For instance my mum would feel really guilty on the weeks she couldn't afford meat for Sunday dinner and would have to give us sausages instead. I loved sausage dinners and used to see it as a treat!
I'm sure I mentioned this before (and hello by the way lovely to see you) - we use to have pancakes and jam for tea regularly. We ALL rant about how ace it was as we didn't have anything else.:D
I had no idea it was because aside those moderate ingredients we had NOTHING in the house to eat. You can feed a family of 4 kids like princes and princesses on pancakes and they'll have no idea aside the adventure it was.
She also knitted some rather HIDEOUS jumpers from old scraps of jumpers from the charity shop she'd rattled down - but lets not relive the 'matching jumpers' phase of my life. *shudders*
Just saying.

Hi Star!
Great to see you back here. I am trying to get rid of my debt for the same reasons as you.
Your Mum sounds wonderful. I also had a great childhood and although money was scarce, we weren't aware of it (a bit like yourself). I wish I could confide in my Mam now the way you do with yours

Bit of a pants start today. DS was up most of the night whinging and crying. DH eventually went and warned up some milk for him to try to get him back to sleep. DS drank it and seconds later it was all back up! Since then we've spent the remainder of the night cleaning up sick. He's a bit better this morning. Although he is just sat quietly watching a DVD which isn't really like him. Think we'll have a nice quiet mammy and baby dayGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000

Definitely a day for snuggling and quietness I should think. Enjoy, and hope the sickiness doesn't make a....ummmm.....re-appearance, as it were. _pale_🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks EH.
DS has gone back to bed for a nap. He was so tired bless him. I have just finished cleaning out the tortoise table. A job DH said he was going to do last week and still hasn't. Ah well at least it's done now. George has a nice shiny, clean house now. Not that he appreciated it as he just did the biggest poo you've ever seen (Sorry TMI) *rolls eyes*
DH had yesterday off work and he cleared out the spare room which had gone back to being a dumping ground. He cleared all the boxes out of there and put the sofa bed back together. We took all the kids toys upstairs and they now have a rather lovely playroomThey have both been given a little box each that fits under the coffee table and any toys they want to stay downstairs has to fit in their box. Anything that doesn't has to go back upstairs once they have finished playing with it. I'm hoping this will help keep the living room a bit tidier although I am not holding my breath as DH has said they can keep the train set down here too!!
I do love the playroom for them though. It's right in between both their bedrooms so they've got pretty much the whole of the upstairs between them :rotfl: They are slowly taking over my house! Seriously though as long as they have somewhere nice to play and I don't feel that I'm constantly on at them to tidy their bedrooms then it's a win I think.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
That's a great idea with the boxes - means they will have to learn to make "either, or..." choices about what they keep where as well - great stuff! :T
The tortoise table sounds like about as nice a job as the cat litter tray always was...! Now THAT I don't miss!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

It's not the nicest job. Do you think you would adopt another kitty??
DS and I went shopping this morning as we had hardly anything in. And when I say "hardly anything" I mean butter, bread, biscuits and milkWe are currently eating our way through the cupboards and freezers to save some money plus use up some of the food we already have in. Tea's have been unusual and a bit of a surprise but there have been no complaints and it's all being eaten so that's a good thing.
We did need a few bits though - bread flour, pasta, washing up liquid, beans and chopped tomatoes, so we went to L1dl's straight from dropping DD off at school. DS cried all the way around and I ended up buying him some pop (own brand fruit sh00t thing) to stop him crying. I even offered to open it for him while I shopped (I know you are not supposed to til you pay for it but he was really crying and everyone was looking at me) but he was quite content to just hold it til we got to the checkout. Apart from that, which wasn't on the list, I stuck to the list and spent £16.88. In that I also picked up some extra pasta to put in the food bank box at church. So not too shabby I thought.
I've got enough things to make meals now. I can make bread and pizza again now so won't have to buy those.
In other MSE news the kids have a birthday party to go to tomorrow. I have made the birthday girl a present using fabric I already had and will use a birthday card from my stash. :money:Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Hey there sorry to hear DS has been poorly poor man.
Hope he's properly on the mend now.
Well done on that shopping - I took out 100 at the start of the month and I've really torn into it with one thing and another. I must take a list with me on Sunday when I get our fruit etc in.
Unusual meals being eaten is rather fabby too.
Food bank - must get something for mine too - can't seem to find a donation box to pop regular things in, so I must pop into the food bank.
Sounds like you're on the case with the pressie too! And if the kids are at a party they'll fill up on grub and treats there too (or am I terrible!) something fun and cost free for you to have them look forward too.
Playroom sounds ace too.
Waves to George - always wanted a tortoise I have.
Hope the weekend is kind to you me dearTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Hi Pippi thanks for popping in.
We had £40 that we want to last as long as possible really. So far we've spent about £25 in 2 weeks so not too bad. We did have quite a bit in the cupboards and freezer to start with though.
I'm hoping the money will last another week tbhGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000
