Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 1st December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning my lovelies
Well the countdown starts today. I think Tru will be submitting her daily carols
but I thought why not add a few Youtube into the mix. So here's something to break us in gently
It's on an album I have called Classic Christmas and I love this

Been awake since 4am with DD who is currently doing her best to wake everybody up being being a noisy b*gger
Plans for today are freezing my butt off at Forest School with DS this morning and hopefully having a nap this afternoon
Not very OS so apologies for that.
Tea is left overs of cajun chicken from last night, have tap class so need something quick and easy.
No more snow (now there's a suprise
) but max temp today is 0 degrees so am pretty sure everything will stay frozen rock solid
Hugs, spoons and high fives. Hope those of you with snow stay safe and warm. Have a good day OS or not.
Edited to add:
Thriftlady - Happy Birthday to you
I know you don't really post on the Daily anymore but here's some birthday wishes for you anyway

Morning :santa2:
First things first - I opened my advent calendar and found a choccy cracker
Happy Birthday Thriftlady :bdaycake:
Today I'm going to empty the kitchen, take a wire brush to the walls and pray that it gets the paint off. I'm going to have to disconnect the gas hob, so I've bought an electric kettle (my usual kettle is a whistler). I also need to move a light switch.
If I've got time, I'll do a bit of housework - though no dusting, I can't see the point for the next few days
I've got everything printed and cut for my cards, I just need to stick it all on. I'm sure I'll find time to do that today :rotfl:
Ever wish there was two of you?Bulletproof0 -
Morning early risers and all who follow.

Anyone else having trouble getting their teenage boys to wrap up? The younger on will but my older one - thinks its ok to wear pumps:eek:. The snow is ankle deep:eek:.
Please take care everyone stay safe and warm.

Morning all ,Brrrr its another chilly one this morning. Another 6" dollop of snow during the night so it will be another day indoors as I stay in when its bad weather. No point in breaking something ,especially just before Christmas.Hospitals have enough to do without my cluttering up their limited available beds.Luckily I always have enough in store to cover my needs.Plenty of bread and milk in the freezer.I will probably write my Christmas cards out today so that will be another job out of the way.Still suffering with a nasty head cold I am hoping it will go before the week-end.
If you have to go out then do wrap up warm as it is bitterly cold.DGS was put up in an hotel last night at Hatfield by his boss as the trains weren't very good.Still a good chance to watch some catch up t.v.
I'm off to make a hot drink so do take care everyone
JackieO xx

Morning all
No snow, no ice here, just dry & cold, I can cope with that, lol.
DW has finished, breakfast eaten, fish fed, hubby dropped at the station with his pack up, I'm taking LO jerk chicken & rice.
I've finished the cream scarf & started the light brown one, didn't get much done last night, hubby was feeling very affectionate, don't know what we were celebrating, but I'm not complaining!
Beef casserole for tea tonight, it's simmering in the slow cooker, the house should smell lovely by the time we get home.
Keep safe & warm everyone.
Hugs Hester
PS thanks for the carol Tru.

Been up since silly o clock making sure I got a Sainsburys xmas delivery slot and a slot from online farm shop for the meat;)
Snowing like mad in Sheffield again.....we must live in same part Sistercas as over a foot here too:p. Had to walk from bottom end of Crookes to RHH in a blizzard yesterday.
Luckily I have done my 15 hours for the week so no walking to work and back again today like I did yesterday.....my legs were killing me last night after all that snow walking:eek:
Doubt very much if DSs school will be open so another day off for him. OH is going to walk into work and see if he can do anything useful. He can`t get out in van to do anything.....no buses running or anything:o.....means no pay if he doesnt work though which isnt good.
Still wondering if anyone will make it to the wedding apart from local friends
Happy birthday Thriftlady:T0 -
Good Morning Everyone
Can;t believe it's carol time again - thanks Tru!
Happy birthday to Thriftlady too - and come back and post here sometime!!
Don't think we've had more than an extra sprinking overnight, but everything looks frozen solid, so not driving anywhere today. DH and friend have set off on a trip which goes to Salisbury and home again via Westbury! Fingers crossed they have no problems.
Fitz managed to cut his paw on a flint yesterday so only gentle exercise for him I think.
Need to catch up on course work I missed when my sister was here last week, and other paperwork as well today.
Lunch will be soup and a sandwich, supper likely to be easy as it's just me - beans on toast or something! Have evening meeting which I'm not looking forward to, but walking will be better than driving and better exercise for me.
I hope you all keep well and warm today. Do be careful.Resolution:

Morning all - woke to a blizzard this morning - and have had more snow overnight. Now I love the white stuff, but I could do with the boys going to school so I can get a bit of paid work done and dusted. They're shrieking around the place getting madly excited but then will only dress in summer type clothes - so no going anywhere for them!
Happy birthday ThriftLady :bdaycake:
Got the christmas decorations out last night to find the advent calendars for the children - luckily they've missed them so far this morning. Just waiting to see if the school is open or not. OS - made mini christmas cakes yesterday (cupcake sized) kept the house warm as I had the oven on. Then had the cold beef for tea. Tonight will be something like pie from the freezer. Seeing loads of people driving far too fast past the window - PLEASE SLOW DOWN.
Take care everyone. :snow_laugMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Hi all :santa2: if you dont mind thought i would try finding this thread each day and posting. You seem a friendly positive bunch and my sty could do with the positive input
Today I hope to sort through paperwork (find those tesco vouchers!) and write a very os list on what to buy everyone for xmas. Most probably mystery soup for dinner, the mystery being what I can find to put in it!:rotfl: Keep warm everyone

Morning All
Welcome huxley :santa2:
Happy Birthday thriftlady:bdaycake:
Cold here this morning but thankfully we had no more snow last night. I hope it clears by next week or I will have to try to rebook my scan I really hope not because I have had to wait 3 months for it.:(
Didn't manage to get FIL anything yesterday - he is so hard to buy forbut at least it is the last present to get so we are off to Bletchley today to see if we can spot anything there.
Plus we bought some Umbro joggers in sports direct which need to be changed because the sizing is wrong - Got DH his usual medium but they don't even fit DS who is a small
Tru I got a Christmas tree in mine :rudolf: but the chocolate is horrid I think I will grab a cadbury one when they are reduced in a couple of days time.
Well I am off for my third coffee and to dive in the freezer for something to do for dinner.
Keep warm and Safe Everyone xBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
