We've stayed in travelodges before for about £30 so fingers crossed there's some deals around. If not, we may be able to stay with OH's family or a friend. It's whether they'd mind putting up OH's mate too.No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
Waves hello at everyone :hello:
Have been awol since Monday - Thrifty Towers was struck by "reet propa 'flu" on Monday evening. It's sobering the effects of real 'flu. Mr Thrifty and I were confined to bed for 48 hours straight - at one point I got out of bed and promptly fainted . Thank goodness our kids are teenagers and not young 'uns and were able to look after themselves. Tell you what, after this, if the 'flu vaccine was available to our age group I'd take it like a shot. Hubby has been left with the mother of all chest infections. Apparently the uptake of the vaccine is really low this year, so if you are eligible and haven't yet had it, after what oh and I have had, I'd encourage you to get it.
Hope everyone is surviving the snow - 6 inches here. Managed to get to the local store for bread and milk. Am so pleased to have filled the freezer and built up a store cupboard over the past 6 months so plenty of stores in.
Take care everyone, keep safe & warm - am off to make a homemade soup and catch up on the last 6 pages or so.0 -
Phew!
That was a busy few days!
Had a dicey moment when car wouldn't go faster than 10mph and garage couldn't fix it  but all sorted now.
Now - we're meant to be driving pretty much as far north in Scotland as you can go on Monday - some nice clear roads would be nice please universe:rotfl: :rotfl:

The roads in Scotland are pretty good atm Cheery, we drove back up here from Leicester and Yorkshire on Weds and the roads were crystal both on the M6 and the A1. with a bit of luck the weather should hold for you.0 -

Afternoon matrix
It's been snowing here in the Chilterns most of the day. Hills are all impassable except to 4x4s (and we don't have one of those!!) so I'm glad our Christmas get-together with my sister and brother and their families was cancelled. We were snowed out last December and I don't want to be caught again this year especially as I should be on my own as t'other half is still unable to put any weight on his broken leg.
I walked round to the post box after lunch and took some piccies. It is just so beautiful and so quiet!!!!
Take great care everyone.

Operation Christmas is still on going here despite the snow attempting to thwart it! A colleague of DH's got her shopping delivery from Mr A's cancelled yesterday and I started to get a panic on as I have my delivery booked for the 23rd with all my christmas food (if I buy it too early it gets eaten by the masses!) and if it were to be cancelled I would end up in a flat spin! So I went out today and got a good chunk of what I need so I'll change my delivery.
Hopefully DD will go to bed at a reasonable time tonight (she's been up as she's had a bad cold) as I need to wrap all the presents
Got a kilner jar cheap in Mr T's to hold some of the Mocha Coffee for DSIL's christmas parcel and some gift bags on 3 for 2 so I should be able to put the in-laws goody bags together from the children.
Have a good evening!Climbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

Fantasia don't panic just yet. He may just have told your friend that he had brought your pressie during the trip to Asda, doesn't mean he actually got it there
Wanders away muttering I really hope I have got that right, she could be very disappointed this time next week :rotfl::j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
Oh Fantasia, that really made me laugh... sorry... but my ex once gave me a plastic document holder for Christmas, it cost him all of £1.50!! I still laugh when I think about it.
Looking forward to hearing in due course what he found for you.
I'm single these days, and I give myself something I need for Christmas. This year it's a padded gilet, not expensive but a lovely bright cerise pink, big enough to go over all the other layers I'm wearing. Nothing better than being warm and cosy.
Enjoy your rose - definitely my favourite colour of wine.
