  • HELP PLEASE!

I need some assistance in seeing a positive spin on something please. I work in a team of 6 accountants. 5 of them are CIMA accountants, and the office junior has just passed his CIMA case study. I am the odd one out (in so many different ways!) because I studied the CIPFA qualification. For CIMA accountants they need to fill out a form, get a signature and boom, they are qualified. For me as a CIPFA accountant, well, I need to write a bloody book in comparison. Whilst i have made a start on it... due to life and other associated evils, I have not managed to finish it or get it ready to be submitted. I feel like a complete failure, not to say bloody nervous, that I am the only accountant in the team not to be fully qualified with letters after my name. :(

    Argh!!! :(:(:(

I'm afarid that this is not my area of expertise but is it worth righting down what you need to do to achieve it and how long this is going to take. I would imagine that you are allowed some study leave? Do you still have this as an option, if so if you were to take it would you be able to complete your qualification etc.

I'm assuming that you can't swap courses? What ever you do don't feel a failure - I'm sure your team don't see you as one and I would assume that there are reasons why you did the different course and at the end of the day you will get those letters and you will be more impressive than them as you have the Matrix behind you.

I had to fill out the CIMA form - it was 22 pages when I was done. It's not that nice!

If it's letters you want, borrow mine :P

Anyway, when you're ready to do yours, you'll do it. You have a much better job that the office junior. I guess you're paid significantly more than him/her too.

It's much easier to get your experience signed off when you don't have such a high-powered job.

When you decide you have a few spare days to sit down and create the bones of your submission, I'm happy to help you. Until then, don't worry about it. When you get round to doing it, passing is a foregone conclusion :)

Don't let this add to your stres, you'll only end up going under if you let it all pile up like this (I say that like I know don't I!)

Thanks TMIF - I have the plan of what I need to write, and what I need to do. I just need to have the time to sit down and actually do it. I think I might be doing this over the Christmas holiday... I was going to take home my laptop with me anyway... so it makes sense if I have some spare time and we are not whisking hither and thither visiting family and friends and what not.

Its a bit late to swop courses, cos I have finished the bloody exams! Its the professional portfolio I have to fill in and get people to sign bits off to prove that I worked there and did these things. It sucks. Especially when my career has taken a rather scenic route at times!! And sadly, my employers won't let me take study leave to do it either.
Do not compare yourself for a start and trust me having letters after your name doesn't necessarily make you good at your job ;)
You've made a start which is good - is it possible to schedule some time say in the new year for you to finish it??

Have a hug whilst we're at it xx

Thanks Bitsy. I needed to hear that!!

You lot are totally marvellous. Thank you all!! :T

The others have said it so well already, but your experience and skills are much more important than this. But if you really want to do it you will, when you have time and mental space to do it.

TMIF - I live near Brighton and we've got light snow forecast for the weekend....when we last had snow, the trains went up the swannee very quickly, and if you're driving, don't forget we've got lots of hills down here. But, looking at pictures of snow on the beach, it was amazing :)
  • What was the M27 like Kittikins?

I am hoping that if I park in Preston Park and use the bus, I might be ok... what do you think?

I rang the hotel, and she said I can call on Saturday morning to check the weather, and if I need to cancel without charge, which is good :)
  • Hello!

How is everyone getting on with the 50 day challenges? Is it Monday the 50th day? Some of mine are doing ok, others I will jsut need to put off until New Year.

Not liking the snow much, I hope it doesnt snow next week as I need to get home for Christmas!

What everybody else have said. You have already done your exams and I am sure all the others know it so I don't think they think anything different of you. I am 41 and only now I am doing ACCA (however I do have qualifications from different country) and sometimes in exams I feel like everyone's granny. By then the others don't have the experience to lean on that I do. :)

Crickett - what everybody else said I echo. Except to ad about working over Christmas, you do deserve to have a rest too you know. I think, from reading your posts, that you really are putting a lot of pressure on yourself. Ease up over Christmas. If you must do anything why not mind map what needs to be done and then set a realistic timetable to do it after Christmas. After all, you are not going to get people to sign things off over Christmas anyway. As for being the odd one out, well at least you are being different on purpose by choosing to take the other course. It helps to be unique :)

Kittikins - thanks re the light snow mention. I am heading South on Saturday and dont want to be delayed.

Hugs to all who need them.
