It's wrong to be posting their address & contact details implying they've played some part in this.

If you're referring to me please re-read my original post when I put that information in. It's not wrong, it's freely available on the internet if you know how and I wasn't accusing them - in fact I was implying that they had nothing to do with this.

is it the link that's dodgy or the e-mail itself?

Does it not use a one way hash to store the passwords?

I found that comment unusual as well. !!!!!! is "double encryption" and why aren't hashes used?

The link *was* dodgy and has since been blocked but the fact that whomever was behind the mass email had the usernames for a lot of MSE users (freely available) but also the email addresses (private information on MSE which only admin should be able to get hold of) is concerning.

Yes I got one, but didn't link MoneyExpert to MSE, I joined way before 2009.

Didn't take much notice of it to be honest and just deleted it anyway.

Just to say if the forum database has been hacked.(which in all likelihood it has) The hacker would also be able to get access to any information passed via PM. It's pretty simple to do on v bulletin software and any experienced hacker will have no problem.
  • Also recieved this email.

Question is, it didn't come to my email address logged with the forum, but the email address that I get the money saving weekly email, so how come they've got my email address?
Spotted the SPAM straight away so wasn't fooled. The sending email address is wrong and why would a tool that would be on a website, need to be downloaded anyway? esp a ZIP file. But I can see many unwary people being fooled, scammed or worse!
