Ford diesels dont like sainsburys
Warning !!!! anyone who has purchased a new ford
diesel (any make) DO NOT put sainsburys city diesel in the tank because it has the same affect as if you had put petrol in ,,,,,sister in law has a s-max 60 plate (diesel) and topped up with city diesel and made it home but later it would not start so called out the rac and he was baffled until he phoned around and got the heads up about the problem So if this has happened to you and you have been charged by ford get your money back because theyre not informing you that you have to steer clear of sainsburys

Oh yes they have. She should have read the Ford manual that has come with the car, which states the following:
"We recommend that you use only high quality fuel."
Even on the inside of the fuel filler cap there is a sticker that says Ford recommend BP.
If that is not a statement about not using supermarket fuel I don’t know what is.0 -
I've used Sainsbury's, Asda and Tesco diesel in my '04 plate Mondeo 2.0 TDCi without any problems although I do tend to avoid it as my car does run better and give me more miles if I use Shell. I assume the newer Ford diesel's are more fussy then?:A0

I put any old cr@p in mine and it seems to run ok.
It isn't a Ford though.0 -
I have a Ford Fiesta TDCi 1.6 and I put Sainsbury's "City Diesel" in it all the time, never had any issues.
!!!!!! is "City Diesel" anyway?0 -
We have the new Mondeo 163ps which is currently returning 32.7 mpg using Asda diesel - thanks for heads up.0

I run my BMW company car on any old diesel from wherever is most convenient. Never had any problems.
With respect to the OP, I think that it's just coincidence that something random has failed after filling up.The man without a signature.0 -
What a load of old tosh, especially this bit - "because it has the same affect as if you had put petrol in ". OP, if you can back up your claims with actual, documented FACTS then I might listen.0

Washing machines live longer with Calgon?
Hotpoint recommends persil?
Doesnt mean they wont work or break with anything else.
That aside, my 55 plate TDCI Mondeo only ever got supermarket fuel with no problems whatsoever.0 -
Mine is definitely happier on Shell. Once it's had a few tanks of Asda or Tesco through it, it's definitely slower to pick up if accelerating which makes starting to move off a bit harder.
Currently I'm alternating, one tank Shell, one tank Tesco and it seems ok. Not tried BP as BP is always much more expensive than everyone else.0 -
Whilst my Mondeo TDCi is happier on shell etc, it'll run just fine on Asda/Tesco/Morrisons with just a slight 1MPG or so drop in economy.
pstuart - you're getting just over half the MPG I get. Either something is wrong or you can't drive it properly.0
