Yes I do work for Superdrug, And it is because I work for them that I realised how expensive make up is (Being a man, make up was not something I thought of before working there).
Certain products, such as YSL touche eclat cannot be replicated, fair enough, but this IS a forum for moneysaving, so we should surely be promoting good value brands.
Please don't think me rude as I've only just joined this discussion but i beg to differ on the opinion that touche eclat cannot be replicated. I used this for about 5 years and we all know how much it costs. I then discovered Aldi's version and i cannot tell the difference other than it is about £15 cheaper. I do love my expensive toiletries and will be joining this challenge from January 1st but i'm all for making savings if the quality is not comprised.0 -

I was in a Molton Brown outlet and bought their version for £4 and it's very good. Admittedly, I've only evee used a YSL one when using a friend's, but I can't imagine that it can be much better than that.
I love a bargain!Please call me 'Pickle'

I was just taking it from someone who replied to my earlier, much hated, post about YSL being the bees knees and her trying something else which just would not do.
Apologies, and maybe the earlier poster should try the Aldi version.0 -
I have been sooooo bad!!! I bought an Elemis set online, £90 worth of stuff for £25 (inc 30ml Marine Cream). I've always wanted to try it but it's sooo expensive. I am a bad girl! Right that's it, when I get back to my house after New Year I am gathering everything together and writing a list of it all to shame myself into not buying any more!
Tara - would that be a set from QVC. If so i bought two as i always wanted to try the marine cream and it was such a good price. So far i love the marine cream but not tried anything else yet.
I also gave in on beauty day on QVC and bought far too much L'Occitane stuff. I need to join this challenge from Jan 1st!!!
I will have to list eveything i have and also see if there is anything i can sell.0 -

If I know something works I stick with it unless several people have rave reviews about something I tend to stick with what I know works, otherwise I end up buying all sorts of other products which end up being thrown away because they don't work as well therefore costing me more money! I could go to the pound shop and buy a day cream but I know that The bodyshop vitamin e works well for me, and I use the illuminating version so I'm actually saving money not using my seperate make up base every day. At £10 it's much more expensive than something 'value' but cheaper than some of the designer and more upmarket brands. I'm pretty sure I've thrown away more than £10's worth of half/unused day creams that either irritated my skin or didn't suit me looking for something 'cheaper'. I either buy it when I can get a discount instore or there is a glitch online, it's rare I pay full price and in fact (quite shamefully) in the past I've been known to go in and get samples if I've run out to see me through a couple of days.
I used Toni & Guy shampoo because it's the best for my hair, again hardwon experience, I'm currently using up some pantene for curly hair (bought because it was on special offer 2 for £5 - from superdrug oddly enough- and a value sized 500ml pack) and use it alternate washes because it makes my scalp flakey with continued use, will I buy it again because it's cheaper? no because it doesn't work as well and neither do the other budget brands on my very thick frizzy curly hair. I buy Toni & Guy because it works, I buy it when its on offer, recently used the £2 off vouchers boots were doing to stock up, and I stock up when their 3 for £10 offer is on.
I love S&G but do I buy it full price? very rare. I wait for glitches or special offers (3 for 2), the sales or recieve it as gifts at christmas and birthdays
Money saving enough for you?
The beauty industry are trying to sell us the newest thing to make us look younger and beautiful and, for me, this thread is about learning to ignore the hype and super clever marketing and stick to what I know works, but if I do what to try something new I can, I'll try to get a sample first and if I like it then I'll buy it but I want to work on using up what I've got already so that I'm not ending up with pots of face cream, make up, hair products all opened at once....
Being money saving isn't all about using the cheapest budget value brand just because it's cheap, for me it's about looking for ways to make my money go further.*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
I'm with others here I have to be careful what I use on my skin, I have a VERY fatal nut allergy and this affects my skin as well, I can use Simple skin care (not the Moisturiser though) BUT the only make-up I can use without my skin burning is Estee Lauder, now this isn't cheap but what is better using pricey make-up OR ending up in hospital with anaphylaxis and burns?
I tried Rimmel and it burnt my eyes (was the mascara), I tried Clinique (hypo-allergenic) and my skin came out in a rash and the allergy clinic and dermatologist told me NEVER to use it again. THEY tested me for everything and as I said Estee Lauder was the only one OR would you prefer it if I never wore make-up :mad:Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

Your point about it being worth trying cheaper brands would have been dealt with a lot more gently had your post not been so rude and abusive. It was that which upset so many people, and your unpleasant reference to people being in debt - these forums have a policy of being polite to moneysavers and respectful of those who have got themselves into problems with debt - the assumption being that, by being here in the first place, they have faced up to their problems and are dealing with them. Many of us on this thread have posted on the DFW boards for some time, and are very protective of those who are dealing with their problems in a positive and pro-active way - so when we see an apparent troll attack, we react accordingly. I tend to stick on Sure for Women but I remember using Mum roll on when younger (does anyone know if you can still get that?!)

Also, I wish you were here to show me how to use eyeliner: I'm STILL useless, although that might not be a bad things as I have teeny tiny eyes anyway, so they couldn't take a whole lot of it. :rotfl:
I wish I could do eyeliner too. The best I can do is a line in pencil, smudged slightly with a brush to disguise the unevenness. I'm cr*p with eye shadow too, worry too much it's accentuating the lines so tend to stick mostly to a neutral eye, although I do have a gorgeous turquoise eye shadow which I use close to the lashline for a bit of spark occasionally
I would love a professional to do me a contemporary-style make up.0
