There was an email address posted by MSE staff to send it to

i think it's

webmaster@monseysavingexpert.com

but dont take my word. wait for someone to confirm it correct.

EDIT: I was correct. On the first page of this thread it states to forward the message to this address

hope that helps

Thanks for that. I've forwarded it on to webmaster.

I have'nt given my email address to anyone on this site, except when registering. As i only have the one, i guard it with my life. I'm not one for multiple email addresses or user names. One will suffice. So few people and sites, actually have it, (unless of course its hacked).

Thanks for your help, Rossy

• I received one too although I joined here this year. I do use this user name and email for other forums, so my details could have been taken from another site.
Can't forward it as I deleted without opening it as I know I hadn't signed up for anything from moneyexpert
• Just to say that I didn't get and e-mail, have been a member since 2008. Thank you for the alert and all your hard work to get to the bottom of this.:T

I didn't get any email, been registered since 2010.

Hopefully you all work out what has happened. Linux servers seem particularly prone to being hacked. A few webhosts I've been with in the past had problems due to hacking (quite big names also). For a forum this size, there is obviously that risk.

Is it worth asking those who have had the email whether they have an MSE facebook account. I know I'm friends with lots of people through the competitions forum and add friends willy nilly to that facebook account. Some of our facebook accounts refer to our MSE username and once you're friends with someone, I suppose you can see their email address. This would mean that there's been no hacking at all - just a devious facebooker making out that they're an MSE'er and collecting that way. Just a thought!

I had one of the dodgy emails. Although I have a Facebook account, there is no way of connecting it to my MSE account. So that's that theory up in smoke :D

The only difference between the 2 accounts is that 1 is signed up to receive the weekly MSE email and the other is NOT.

That is interesting, now has anyone who has not signed up for weekly MSE emails received the spam email in question?
