud or bananas & custard! Went into town this morning, traffic/snow not too bad initially, but when I came home it was bad & had to detour all round the village as one way the traffic was stopped cos of a bus that couldn't get up the hill. The other hill I tried to get up but slid back, so went the long way - took 45 mins to get home, usually 10!! Glad I bought a few extras, cos I really hope I don't have to go out tomorrow!
Hot water bottles & cocoa after tea/in bed & some stitching or making Christmas cards.
Keep warm everyone - hope you're all ok!

Hi Guys!
I'm still in bed as in a lot of pain etc, so thought I'd say hello:D
DD & OH have braved the cold as we need a few supplies and have walked to the local shop. Think they have stopped for a coffee as they've been ages.
School is shut today and probably again tomorrow, which means more delays on DD's mocks!...typical....hopefully she can re-schedule her mocks she has missed if we're away??...we will see.
Leftover chilli again for lunch and dinner tonight is toad in hole, roasties, sprouts and carrots...yummy!! DD is making some more cupcakes whilst the oven is on. Had a fried egg sarnie for breakfast which I never usually have but fancied it.
I have updated my Quicken, made 2 calls that needed to be done and cleared through a few clothes that I need to charity bag. OH has done most of the ironing and the DW, WM and TD have been on.
Anyway, hope everyone is well. Hugs to all.
