Sorry, bit incoherent this evening! Just wanted to say hello and happy writing - work from home if you can, means you can pop in here more0 -
Norfolk. I have always wanted to go to Norfolk.
Touring holidays are so exciting but so expensive nowadays. Had you thought maybe about doing a touring holiday in a slightly different way, you could maybe get down to the mainland and then take a train to the lakes (think there is a virgin one that goes down the west coast. I got a first class return ticket Runcorn to Edinburgh for £10 and I am certain that it went via the Lakes). You could then maybe hire a car or a camper van once you are at the Lakes or base yourselves somewhere (travelodge deals and hire a car for odd days) would that keep the costs down a little bit? I know it isnt quite the same but it is a way to do it. Alternatively you could tour Britain with the offers of staying at different friends houses.:)
You can always come to stay here too. Did I tell you that IGER Plant research centre is just down the road from me , right next to the forest where I walk Moo. I am sure you will have heard of it in your line of work. If you wanted to move to Wales they are always recruiting research bods. Have a look at Sleep Furiously film to see how rural we are and yet only 7 miles into the main seaside town and only 15 minute drive to a vast beach. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Thank you all for your lovely wishes and ideas - I'm going to look through those later and have a look at all the options later!

I'm having holiday dilemmas too, Italy is now off (darn it, but more hassle than it was worth to organise), France may end up being too expensive for me, so a staycation will probably be the order of the day. Shouldn't grumble, after all we do live near Brighton, so not like we have far too go to do fun things! but I do love going away.........*sigh*0

House swap kittikins! :T :T (although you wouldn't want to stay in mine at the minute it's too full of cr*p!)
Yay to networked home offices :j :j0 -

I flew to LGW direct from here for 10.99 plus tax (ok the tax was 80 but if you want a holiday up here - crack on)
I hope cheery can give you a decent referenceand its big enough for a couple of families to be here and not be overcrowded
and my kids are away for 6-8 weeks in the summer - so I'll be lonely and the house will be almost empty
(don't feel sorry for me though!!!!)
If you're interested - PM me
I'm always happy for visitors/house sitters etcany time of year. But don't want to be a stalker!!!

Lots of options from Oban La E as Pippi says - you can even do "non landing cruises" from there to Coll/Tiree and back, then there's the little ferry to Kerrera, Lismore as you say, and of course the "Major Unit" ferries to the Uists, Barra and Mull. Both Mull and Skye are do-able to a large extent via public transport, and B&B's when you get there are surprisingly reasonable compared to mainland prices. We only really take the car because two weeks self catering isn't really practical without it - when we were doing shorter stays and staying in B&B's and travelling about the islands we always used buses and it was fine. Public transport is also cheap compared to the same distances travelled on the mainland. Remember too that the ferries to the Uists, Barra, Lewis & Harris are currently covered by the Road Equivalent Tariff trial too - our ferry this year for me, MrEH and a Renault Clio called Grace will be under £70 return. :T That's about half what it would be without RET so makes up a lot for the increase in fuel prices once there. I'm afraid we also fill up on the mainland before heading across - then top up again on Skye before going for the ferry. We don't feel guilty about it as the islanders do the same!
Oops - I've gone on a bit, sorry - favourite subject!
Pippi glad to hear that the writing is getting there, even if slowly. Mouse bites remember......no, not that mouse, metaphorical ones! :rotfl: Will try to catch up with your blog later on as well - I read blogs weekly normally so yours is brilliant as I have lots of good stuff to read when I get there!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
