I've just dropped my big boy off to "big boy school" ie not nursery. I got to stay with him yesterday as it was his first day but I was only allowed 10 minutes today. In a way it's probably better as he's very clingy and I'm sure he'll mix more without me being there, but still I feel very anxious. I just want to know he was okay. I'm sure he will be and I need to pull myself together.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000

So DS was fine at school yesterday. However this morning he kept saying "no school" and he really didn't want to go. It was a nursery day too so I dropped him at nursery and they will take him to school this afternoon and I will pick him up from there.
It was really heartbreaking to see him not want to go to school but I know once he's there he's fine. He does the same with nursery. He just wants to be home all the time. I do wonder what I have done to make him like this sometimes. I had to raise my voice this morning (I didn't shout I promise) and told him in no uncertain terms that he was going to school this morning and please stop whinging as he was going no matter what! I felt like such a bad mother! I'm pretty sure he'll be pulling sickies when he's olderI do try to make school sound as exciting as possible but he's having none of it!

Aw starnac (((((((((()))))))))))
Not something I've experienced but it sounds rotten
Must be so difficult to leave him! You are NOT a bad mother, I promise xx Plenty of kids don't want to go to school sometimes - bed is always more appealing!
You'd be a much worse mother if you only ever let him do exactly what he wanted - think what kind of a spoilt brat you'd raise then! Never eating any vegetables, never cleaning teeth, never making bed, or saying please, or sharing, or going to school or learning to read
(not saying your boy dislikes all of those things of course, just an example of things that people have to learn to do whether they like them or not!)
So be kind to yourselfI'm sure he'll find it easier as time goes on.
If it's any consolation, I HATED going to school at firstI kicked and screamed, ran out of the playground crying, and on several occasions had to be restrained by the teacher as my mum sneaked out of the classroom
Eventually I came to love school and given that I work in a university, you could argue that I never really left0 -

:rotfl: I'd say he dislikes all of those except the reading one. He loves stories and books. The only thing that convinces him to go to bed these days is the promise of a story!
Thank you for your kind words. DD used to run into school without a second glance at me. When I complained to my mum about how hurt I felt that she didn't need me anymore, my mum always used to stay "be grateful she's not needy and clingy. That's worse!" well I hate to say it but I think she's right! Don't tell her that thoughGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Afternoon all. INSET day here so I have both DD and DS off today. DS went to his first session of Speech Therapy this morning and was fantastic. He worked so hard. I took some notes during the session so that I can copy what he did at home with him. The lady was lovely and printed some of the pictures off for me too, so I can use the same pictures as she did. I didn't mind doing my own but there is a benefit to using the exact same pictures so I am grateful to her.
We then met up with some mummy friends in a local cafe for lunch. We do this once a week and usally only costs me about £3 (lunch for both me and DS plus drinks!!) but today DD came with us too and they both had an ice cream each which DS doesn't usually have so it cost me slightly over £5!! extortionateIt was really nice though. They are so lovely there.
Minimum payment for the loan has gone out. It went out yesterday but the balance didn't change until today to reflect that. £149.64 off the balance meaning we are paying less than £20 a month interest now(got to take the small wins when I can
)
I've updated my signature and I'm not convinced I can leave it so close to £300 like that so I may do some shuffling to see if I can squeeze the extra £10 from somewhere

It probably wont do any harm to make your own pictures to help your DS. Obvs I dont know what SAL issues he has but my experience with the children I work with is that they learn to 'perfom' for the therapist with a set of standard resources but when it comes to generalise away from the session they struggle: child may correctly identify a cat sat on a table from a picture but shown the same thing in a different way, they are unable to label it. Not all of course but enough to make us produce our own resources to support the therapy. We also use concrete resources to translate the abstract pictures- we would have a soft toy cat and sit it on a table in the home corner IYSWIM

Thank you for your input Igamogam. I don't think this would be a problem for us. Please don't think I am bragging. (I realise what it looks like when parents say things about their kids) DS is very clever. He's probably brighter than DD was at that age (3) and she's one of the top in her class. His issue is pronounciation. He has the vowels and the syllables of the word but a lot of the constanants are missing. For instance for "sock" he would say "o" or "shoe" would be "ooo". Yesterday the therapist was trying to get him to realise that that he was missing sounds by showing him a "bow" and a "boat" They are both the same sound except the "t" on the end which normally he would miss off. So we are working on trying to get him to realise there is a sound at the end of the word. She showed him a picture of a little girl with long hair and a picture of the sea. He had to ask for either a "bow" or a "boat" to go on one of the pictures. If he wanted a boat but didn't pronounce the "t" on the end, she gave him a bow for the little girl's hair. I hope you understand as I think I'm waffling.
She's trying to contact the school to find out which sound recognition system they use (welsh-medium school) so she can use them with him in the sessions.
Really I don't suppose what pictures I use are going to matter. Unless you think that I should use different? I do like the idea of using concrete resources as well. Thank you for the tip. All advice gratefully received.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -

I'm so glad the speech therapy session went well Star. My DD is very advanced with language and pronunciation but has a slight stammer if she gets excited so we went to an observation session last month. I sometimes wonder if they are having the problems because they are advanced. With DD you can nearly see the cogs whirring in her brain.
It's great to be in the system and at such a young age too though isn't it?Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

I've pushed and pushed for this. He knows exactly what he wants to say and at home he's a right chatterbox but outside he will only say the bare minimum as he is aware (I think) that he has issues and not everyone understands him. I feel so bad for him as when he's at home with me I can understand him 95% of the time.
Hope something good comes out of the observation session for you and DDGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Morning all (just). How was everyone's weekend? We had a busy one tidying and decluttering. We tidied the playroom and decluttered the playroom, DD's bedroom and started on the kitchen. DD was fantastic. Normally she hates getting rid of anything but she actually got rid of 3 boxes full!! I'm so proud of her. All were toys or books that were too young for her. :T
Also a small payment of £20 made to the loan this morning. I was lucky enough to find £20 on the floor while walking home from school on friday. (not so lucky for the person who dropped it I agree) so that went to the loan this morning.
I've had an email from the company who owes me money. They said last week that the money would be transfered today but the email this morning says there has been a delay and will be with me wednesday or thursday. I will give them the benefit of the doubt this one last time as normally they don't even bother getting in touch, but I will be ringing them Thursday if it's not in my account!!
