So agree with national guidance for school closures, in fact direct national rules instead of just guidance. Like making a decision, as DS1s school does, before 6.30am. The snowy weather has got worse for several years now, now we're headed for the next 'ice age' and people need to get used to it and deal with it appropriately. Snow is about 16inches to 2 foot in most places where it hasn't been touched. We cleared the drive this morning and there is another 2 on it now from today.

seafarers I went for an 03 Discovery, less 'modern' but much more functional and cheaper tax. Of course keep in mind 4x4s aren't hassle free, will still slide on ice and need decent All Terrain or snow tyres when it's like this. My friend as an 07 vogue with crap tyres and minimal ground clearance unlike mine and has got stuck several times. Older Jeeps are good in the snow, newer ones not so good. My old L plate cherokee is still driving round here which is nice to see.
Dusty thanks, ours is off and supply on I think, never thought anything of it as was ok last year.....I don't think there is an inside cut off
Jojo I'd have gone nuts! LEA complaint is essential, they have a duty of care to those kids!

(((hugs for everyone else who needs one))) blimey there is a few at the mo

Ds1 is on another snow day tomorrow. DP and I plan on rearranging the house, I need to sort room in the dining area for the futon and Mam's folding sofa as she'll no doubt need to stay while she's at work over the next few days, she's already asked. DS2 I'll probably find out tomorrow if he's off or not.

Been to metro hell to get stuff the boys needed like some warm tops, gloves etc primark specials this time adding an 'all in one' sleepsuit each, so cute they got feet in them! Many of the shops closed at 6.30pm instead of 10pm as they pulled the buses off at 7pm again. Costco shop done so we're stocked up on pasta, rice, potatoes, cereals, juice etc so we're pretty much sorted (prefer to use there than drain local supplies for those walking in) If I didn't need to leave the house for 2 weeks I doubt we would starve. This is of course also me trying to save ££ bulk buying and making sure we have plenty in to reduce urge to venture out. I've done errands for the local elderly, most seem to have got themselves prepared when it started, a few worry me with the local carers attitudes of we won't bother when they are housebound/rely on them for dressing etc. I have contacted SS for adults here to highlight those concerns as I think it's ridiculous using 'well other people have the day off' as an excuse not to provide care needs which are essential. DPs contract is cancelled in the morning again so no pennies yet, trying to remain calm....not working well.

Right, need to do WM/TD switch and will have a look at that outside tap connection

    Stay safe everyone xx
One day I might be more organised...........

    Brrrrrrrr!!

I've just been out for dinner for a friend's birthday, luckily I live in town centre so it was only a 5min walk to and from the restaurant. Wasn't too bad walking up there but I called DH as I left the restaurant to say I was on my way home and it was so cold that by the time he answered I could barely speak. When I go home he was waiting by the front door with a duvet to wrap me up in :D

    Tuesday list is DONE!

I'm really hoping the snow stops and isn't too bad in the morning, I need the kids to be at school/preschool so I can finish getting ready for holiday. I'm so glad we haven't told them, just in case we can't go. I have a massive long list of stuff to do tomorrow but hopefully wont take too long.

    Morning All

Another early morning for me as I was coughing again! WE've had quite a bit more snow today so I'm hoping it might be a snow day, either way I'm definitely not driving so I'll have to walk the kids to school and then walk to work myself.

It's the Beaver sleepover this weekend so I'm away Friday night until Saturday night so I need to pack for that at some point - my stuff and sort out DS's stuff. I haven't checked the list - naughty me - so I hope there isn't anything else we need as I shan't really have time to fetch it as no. 1 there's too much snow covering ice for me to drive in and no. 2 it's the school Christmas fair tomorrow night so I won't have a lot of time tomorrow. Supposedly Cubs tonight but I very much doubt that we'll be going so I should have the night at home tonight although I'll be shattered seeing as I'm up at this time of the morning.

Anyway enough waffling - I have dishes to wash and ironing to do!

Jojo and Poohbear - pleased everyone's home safely.

Hope loads of people have snow days and can enjoy the snow instead of driving in it. If you do have to drive, please be very careful.

    Have a good day all

    Hugs

    Morning all!

'Luckiliy' I had booked yesterday off work - missed rush hour in the snow but still collected DH from work and had a very near miss.....

Didn't waste the day though - successfully decluttered our bedroom and looking at today's list I might just be able to complete all the tasks tonight when I get back from work - watch this space, as they say!

Good luck to everyone today with the weather!
