After being told my package was going to increase from 14.99 to 19.99 , Being told by Indian call center pay up or cancel, I have now got a letter from AOL Headed " We're Sorry" "due to a data error" Now "Your monthly package fee will only increase in line with Governments new rate of VAT to 20%"
Now you have to ask yourself is this about turn due to Complaints , or people Canceling, or just a data error !
but now I don't need to move as until now I always been happy with AOL service, But I do feel sorry for those that cancelled straight away , I was going to wait until after the Xmas hols to see what the other providers did about the VAT
Hope you all get the same Letter, If not why not?
Tried to post scan of letter but site will not let me0 -
As an aside to the increases, mine is due to go up, but friend a few miles away is NOT going up (from a lower figure than my £14.99)
If the Irishman I spoke to today to try and get a MAC code is correct in what he says, it is due to my local exchange NOT being unbundled (for AOL). Having checked at SamKnows that does appear to be a difference between our two exchanges.
I'm waiting to see if BE will be any better - it should be if their blurb is true (and they are unbundled on my local exchange).0 -
I too had the same email.I emailed them requesting mac code and received 3 acknowledgement emails on 3 consecutive days! I then received this today:

Original Message Follows:
So I have sent them a snotty enail back saying that they are changing the terms of my original agreement and that my whole point of emailing was to cancel the contract without penalty due to their changing the contract!i shall keep you informed of proceedings!0 -
I spoke with AOL Cancellations (got sub-continental call centre to put me straight through to Ireland) on Wed 15/12 evening; gist I want either a MAC code or a better deal than the emailed notification of hike from 14.99 to 19.99. I'm on a small rural BT exchange, a long way from becoming unbundled; so very little choice available.
Sounds like there are deals being brewed for January; e.g. I was offered same as now unlimited broadband at 14.99 / month but they would add in unlimited telephone calls as well. Such deal(s) not released yet and may vary, I have to contact the named individual in Ireland at start of January to initiate - though the rep did say AOL would honour the deal mentioned above if I wanted it in January. 12 month contract.
So get on their case, don't just accept price hike.0 -
I have just realise that AOL have put up my braodband from 9.99 to 10.98 but I have not been informed about this at all..I just checked my emails. I am not in contract so know I can get broadband chaper from O2(I am a customer) so thinking I am going to move.
I have found out that apparently its because they insisted when I took it out that I paid on my credit card and now they are charging me 99p a month for the previlage ! They say I dont get charged this if I change to direct debit. Can I just check they if I do this they wont consider it that I have taken out a new contract as I am not in contract. Still may change to O2.
Does anyone have a cheap number to ring AOL so I can get my mac code ?
Thanks in advance"The time is always right to do what is right"0 -
Hi All, aol sent my mac code by email.I called them after I received the above email(from my previous post)and he said that I would not have to pay a penalty. So, I have switched to plusnet!I am expecting aol to try and charge me for breaking the contract but i shall explain what the man on the phone said and tell them it is their tough luck!0

AOL's FAQs say they have 2 price points. £14.99 for most people and £19.99 for people on small exchanges which haven't been unbundled.
I complained about my subscription going up by £5 and the imposition of credit card fees. I just got the usual e-mail run around so decided to go to the top and contacted Dido Harding who is CEO of TalkTalk. She kicked it over to her AOL Complaints Management Team who repeated the party line. So it didn't get me anywhere and AOL's customer retention policy is obviously Take It or Leave It.
If you want to contact Dido Harding she is at:
dido.harding@talktalkgroup.com
Dido.Harding@talktalkplc.com
Good Luck0 -
