old style daily friday 19 november

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

  • Morning Halight & all who cross & follow.
Cold & foggy here this morning, hubby's been dropped at the station with his packup & the fish have been fed.
We have 11 visitors on Sunday coming for tea, so tomorrow will be taken up with getting ready for that, I'm making the choc chip cookies & the chocolate cheesecake from the Take away secret cook book & I'll make a couple of traybake sponges too. Last night I finished the black, grey & whtie scarf & started a green one.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning my lovelies :D

Think today will drag as I am veeeeeeeeeeery excited to be going to see A-Ha tonight at the NEC :j:j:j:j For those of you who have no idea who I am on about here's one of my fave songs
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAwWYVbMMUY&feature=related
So I shall be [STRIKE]lusting after[/STRIKE] enjoying the view of Morten Harket the lead singer and singing along. Thankfully unlike the last time I saw a "boy band" (New Kids on the Block) there won't be any daft screaming, crying and general hysterical behaviour from the other concert goers.

As such tea will be a makeshift, H will have to fend for himself!
Not much OS really, would like to fit in some baking, need to push vac round, got mindee coming today too.

Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning all,

Looks like it might be a bright but cold day, although we are due rain later on, next week is meant to be getting really cold with snow and sleet on the way

Off to work today, but finish at lunch time so a good day, I then need to nip home and put the dinner in the oven, (chicken curry for us and quorn curry for dd) and then go and collect dd from school and nip into town, she wants to go to poundland and get some bits for her birthday sleepover, and to the library for books.

Will do a wash tonght, and hang it on the airer, will try to get ahead with the weekends washing.

NPM, thanks for asking, my dad has been so much better since mum stopped the sleeping tablets, and started him on a mug of cocoa instead :T seems the old style ways really arre better, he is sleeping well and eating well, so all heading in the right direction, he is still very confused, but I think thats just the way he will be from now on :(. Hope you and Noah are ok xx

Bitsy, enjoy your gig, have a great time xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning campers ,dry but chilly day here in north Kent.School run this morning, only one more week before we spring the suprise on my son-in-law.
I am so looking forward to seeing his face as its the last thing in the world he would think he would be getting .my DD said she is going to buy a small really naff gift to give him first thing in the morning with the childrens presents and say 'sorry its not more but with me being out of work for a month its all I could get 'Then after she takes the kids to school (she's managed to get a day off) she will say oh here a card for you .I have mounted three things on three seperate coloured cards So he will get his first envelope which has a green card with a picture I googled of a Southern region train on it .underneath it says This is the train you have to catch at 11.10 with your wife for suprise no 1
When they get on the train she will hand him the second card which has a googled photo of the hotel they are staying in over night that night .This is mounted on a blue card and says 'you have to book into this hotel by 2.00.p.m.'
After they have booked in she will give him the final card that is in gold with a googled picture of 'We will Rock you' on it and it says be here at 7.00.p.m. to pick up the tickets for the show
Before they go I shall go to their house to pick them up to run them to the station .I shall give him his birthday card and a big brown envelope In it is bookings and train tickets for him and two of my grandsons to travel up to Liverpool and stay overnight in an hotel and tickets to see the Liverpool-v-Fulham game on 18th December. Both he and his two boys are devoted Liverpool supporters, yet have only ever seen them on t.v. and have never seen them play live at their home ground.I think he will be more than suprised and the boys ,one of whom Ben is 15 two days before they go on the 16th December will be so excited .The youngest one Henry I think will just decombust as he lives eats and sleep Liverpool.
I am so pleased that everything has slotted into place and it will be worth ever penny just to see the look on his face.
I think I am as excited as they will be.He is a devoted Dad to his kids, and would never think he would get to see his beloved Liverpool at AnfieldMy friend thinks I'm nuts but I think its my way to say thank you to him for all the care he has taken to my DD over the past few years .She had a rough time when her first marriage broke up and she couldn't want for a better husband than the one she has now, plus all the care he puts into looking after both the children and even me as nothing is ever too much trouble for him.
Today I have my history fun class this afternoon with fellow history nuts so I'm looking forard to that.I hope everyone keeps wrapped up warm and has a good day
    Cheers chums

    Morning all

Foggy to start to the morning here.

DH has finished up going into to work "for a couple of hours"! so we won't be leaving until he gets back, don't know what time that will be.

Last night's dinner was lovely, egg, bacon, etc, not very healthy but lovely. Did manage to get a good bulk of the jobs done yesterday, this morning I will be heading to the bank and the scales, stayed the same last week, I was really disappointed with that as I'd worked really hard on the diet for the last 2 weeks, so have carried on trying and will see what this morning brings ... I think as I'm now only wanting to lose another 11lb I'm going to have to fight for every pound ... deep joy! At least weight wise I know I'm in a much better place than where I was this time last year.

Have got DH and myself a meal deal for £10 from a well known supermarket to take away with us, this will be tonight's dinner and tomorrow night is a 3 course dinner provided, so not much cooking over the weekend for me.

Boys are going to grandparents whilst we're away, spoilt no doubt but they are playing in rugby matches on Sunday morning so will be tired when we get back in the afternoon, chilled and quiet Sunday evening I think!

Just need to pack few last minute bits, have a great weekend everyone.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Woke up to fog but that seems to have cleared somewhat now and you can see some sun peeking out. Non uniform day for kiddies at school (oh the joys) and a coffee afternoon all to raise monies so busy busy busy here. I have playgroup to go open up at 9 when ive done school run, the house to clean and a coffee afternoon to attend so i may even meet myself coming back :D
Best crack on and sort out the kids and myself im so tired and looking forward to shutting the curtains at 5pm and locking the world out to settle down and watch tv with the children all night.
Hope every one has a good day :)
Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait

    Morning all

Day off 'proper' work for me but I've plenty of Mystery shopping and auditing to keep me going!

Need to phone doctors first as DD has developed a terrible chesty cough and a very husky voice - just want to make sure its not an infection and if it is to get som AB's for it sooner rather than later. After that she will be getting well wrapped up and taken to a local seaside town where I have some jobs to do - sea air will do her good!:D

Need to pick up some shopping at some point, and I'm hoping to get as much as I can done today to have a quieter weekend while DH is working and get some batch cooking done. I also have a kitchen full of clothes that have been washed put need ironed/folded/put away.

    Have a good day!

Not much planned for today. DH wants to do a few more bits on the shed so I will probably make some bread for dinner tonight.

Silly Moo that I am I dropped a pan of hot water over my foot last night , luckily I got it straight in a bowl of cold water, it hasn't blistered and there doesn't seem to be much damage.

DD who has a first aid certificate wanted me to go to hospital, especially because I have varicose excema. But I sorted it myself. I really can't be asked sitting in a freezing cold waiting room for hours on end.

DS has just gone off to school and he finishes at 10am so he will help DH when he gets home.

Soup and pudding night tonight Mushroom Soup because I got a lot of RTC chestnut mushrooms from Aldi yesterday (35p a pack) :D and I only need 6 largish mushrooms, half a red onion some marigold boullion powder and a little cream for the soup, so a nice cheap meal that will feed 4 easily :D the rest have been frozen ready to add to meals. Rhubarb crumble and custard for pudding.

Well I am off to get the breakfast stuff washed up.
    Have good days all x
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
