I would let this guy know you are aware his previous email was a lie and tell him that you were more than prepared to be reasonable and accept a refund but since you have found out he has gone to these lengths to deceive you there will be no refund.

make sure this guy knows that due to his own actions he has stopped any possible good outcome to this transaction
