Alcohol before midday could get you 2 points on incap, but its not considered under ESA anymore.

2 points would not entitle you to the benefit though, you would need many other problems that passed many other descriptors before being eligible.

Good sense at last they will no longer be rewarded for their weakness more money for those who haven't. Self inflicted illness

People with alcohol addictions are generally mentally ill. I don't know anyone who has just decided to self-harm. I hope one day you get depression and see how hard it is to control urges to self-harm.

You contradict yourself here - you say that "the money should be given to those who develop illness beyond their control" - mental illness is beyond someones' control.

Alcoholism and mental illness two very
different illnesses you need to do a bit of research are you saying all alcoholics are depressed!

It's the amount of alcohol a person drinks eventually has am effect on the brain causing the breakdown of the body, eg liver, heart etc. This is what causes the Brain to react with symptoms of mental illness unlike other illness Lund depression alcoholism can be cured start getting help eventually detoxing the system, clearing the mind will follow. I do sympathise with depression suffers I too let my illness get me down but I sought help , had CBT and the determination to win and I am so lucky I came through it! Do don't patronise me in the effects of mental illness I saw it first hand with a young relative who unfortunately didn't come out the other end. Inner strength is needed .

Not all alcoholics are depressed, and not all depressives are alcoholics but the two can and do co-exist in some people.

Some use it as a method of self harm, due to events in their lives.

An oral appeal is usually perhaps always the way to go.
As for meds i can sympathise as i take 17 different ones and they now want to add an 18th....

Do you mind me asking how do you afford all those meds, it must be a nightmare. I'm currently waiting for different tests etc after staying away from doctors for over 12 years (lost all faith in them). I have various health problems, back, coccyx, feet, and in the past 5 years or so, I've developed terrible joint pain and severe fatigue/tiredness.

I'm now worried sick as all the changes will mean medicals etc, and of course the fact that I've avoided doctors may look as though I was hunky dory when in fact I've merely existed. I've been in terrible pain/discomfort etc over the years and hope that maybe I'll get some relief now - although going by the dismissive way the doctor I recently saw acted - I very much doubt things will change except for me getting more depressed (if that's possible) . I already go to bed and hope I don't wake up and when I do the feeling of despair is unbearable. I didn't know where to start in trying to discuss my many ailments - and never managed to discuss them all in any detail (you only get a short appointment). My family don't bother with me as they probably think I'm a right whinge, especially as one minute I'm complaining about my coccyx pain, then it's my feet, then my joints etc. I must sound like a nightmare. Only fellow sufferers would understand I think. I miss my lovely mam something terrible. You always realise how much someone meant to you when it's too late........

I won't qualify for free prescriptions as I don't receive income support and I'm worried about the cost of numerous prescriptions that I may get. Do many of you buy the yearly certificate?

Sorry for the long winded whinge, but I hate news years eve as I'll be alone as usual - and things always seem worse

Personally, I qualify under the medical exemptions - I have a continuing (ie, permanent) physical disability that means I'm unable to get out of my home without the help of another person.

So true and some use it as an excuse not to face up to events in their lives, so easy to do it takes a stronger person to get out and fight for life. It is after all what you make it!!
