So change to someone else - no point paying top dollar for that slow service.I was beginning to think that I was the only one with AOL who got this email, I am a long term customer, been with them almost 10 years have been paying £14.99 now told it will be £19.99, not at all happy, still have about 7months of an 18month contract to run.
I would not mind so much if I got a good service but the best I get is about 2Mb and in the evenings it's just so slow.
We are on a small exchange with no LLU so we don't have much choice of providers. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
As a thought.
A friend of mine has been in hospital now for 8 weeks after a very bad (and second) stroke. She is on AOL and been looking to get out for a while, but as she is physically not able to do anything about it (she still has very few motor skills back and can not speak) what will be her rights when she is finally well enough to be released from hospital to action about this......Signaller, author, father, carer.0 -

Not sure if you read my post fullystill have about 7months of an 18month contract to run.
My gripe is with Aol increasing the cost by 33 1/3% in the middle of a contract!0 -

This is the crux of the whole thing. Like me you are in a contract, can AOL just up their price when you agreed on a price for 18 months? It isn't like a SKY Tv contract because they state that there monthly rates can increase. A price hike is one thing but breaking an agreement is another.0 -
I would say AOL is trying to break its contract with you, you agreed a monthly payment for a fixed term, even if you swicthed to Plusnet it would only be £17.99 and you don't need to any contract, so you could leave at anytime.0

I received the email announcing a 50% Approx) increase in my pay plan from £12.99 to £19.99. I have been a member since 2001 but just renewed my contract last July after complaining about the service. The gentleman, in Ireland who arranged the deal can no longer be contacted by phone or email. I sent an email to the customer services and 5 days later received a non descript reply blaming the January VAT rise. Spoke to Customer Services yesterday and was advised that "the rise cannot go ahead, it is not justified and we are unable to find out specifically who has authorised it" end of quote. I was then advised to check my emails as I should receive an appropriate message clarifying the above before January. I have requested this information in writing from customer services. On the 30th November I requested specifically the penalties I will incur if I leave I am still waiting. A 50% increase after 4 months is this legal? It must be malpractice at least Regards DAVEM0

I have their justification of the rise in writing when all they refer to is the VAT rise and I have discussed their figures with a customer services representative by phone. An error in their calculations was never mentioned. I dont know why but I do believe they know exactly what they are doing Regards DAVEM
PS Ihave 2 colleagues who have a similar AOL history as myself they have not received notification of any increase in cost, not even the VAT

I received the following
"As you may know, from 4th January 2011, the government is increasing standard VAT from 17.5% to 20%. This change will be applied to all VATable charges and call charges you may incur. At AOL Broadband we're dedicated to giving you great value, and as a result we will not be applying this to your monthly package fee, this will remain at £19.99 a month"
I am a long term user and recently agreed 12 months @£14.99 unlimited, havent contacted them as yet0 -
Well, I've still had no replies to the emails I sent them and they claim to reply within 72 hours. Tomorrow I'll be on the phone to them.0
