I didn't post a link as the 2 previous ones posted where either not read or ignored as 'media hype'. This is not media hype - the stastics for the Punjab and Delhi show that approx. 15% of female pregancies are aborted. http://www.christian.org.uk/news/british-indian-women-going-abroad-to-abort-baby-girls/. There are ofcourse links to Daily Mail articles, but that could well be accused of being media drivel!!! Witness the Night by Kishwar Desai deals with this problem. This is not a rascist issue this a rights for women issue. If you do any sort of research into this you will find lots of information frequently by British asians, remember the dying rooms, we couldn't believe that either or female circumsion, but they are not media hype they are real issues for women.0

Sorry Sam, but you are simply not privy to the thought processes or 'off the record' discussions of the policy makers, so please don't make statements that you simply can not back up.0

Do you have any statistical evidence that women in the UK actually terminate female fetuses for "cultural reasons" ?
Can you provide a link to the UK Birth statistics that confirms the ratio of males to females which are born to certain ethnic groups are unbalanced ?
No one is disputing that unethical and barbaric practices happen but, can you explain why you feel that the policy makers think would it would make any difference if a Hospital refused to reveal the sex - I know that the NHS can have its failings but common sense and logic should tell you that any woman willing to terminate a pregnancy for "cultural reasons" woulds have a private scan at 16 weeks rather than wait till 20 weeks for the sake of saving a few quid.0 -
Found out the wife was pregnant a week ago,not interested what sex it is,couldn't give a monkeys, didn't for the first one and sure as hell don't want to know this one,can understand why people do want to know but before the first we'd tried for 8 years with IVF an all so really did not give a rats what came out, just glad he did. Can't wait to find out what this one is,just another 7 1/2 month to wait.I'm counting down to the first scan and getting all the old neutral new born outfits back out2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0

We wanted to know the sex, our doctor was desperate to tell us but the baby kept its legs resolutely closed till 30 weeks.
Christmas is coming up; would the grandparents consider clubbing together to get you a 4D scan if you really need to know?Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

The 20 week scan is to check the health of your baby, not to tell you the sex of it and that is what your taxes go to pay. We've just had our 20 week scan, have never wanted to know what it is, just that it's healthy, and our hospital trust policy is not to tell anyway - as the sonographer said, it's really not important. As several of the posters pointed out, there is ethnic/gender cleansing in some areas and people do abort babies for simply being the 'wrong sex' as it's more important for them to have a boy as the first born.
What difference does it make knowing what it is to how you'll begin to look after it? You'll still feed it, wind it, change it's nappy, make sure it's happy and healthy, and love it the same - you certainly don't need to know the sex of the child to be able to do that.
Boy or girl makes no difference - that's what neutral colours are for. You can easily shop after the baby has arrived. Too much in life is certain, and you should be thankful that your baby is healthy above everything else.Life is what you make it. Always has been, always will be0 -

Links with statistics already provided. 100 babies per year. If evidence provided is not read or ingested then this discussion is pointless. I have provided point, evidence and explanation, I can do no more. This is not rascist, certainly not from my point of view. I will reiterate this is a womans issue of equality and to deny its existence is to enable it to continue and it is every human beings obligation to stop suppression and insist on equality. I can say no more.:/0 -

I have read the above link several times and I fail to understand how an ESTIMATE of 100 babies per year referred to in an article published by the "christian institute" (who ever they may be) can be considered as official UK population statistics.
Do you not realise that there is accurate and official government data that monitors the UK s population ?
It is laughable that that NHS policy makers would use such sources as information on which to base their policies.
Going back to the original point of this thread,it was suggested that some hospitals refused to reveal a babies sex because there were a disproportionate number of boys to girls born in some ethnic communities you still seem unable to provide accurate official data or indeed a copy of a hospitals policy to validate these claims.0
