  • I've had a UU of Champneys Perfect Sleep Soothing Body Butter 50 ml. WIBA? Yes to Champneys BBs but not this particular variety as it smelt of lavender which is ok but not a favourite fragrance. I have one other 50 ml of Champneys BB and so will move on to that next as it won't take long to UU and I've had some BBs for Xmas and so need to make room for them!

I've succumbed to the FCUK offer with gwp but my order isn't due to arrive in store until January and so I'll count it with the January "ins". In my defence I've resisted more than I've given in to, namely Boots half price sale, Champneys reduced items in Sainsbury's, stocking up on shampoo using £2 off coupons, hair dye on offer in Lloyds Chemist ;).

Wow - what voluntary work do you do? It must be fun!

Also, I wish you were here to show me how to use eyeliner: I'm STILL useless, although that might not be a bad things as I have teeny tiny eyes anyway, so they couldn't take a whole lot of it. :rotfl:

I'd love to come round and show you chick, but will some Lisa Eldridge videos do instead? There are a few techniques on this page.

    http://www.lisaeldridge.com/video/12861/smoky-winged-eyeliner/

One thing I have realised is that most women are too hard on themselves regarding eyeliner. No professional make up artists ever just sweep it on in one perfect line, but we all expect to be able to!

My best tip is to start in the middle where it won't matter if your aim is a little bit off, then draw out to the outer corner, then draw from the inner corner to where you started. then even it up or smudge it to make it look even.

If your eyelids are anything less than perfectly taut then a perfect line isn't ideal anyway. A smudgy soft line won't highlight texture imperfections so much..

An eyeliner brush and eyeshadow is another easier option. (I like Bare Escentuals liner brush)

Tightlining - where you line your eyes from below the lashes instead of above them is easier for some people too. you just find the right place (Aim for just under your lashes)and do a windscreen wiper motion with your pencil from side to side.

This video shows the place and a slightly different technique from about 1:18 I just hold my eye in position and windscreen wiper from side to side with a pencil - it's a good clear demo though.

you people do make me wonder- I couldnt care less if you shopped in Superdrug,Boots or Debenhams for your make up- it makes absolutely no difference. Yes I do work for Superdrug, And it is because I work for them that I realised how expensive make up is (Being a man, make up was not something I thought of before working there).

Certain products, such as YSL touche eclat cannot be replicated, fair enough, but this IS a forum for moneysaving, so we should surely be promoting good value brands.

Good value isn't the same as cheap.

As I said earlier, I'd rather buy 3 £14 great mascaras a year than 12 dud ones all under a tenner.

It's nice of you not to mind where us people spend the money we earned though. :rotfl:

I was just taking it from someone who replied to my earlier, much hated, post about YSL being the bees knees and her trying something else which just would not do.

Apologies, and maybe the earlier poster should try the Aldi version.

    I have.

I found the texture settled in my fine lines, the coverage wasn't as good as I'm used to, or as even and the colours weren't as invisible on me as TE is.

But even though I've tested it, I wouldn't dream of telling other people what they should do with their money.

They work amazingly well with soap too. Much nicer than just using a bar of soap and trying to make suds in the shower. With soap they give a really rich creamy lather and very economical, a couple of swipes on the bar of soap makes loads of lather.

I never knew that...but yeah i can see how it would work in the same way, just never thought to try it.I think I'm safe for now though as I've still got a few S&G shower gels to use up :)
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*

I wish I could do eyeliner too. The best I can do is a line in pencil, smudged slightly with a brush to disguise the unevenness. I'm cr*p with eye shadow too, worry too much it's accentuating the lines so tend to stick mostly to a neutral eye, although I do have a gorgeous turquoise eye shadow which I use close to the lashline for a bit of spark occasionally

I would love a professional to do me a contemporary-style make up.

Cosmetic Counter Dragon Ladies are much maligned, but they can come in useful. If there's a Bobbi Brown or MAC counter near you they can teach you. Selling is the dull part of their job - it's doing make up that interests them. If they are at all pushy, ask them to write down the names of everything they use because Hubby is treating you for your birthday. (They would do that anyway, but it shuts them up usually.)

You don't get that in Superdrug! :rotfl: ;):D

I know what you mean, but I just need someone to stand over me and go 'No, not like that, like this!' Every time I get it wrong. :p

Rock up to a MAC counter and ask for the fiercest gayest MUA they've got! ;):D He'll sort you out! :)

My favourite make up artist online is Lisa Eldridge - just google her. She is fantastic. She also details her favourite products and even though she is in a design position for No 7 - she doesn't flog or boast about their products. And other brands favoured outnumber No 7. And I have no affiliation with her - I found her site by accident.

I so want to ask Jaxx what's the Bobbi Brown make up that suits everybody. I suspect a blush or bronzer or a lipgloss? I've got a couple of her books from the library and there is a definitive Bobbi Brown look.

Finding it hard to use up:
Avon Anew eyelift. The lid is fiddly. The product is ok. I look forward to buy the Liz Earle eye serum to wear at night again when used this up. Can't complain really though as I picked it up (sealed) in a charity shop for a quid or two.

    Nighty all.

I love Lisa Eldridge! I spend ages on her site. :o:D

There is a definitive Bobbi Brown look. I really like the style of make up, the fact that it's relatively quick and easy, and that I've never made anybody look bad by doing it.

The Back Up Bobbi Brown I usually take is Gel Eyeliner. (if I've got one of the neutral browns or plums, black and a pop colour like Ivy then I can make up anybody.) Pot Rouge is another universal. Old / young, black /white, dry skin / oily skin cool / neutral / warm...it just works. I've got Powder Pink, Pink Truffle and Pale Pink. They all work on me and one of them will work on whoever I'm doing. I also take a basic eyeshadow palette of a light colour, a mid brown or taupe and a darker brown or taupe, They are far from exciting, but they are failsafe. Navajo Cement and Mink or Bone Sable and Rich Brown, or Ivory Flint and Mahogany...

Even when I do teenage mums it's a look I like to teach them for looking sophisticated and fresh - even though we have a lot more fun doing multi coloured rainbow looks with other brands.

Oh dear, :o I am sorry for banging on so long! :o:D

Sorry if my first post came across as harsh/unpleasent but its just I occasionally look through this thread, and it confuses me because I see people who say they are MoneySaving or are in debt (some signatures say they are £50,000 in debt ) and then in their post it talks about Using Up (UU) a Clinique eye cream or Bobbi Brown eyeshadow and the two just do not add up! I suppose its because I am comparing it to my family/friends who just do not buy these brands because they know they cant afford it.

Your still speaking from a position of ignorance and assumption.

Didn't you read any of our responses?

I'll break it down for you:

People can be in debt for many reasons wholly unconnected to make up. ;)

People can have cosmetics in their possession which in no way contributed to their debt.

People can have cosmetics in their possession that they didn't pay for

People can have cosmetics in their possession that they paid for before the debt existed.

People can have cosmetics in their possession that they paid for before they had their epiphany about the debt - usually known on here as a light bulb moment.

    Please explain.

What is your problem with people using up what they already have rather than buying more?
