............. or strangely enough a crisp apple and a slice of strong cheddar

................ told you it isn't for the calorie conscious, but in my defence one half a dumpling does our family right through Xmas and New Year as a "wee piece" when visitors come around.

I'm thinking that maybe I need to have a "New Year Fairy" in January and come up with some healthy recipes instead :rotfl::rotfl:

We eat Christmas Cake with Wensleydale here in Yorkshire and very nice it is too. My parents would eat apple pie with a slice of Wensleydale as well.

I'm glad to have the recipe but I won't be making it, I've still got a quarter of Christening Cake saved for Christmas for when the need for Christmassy dried fruit confections strikes.

Which leads me on to the 50 Day Challenge, one of mine was to lose a stone which I have found very difficult. Like MG I have been baking presents and cooking ahead and being surrounded by food is not easy.
I have lost 7 pounds which is 7 pounds that I shouldn't have to lose in January so not total failure, but I reckon now that the challenge over the next two weeks is not to put on any weight.

There will be lots of lovely food in the house and I'm not going to even think about it on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day but there will have to be other days to balance things out.
  • What's the fluffy white stuff all over the roads, pavements, trees, houses??????
  • I hope everyone is safe and warm - weather here is terrible...roads are closed, people stranded and that was all before 7am. I'm so glad I've moved in to the flat (all be it with little heating) as it only took 30 minutes to get to work but slightly disappointed that all Christmas meals have been cancelled as that was one of the reasons I wanted to move early :(

Ahh no, sun's out and it's melting now.

Bah, we never get decent snow!!

To everyone with some of the real stuff; keep warm and safe. Don't go out unless you have to, or want to build a snowman! Try not to fall over, but if you do, post videos on You-tube and don't hurt yourseld!

Oh, and can you pop some snow in a freezer box and send it down my way.

    Lovely.

    Thanks :)
  • We were so lucky to get away with it re the weather yesterday. It was sleety snow that came down and settled on the grass and rooves, but not the roads and although untreated surfaces were a bit dicey this morning (Hubby's car did slide a bit on the way to the main road) once we got on that road, we were fine. Thank goodness.

To all who have not been so lucky, lots of positive vibes to get you through this weather. :D

Me too although OH has an alternative version I'm a little teapot, short and stout, here's my handle, here's my oh s**t I'm a sugar basin :)

Well the family division is getting wider we finally have the white stuff in the north and OH tried to get the kids to school and eventually made it only to find school closed although not on the website as closed  and has had to abandon the car and walk part of the way home. So the anticipated meet up in Birmingham tomorrow is now looking dodgy on all fronts him coming down and me getting up as it is snowing here too and of course don't know if OS will be discharged anyway :(
