Claire - think positive - it could have been so much worse

And this brings me to one of my specialities - I ain't too good at tea & sympathy but can do practical at brilliant level...

First - at least both breaks are in the one arm (think toiletting duties )
Do you have paracetamol/ibuprofen in the house as there will also be pain etc from bruises & stuff
He'll probably have a bit of shock so make sure the house is warm
Dig out insurance policy for bike as this will need to be dealt with.
Has bike been recovered? - If not & you're in the RAC/AA - they will recover it for you & bring to either house or a garage
Which arm is broken? - like I'm VERY right-handed so a broken right arm would be far worse than a left arm for me...
Does he get sick pay when he's off?
Asuming he gets sick pay, does he work overtime that you include in your budget - as this will not be paid so budget will need to adjust accordingly

I'm not a doom & gloom merchant but I feel better if there are things I can do

Remember, there will be tears from you all for the next few days re this - tears are OK
Take care & if there's anything we can do, let us know

Excellent post Clooties Mum :T I am another one that needs practical things to do in a crisis.

Warped sense of humour alert - I am hoping it is opposite arm to you Claire so that you have a good pair between you. - sorry, I will creep away now.....

Hugs to both you and DH Claire, the boys are going to have to do a bit more than bedrooms and filling the dishwasher me thinks.

  • Talk about the New Year starting with a bang... Claire I'm so sorry your DH has come a cropper. I fractured my wrist many years ago and it was so inconvenient - two breaks is much more so.

ClootiesMum, great practical ideas, wish I could have pressed the thanks button at leat 10 more times.

MG, in the midst of crisis comes opportunity. I wish you well in making your choices about your work and the boys' education. Could it be that the Universe has dropped you not a bombshell but the freedom to rethink what is best for all of you?

    Take care out there, folks.

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

    Excellent post by ClootiesMum.

Maty - bad girl, altho' my warped sense of humour was also having a chuckle :o.

I second wot GQ said - take care folks, don't think this cold snap has let the country go yet.

Claire - think positive - it could have been so much worse

yep it could have been :(

And this brings me to one of my specialities - I ain't too good at tea & sympathy but can do practical at brilliant level...

First - at least both breaks are in the one arm (think toiletting duties )

    ewww yep

Do you have paracetamol/ibuprofen in the house as there will also be pain etc from bruises & stuff

the hospital gave him some and I have some here
He'll probably have a bit of shock so make sure the house is warm

will put heating on in a minute

Dig out insurance policy for bike as this will need to be dealt with.

wasn't a motorbike it was a push bike, which is covered on insurance as iyt is an expensive one.

Has bike been recovered? - If not & you're in the RAC/AA - they will recover it for you & bring to either house or a garage

the bike is in work, he got up and walked the rest of the way to work  and the bloke who was working with him took him to A & E in the car.

Which arm is broken? - like I'm VERY right-handed so a broken right arm would be far worse than a left arm for me...

His right arm :( the one he uses.

Does he get sick pay when he's off?

    statutory sick pay

Asuming he gets sick pay, does he work overtime that you include in your budget - as this will not be paid so budget will need to adjust accordingly

yep we include overtime in the budget, but theres still a weeks pay plus ovwertime from dec to be paid this month as they were paid a week early, so with the over time this week that was done theres 2 weeks pay there. Plus he had a pay rise in dec so that will help

lol I laughed at that, but nope we are both righties :( not a good pair between us.

On a brighter note, will work as an advantage for me cause now he will know how hard it is to do stuff with only one arm, and he may stop moaning so much when I ask for help in future :)

  • Just popping in with a virtual hamper for MemoryGirl and Claire to cheer you both up:
    It contains:
Chocolate ( you can never have enough chocolate in times of stress)
A jar of “ breathing space” (open this and you will be instantly calmer and able to think clearly)
A tin of shabby chic paint (maybe to repaint the School into a Community Resource or telecottage?)
A ‘new to you’ piece of furniture (a virtual writing bureau for Memory Girl to plan her new life, and a virtual cabinet for Claire to store all her jewellery supplies)
Positive thoughts from me that you both will overcome the challenges you are facing.
    Take care

    ALL CHANGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Teacher, a kindi teacher and some of the parents are setting up a base for the kids in local Uni Town. So school ( a pared down version is back on for the forseeable) Mornings only - but both boys so that's a bonus.

So at least I have breathing space to sort out provision for DS1 from summer (i hope)

In the meantime I shall be out of the house until 1.45 every day - so need to get a wiggle on and figure out where it is safe and warm to work with my laptop from 9am - 1pm.

................ looks like the virual bureau wasn't to far off the mark :D:D

Can I please start programming for a quieter life :rotfl:
