Today - rather monotonous day in office (excuse any spelling mistakes I'm probably now making them on some subliminal level, just because I can.)

    Tea is bubbling (spag bog)
    Need do banking
    Need to cc stuff
Must think up exciting tea for tomorrow
Thinking of working from home tomorrow - petrol is either 137.9 or 139.7 - either way it was only 14.5 ltrs for £20 - that needs a car/driving rethink

I hear that the govt aren't going to do the reduced tariffs for the remote areas of the UK prior to the budget due to needing EU permission?

    From my local paper online

No immediate relief on fuel prices With the cost of fuel in Orkney spiralling to almost £1.50 per litre in some areas of the county, there are fears that government tax rises in this year's Budget could see further increases in petrol prices.
Orcadians are already paying well over the national average of around £1.28 per litre for unleaded petrol, with prices ranging from £1.37 on the Mainland, to £1.47 in the North Isles this week.
Despite chief secretary to the treasury Danny Alexander announcing plans for a pilot scheme last October, it has been revealed that a planned discount on fuel in remote rural areas will not be in the forthcoming Budget.
The UK needs EU permission to charge different fuel duty rates around the country and it is understood that ministers plan to make a formal request to Brussels after the Budget.

Yes, there was an article about that on one of the Hebridean news sites I read at the weekend - it was all looking so positive too. :-( Our diesel is now 132.9 although I filled up in LT's neck of the woods on sat night for 128.9 - still ludicrous but not quite so bad as yours! If it continues rising we'll have to rethink our holiday plans for next year - we used over £200 in diesel last year - this year will be more. :-(

Rubbish news on the fuel front. I am always shocked at the big differences in prices as I drive through Wales. On one journey Cardiff to Fishguard the difference could be anything from 1p to 5p per litre and you can guess where the most expensive were. Yep, the ones where there was only one petrol station in about 30 miles and people dont really have any choice.
When we were in Germany we were surprised at the cost of petrol. It wasnt as cheap as people told us but in euros they were charging a good 50p per litre less than here.

Hi pippy and everyone else

 to the petrol prices! Me and OH have just been talking about holidaying in July, touring about some islands we've not been to. Think I might look into mainland places after reading about £1.47 a litre. I always get a shock over petrol prices because I don't drive very often. It seems now that every time I need to fill up it costs another 20p a litre. Craziness.

Been keeping up with your blog btw. Need to run and read about canon balls ;)

I think its shocking huh - makes you think really doesn't it - I'm thinking of a work-at-home policy for the days when DD has no after school stuff on - that might be only 2 days a week, but if I can cut down two days petrol that might be better than nowt.

La E (hello!) - canon balls rock!! Ok that was a bit ironic. :)

DD brought home the cutest snail (on FB - Luigi) - he's from the village she was in (Moena) he's hand carved and his body is a wooden marble which moves as he slinks along - I've got him on a stone from the beach sitting my the sink so I can see him every time I'm there.

    Very simple but so beautiful!

Holidays are a worry aren't they with fuel - food prices up too etc.

We're having the great holiday debate here. Not sure what we're upto at the mo - but a 'touring holiday' with petrol that price - um, not very viable.

Anyone who wants come visit me will find themselves very welcome :)

Hugs back KC. It just goes to prove that we are more alike than we all realised when first connecting.

We find our own level, even if we don't know it at the time. Weird - like the universe resonating .... although how a cat can resonate with a Great Dane is a little beyond me at the moment :j

He sounds lovely! I'll have to pop onto f/b now, and see him properly :)

My sister wants to go to Norfolk again, a different part, tho still within travelling distance of the lovely rellies there. At least its not too far - and I'd never been there to holiday until a few years ago, there's loads of things I've not seen.

The last time we toured round we covered 900 miles (only by the clock on the car, not the ferry crossings) so I'm thinking we should definitely have a re-think...

Going to a wedding on loch lomond so thinking we can base ourselves around there and still see a lot of places we haven't seen before. Or could maybe drive as far as Oban and get a ferry from there to somewhere. Lismore perhaps. Crikey, just looked, even that is 700 mile round trip...

I was looking (on a map!:o) at your neck of the woods actually. I saw that my company are doing some sort of joint venture with a company in Thurso. No luck finding out how I go about getting myself a placement/secondment there though, just one of these things they put on the intranet without the important information! :p

Hope the writing up is going well, or at least coming to an end. :T
  • La E I didn't mean to critise you - we've thought of a touring holiday and from here to get to central scotland is 600 mile round trip.

Loch Lomand is lovely - up a bit and westwards is very islandy without the ferries - Lochgoilhead, Ardkinglas Estate, and all down Loch Fyne pensula is gorgeous - many a lovely pottery beachy day spent down that end with the kids (I use to live in Cairndow) - alot of lovely exploring that way. Oban to Loch Lomand a good hour or so - wiggly biggly.

But if you're that end and want islands there are a few.

I love touring holidays - I wonder if they are almost becoming harder to do.

Goodluck with your planning - we'd thought the Lakes and area would be great - but adding up the petrol, I'm not so sure anymore.

Writing is um, light at end of tunnel but not feeling like I'm making any progress atm. Thank you for asking - its one reason for no small things posts. Although I do my list in my head everyday. xx

Not at all, I was agreeing with you.;) I guess we'll just need to split our touring holiday into lots of little holidays and pitch up somewhere this year and go somewhere else next year.

Oooh Loch Fyne. There's an idea! Could even head to Islay from there... I'll away and get researching! :)
