No Buying Toiletries in December Challenge

I wish I could do eyeliner too. The best I can do is a line in pencil, smudged slightly with a brush to disguise the unevenness. I'm cr*p with eye shadow too, worry too much it's accentuating the lines so tend to stick mostly to a neutral eye, although I do have a gorgeous turquoise eye shadow which I use close to the lashline for a bit of spark occasionally
I would love a professional to do me a contemporary-style make up.
I know what you mean, but I just need someone to stand over me and go 'No, not like that, like this!' Every time I get it wrong. Please call me 'Pickle'

I tried Rimmel and it burnt my eyes (was the mascara), I tried Clinique (hypo-allergenic) and my skin came out in a rash and the allergy clinic and dermatologist told me NEVER to use it again. THEY tested me for everything and as I said Estee Lauder was the only one OR would you prefer it if I never wore make-up
Blimey, Dragon, that's a SERIOUS allergy!

My favourite make up artist online is Lisa Eldridge - just google her. She is fantastic. She also details her favourite products and even though she is in a design position for No 7 - she doesn't flog or boast about their products. And other brands favoured outnumber No 7. And I have no affiliation with her - I found her site by accident.
I so want to ask Jaxx what's the Bobbi Brown make up that suits everybody. I suspect a blush or bronzer or a lipgloss? I've got a couple of her books from the library and there is a definitive Bobbi Brown look.
Finding it hard to use up:
Avon Anew eyelift. The lid is fiddly. The product is ok. I look forward to buy the Liz Earle eye serum to wear at night again when used this up. Can't complain really though as I picked it up (sealed) in a charity shop for a quid or two.

It was that which upset so many people, and your unpleasant reference to people being in debt - these forums have a policy of being polite to moneysavers and respectful of those who have got themselves into problems with debt - the assumption being that, by being here in the first place, they have faced up to their problems and are dealing with them. Many of us on this thread have posted on the DFW boards for some time, and are very protective of those who are dealing with their problems in a positive and pro-active way - so when we see an apparent troll attack, we react accordingly. Had you spent as much time on the DFW boards as we have, you would understand why!
Sorry if my first post came across as harsh/unpleasent but its just I occasionally look through this thread, and it confuses me because I see people who say they are MoneySaving or are in debt (some signatures say they are £50,000 in debt ) and then in their post it talks about Using Up (UU) a Clinique eye cream or Bobbi Brown eyeshadow and the two just do not add up! I suppose its because I am comparing it to my family/friends who just do not buy these brands because they know they cant afford it.0 -
Tara - i think £90 worth of stuff for £25 is allowed - thats an incredible bargain (assuming that its all lovely and you love it all !!!)
well done everyone - everyone is doing brilliantly !! I need to get myself to TK Maximus tomorrow or in the next few days, Ive not got much shampoo left, and i think Im right in remembering its there that I should be able ot get some "good" ones for cheap???
Aw thanks trudiI tried it once in HOF and loved it, have always wanted to buy some but could never justify the price.
Tara - would that be a set from QVC. If so i bought two as i always wanted to try the marine cream and it was such a good price. So far i love the marine cream but not tried anything else yet.
No, I got it online, and it was cheaper than the QVC offer a while ago that I nearly succumbed to. I won't post the link unless you want me to.JustWonderful wrote: »Sorry if my first post came across as harsh/unpleasent but its just I occasionally look through this thread, and it confuses me because I see people who say they are MoneySaving or are in debt (some signatures say they are £50,000 in debt ) and then in their post it talks about Using Up (UU) a Clinique eye cream or Bobbi Brown eyeshadow and the two just do not add up! To add to what others have said, some on here are trying to use up stuff which was bought before they discovered the joys of moneysaving. We try to use, eBay or gift them to ensure that they are not wasted iyswim.
As for me, while I was never in debt, I used to waste money paying full price for things, but not any more since I joined MSE! Hence my savings have rocketed in the last 4 years.
I too am impressed by the DFWs on this site, I think that their determination to repay their debts is amazing.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Have you ever considered that such things may have contributed to a person being in debt in the first place?
or the fact it could have been recieved as a gift?
and once again (in bold in case you miss it) money saving doesn't have to be about only using the cheapest value brands, it's about saving money by firstly using the things you've got, in doing so finding out what works for you and then sticking with those brands but buying them in a money saving way - glitches, boots points, special offers, gifts etc*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
sorry being thick(again!) whats a DFWs??????
I think some of the more expensive brands can work out cheaper than the so called cheap ones.I buy a range of products including stuff from clarins, clinique and YSL but always buy either from an online site(their own when there are offers)or at bonus time and it can work out much cheaper .I tend to stick to what I know will suit me now as there is soooo much stuff around(unlike when i was young when it was Rimmel or Max factor plus ponds cold cream to take it all off(ahhh the good old days!!!)
I joined (yet )another loyalty scheme last night when we took the family out for a meal...points/offers on future meals,DH asked if there were any schemes i was not now a member of?He calls me the coupon queen as I hardly ever pay full price for anything so we end up with higer quality goods at lower prices:):):):):):):):):):)
think DH was shocked in Lush at prices being half the price he paid a few days earlier.
on our trip to Stratford I saw a cardi in East which I liked but bought this week for half the price:):)and we saw a coffee table we both loved at LA but I said we are not buying it now(esp as you have to wait a few weeks to get them anyway)and so bought it this week online again half price and with cash back on quidco:):):):)
just working out the best deal on a hotel room to take DS3 back to uni in new year as last time we went through last min but Macdonalds refused to give me loyalty points:(:(...BUT did get the book of coupons so can have an upgrade and free wine:):):)
think this money saving lark can be a full time job!!
sorry to ramble off toiletries:rotfl::rotfl:0
