Honesty is the best policy. You're obviously an honest person to try to contact them at all, so do drop them a line. It won't take long and then you won't have it on your conscience, you'll be a good example to others and you'll have a Happier Christmas knowing you've done the right thing. Cheers.0

When Tesco cash up every night and realise thay have overcharged thousands of people, do they make every effort to rectify their mistakes................?
No.
So enjoy the wine with your goose........or turkey>0 -
I have taken the opportunity to grab a MSE freebie - but I'm afraid YOUR MERLOT doesn't count as a freebie in the spirit of MSE. I note that his freebies are when a company ->knowingly<- gives you something for free (however inversely it does cost you something).
The Merlot doesn't belong to you as you received the items UNKNOWLINGLY by the company and you should make EVERY REASONABLE attempt to return it. They are NOT considered a gift either!!. You are stealing and lying if you think otherwise and you are not a true MSEr.
Physically return the bottles to the nearest store and explain what happened. Suggest that returning the Merlot was at your inconvenience and you should be compensated perhaps with a bottle or two of Merlot :0). The taste of the Merlot will be so more palatable.

Should we keep the wine?We received our weekly grocery delivery this evening from a leading supermarket. My husband accepted it whilst I was otherwise engaged and on checking the order I discovered we'd received 6 bottles of Merlot wine worth over £40 that we hadn’t ordered (or been charged for). My husband said we should keep quiet, but my conscience said otherwise. I called customer services and was on hold for over 30 mins before giving up. Should I persevere and ring again another day, tell the delivery driver next week or keep quiet and consider it an early Christmas present?Click reply to have your say
Previous MMDs:No! You did not ask for these goods, you did not pay for these goods. It was a genuine mistake by the store and should be returned to the store. If the store rewards you for your honesty by letting you keep the goods, that’s fine.....if not, they should be returned! Anything else would basically be stealing. If the situation was reversed would you not want your goods back?0 -
I always say if you're asking this type of question you already know the answer.Put it this way if you took a mate or family member shopping and they left something in the boot of your car, would you have doubts if you should return it to them?If you want to 'win' the wine, then send them an email and hope they say keep it.If not give it to the delivery driver next time.0

Are you having a laugh?

The definition of theft is "The felonious misappropriation of the property of another, with the intention to permanently deprive them thereof" if all of the conditions are met, it is theft, if not, then not.
I would keep the wine, I rather like Merlot.0 -
If you keep them with "the intention of permanently depriving" the store, then it speaks for itself. It is theft.
You should really have called the delivery driver back on the mobile number he used to tell you that he was on his way. I did this recently, and the delivery driver was so grateful, he said that he could potentially have lost his job if the person for whom the item was actually intended had reported the missing item.Owed @ LBM, including mtg: £85961.15, As of 1st August 2016: £14481.01 :j
September 2016; out of debt and have savings for the saddest reason. RIP Aunty, I'll never forget you:(
Never begin a sentence with "And". Unless you are the Goo Goo Dolls that is.0 -
To say nothing or just keep it is dishonest. Remember, that mistake may cost someone their job. Contact the company using all available means and offer it back.
I've found most supermarket chains to be unfailingly honest and they usually exceed statutory roghts by some distance.
If I'm given too much change or undercharged in a shop I always alert the assistant. It's just being honest. I do the same when I'm overcharged or short-changed. It is virtually always handled with good grace on both sides.
I used to work for retail company in a logistics role. Retail staff who made mistakes were treat harshly and, if their position survived it, lived under suspicion thereafter.
Shame on all you thieves who think you chould keep it.0 -
I call these types of occasions, "little victories in life". Yes, I would attempt to contact the supermarket, but if they don't do anything about it, at least I've tried.C'mon you Canaries!!0
