Crickett, had to laugh at your skirt and cat hairs - spent half an hour this morning using a sticky roller to take cat hairs off my warmest black babycord skirt! After all that, I decided it was too cold even with thick tights on, and reverted to thermal leggings under warm trousers... and was very glad when I went outside :eek:.
This morning, went with a friend for a Christmas highlight - tea and hm biscuits in a lovely small country house hotel not too far from here, lovely blazing log fire and beautiful Christmas decorations, reached via a winter wonderland with rabbits, pheasants... last time we went (2 weeks ago) we also saw two swans a-swimming in the partially frozen river nearby, and six geese standing on the ice!! I feel for the wildlife, trying to survive in such extreme cold, and could see some trees have been stripped of their bark by hungry deer, which have come down off the moorland to find something to eat.
Came home to collect a parcel from the sorting office, and my clever daughter in NZ has thought laterally, and has sent me an Amazon UK parcel.... very organised of her! so I have had a lovely morning.
Nice to be on annual leave, and this afternoon is earmarked for making and baking MG's biscotti.
GQ xoxIf you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

If you are making biscotti today GQ you are probably having a more productive day than I am
However turned off the water to the sink and bath (fortunately the loo still works) so since this morning no more water has appeared in downstairs livingroom.
Neighbour downstairs has got Gastroenteritis so really could be done with not having this happen.
DS1 went for a shower this morning and the water didn't drain away. Dad (on the phone) suggested that it wasn't frozen pipe but a blockage so to put chemical unblock down it. I decided not because I know that our bathroom is over the livingroom downstairs.
So I plunged the waste - not a lot happened. So I ran some hot water from the sink - it flowed up in the bath, then gurgled away. Now know that it gurgled away into downstairs livingroom as they collected warm water :eek:
Spent 20 minutes getting through to Insurance Co who told me I wasn't covered for inside pipes
So I quoted section 7 of my schedule - and they gave me another number to call.
Spent 50 minutes waiting for them to answer - they said I was covered and they would get someone to call within 4 hours.
2 hours later -guy called saying they would be out sometime between 8am and 5pm tomorrow.
Noticed very strong smell of ( damp stale soil ) in my storecupboard, so had to investigate. So took me about 40 minutes to empty the storeroom ( note to self need to order more plain flour)
Unscrewed the ply - found a plume of water under the floorboards - so unscrewed the plasterboard wall - to find a redundant waste pipe that looks as if water has flowed back up it. Don't know why the plumbers who put in our bathroom didn't cap it.
So long and short it - I think I have a frozen waste pipe and the water has been backing up to the redundant waste pipe and flowing out under the floorboards.
However will need to leave it to the plumber who comes out tomorrow to confirm, although what he can do about frozen waste pipes I have no idea.
So much for being organised for Christmas :rotfl::rotfl:. BTW its -7 here today so WAY cold enough for everything to be frozen IYSWIM.
So time for plan B I think
Oh there has been some good news. My Memoryguy mate sent me a pressie through Amazon about 10 days ago and it's just arrived by "special" drop off by a postie on his way home.
Now the cynic in me would say that the fact I have been bribing my regular postie with hob nobs, melting moments, clootie dumpling and tablet over the last week has nothing to do with it - although the new guy did go away with a pocket full of sweet stuff anyways
So Memorygirl has got a pressie to open on Christmas morning too:T

MGClimbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

I have been sooo poorly! I had a cold a few weeks ago and wasn't well for over a week but managed to get to work and carry on but this has been terrible. I spent yesterday with my head burning but the rest of me shaking with cold, coughing and with a really sore head. Today I have spent in bed (unheard of for me) mostly sleeping, taking paracetemol and I do feel a little better so will hopefully be back at work tomorrow.
Still have some presents to wrap  will get them done tomorrow night hopefully as its my works christmas do on thursday. Might actually get DS2's girlfriend on the case!
Stay safe and warm - I too will be making the biscotti soon.....didn't want to do it while I was sick!Climbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

Hope everyone who's feeling poorly feels better for the weekend.
Both boys in bed, so filled the hottie, turned off the heating and thrown all the blankets on the sofa. Lit a smelly candle and turned off the decorations ( know they can't eat much electricity but every little will help come the gas bill that's looming) I just can't seem to get warm today at all.
Oh I hope the plumber arrives tomorrow - otherwise Clootiesmum will be getting a visit on Friday night from three rather smelly Christmas elves looking for a shower :rotfl::rotfl:
DS1 has got his best friend coming to play on the next two days (schools are out and his Mum has to work to make up for lost hours during the last snow, so it makes sense they all come and play here together - what's one more excited kid in the week before Christmas between friends?????) So tomorrow will be junk food lunch (HM finger rolls and hot dogs) followed by a movie and popcorn and milkshakes in the afternoon when it gets colder.
Just got to make the sourdough bread tomorrow, then all the presents are done and dusted - so apart from no running water, everything is on schedule chez Memorygirl.
Please, please, please let everyone get home for Saturday (esp Firewalker as she is so far away)
When I think of everything we have done in 2010 - I so hope 2011 brings us all our dreams.
Night ladies
