I have another question for those who have already done this. I have packed a bag for me and a changing bag for the baby. Someone has told me that you won't be allowed to bring these both with you to the delivery suite and maybe I should rearrange and have a changing bag with stuff I'd like in the delivery suite and everything else in the other bag. What do you think?

Not allowed?? Tell them to sugar off, you're not going into prison.

I took a skanky old pouffe from my sitting room in case I wanted to sit on that, the only person who used it at home was the dog:rotfl:

I know. I just called them and asked would I be able to bring my stuff with me and she said "all you will need to bring will be 1 nappy, but if you want to take a few toiletries in a small bag that would be OK"
  • I would just pretend you didn't understand and if they try to take it off you, deliver the prison line!

Had a driving lesson this morning where we did a mock test, and I failed spectacularly. In fairness though, my instructor did take me on the hardest route so at least if I get that I know what to look out for down that route in particular. Is it Krystal who has her test the same day as me?? Hows it going?

Big mugs of (decaff if youve gone down that road) tea and big slabs of chocolate (if it doesnt give you too much heartburn lol) all round xxxx

Hi there! I'm doing driving lessons too and had a mock exam just now! In Holland it's quite official (with proper examiner). If you do well on the parking/turning then you don't have to do them in the proper one. I actually managed to pass them which totally amazed me! My instructor is very strict, but I think this examiner was quite lenient!
Just hope I can pass the real thing before the bump is too big.... I'm short with short legs so I have the seat as far forward as it goes and I'm already quite close to the steering wheel......

CL - last time I had a little wheeled case with a clean nightie and underwear for me (and one for labour), and a couple of babygros and vests, half a pack of nappies, some wipes, and half a pack of pads. Plus a small toiletry bag with toothbrush and shower gel. Then I had a second bag with more stuff in that I left in the car, in case we were kept in.

I would do much the same again this time if I end up in hospital, definitely easier than heaving lots of stuff around whilst in labour (I spent much of it hanging off OH, so he was not much good for bag-carrying either). I also left the carseat in the car, with a snowsuit, hat and blankets in it, ready to bring him home.

Nic, hugs to you, moving house is not fun at the best of times, and it does take time to settle into somewhere new. Nothing like a beautiful brand new baby for breaking the ice though :)

Sarah - my OH has been having a wobble recently too - although he'd not be coming back through the door tonight if he'd said what yours did! He says he thinks it was the same the last time I was pregnant too, at around 30 weeks. Separate to the issue of him being horrible, there is no excuse for that, but I think they do have trouble at times adjusting, especially as it's not physically them it's happening to. I bet lots of us due around the same time get hubby-wobbles all together. Let's hope he pulls himself together and is extra nice to you tonight. :grouphug:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Oh grateful you make me laugh! When I read the bit in bold I thought it read "I told a skanky old p00f in my living room...." (sorry not very pc :o) then reread it properly!

I took a massive bag into delivery room, it had EVERYTHING in it! It was one of those ones on wheels and my in laws use it for their hols :o:D Well I had been in for a week and never really thought about packing 2 backs. Oh well will know what to do this time!

how strange.... is this for a c-sect in a operating room? At ours - for a normal birth - you are examined them (hopefully) put into your own labour delivery room. it's a lovely self contained room bed, chair, full en-suite bathroom where you can decamp and get ready for the long haul. then after baby is born and you have been stitched etc you go up to the pokey little ward. We got shouted at in the ward for having the car seat with us when there was no room till we said we were relying on a taxi or bessie mate to pick us up as we didn't own a car and would not be able to transport baby home otherwise..... they soon shut up.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

It is indeed... We did a short mock test the week before last and I bummed up just about everything I could have done... I felt very depressed and disheartened afterwards and started fretting about wasting all the test money, but then I spoke to my instructor about it and about whether she thought I was ready... We decided to do another mock test and see from there whether I should go ahead with the test booked or postpone it... So I did another on Saturday, I felt a lot more relaxed about it. I knew the bit I'd fluffed up as soon as I did it (stoopid island!) but I did 100% better than the first mock I did... I think it was mostly the unknown that made me so bad the first time so it wasn't quite so intimidating the second time... I also think knowing if I really wasn't ready we could just put it off and it wouldn't be the end of the world helped too...

I'm still a bit nervous about it though... I did arrange 3 lessons for this week but my friend who was supposed to have the monkey for me today decided at 11pm last night that she had no knowledge of our arrangement at all so I had to cancel todays... Still got Wednesday and Saturday lol...

How ridiculous! So you take 1 nappy and a vest in with you, an hour after birth the baby explodes with meconium all over the only nappy and change of clothes you have, what are you supposed to do then? Fools...

What I did last time was:

    • Changing bag for baby (the freebie boots one) everything stacked in, in order so that even Hubby could find stuff...
    • Small suitcase for taking on the ward, almost completely taken up with maternity pads and an old towel, but included my book and a change of clothes to wear home.
    • Cool bag full of snacks and drinks for Hubby... I did tell him to make sarnies and things to take but he didn't listen to me... I think he will this time though, he was starving by the time he got home about 1am after being at the hospital since 3pm...
    • Carrier bag for labour that had 2 old nighties, an old towel, the ipod and battery operated dock and a pair of pyjamas to change into afterwards.
I purposely did a carrier bag for the labour one so the dirty stuff could just get crammed back in when it was finished with... We also ended up with about 3 bounty bags that Hubby stuffed into the cool bag once it was emptier...

I kept my ward and labour bag seperately because with DD1 I'd put it all in together and my sister ended up taking my towel, change of clothes and book home with her leaving me very bored on the ward... Last time around I knew there was no reason to go into the ward bag during labour so I had everything I needed when I got to the ward... I suppose if we'd have driven, we might have left the ward bag in the car...

Hopefully this time I'll bypass the ward and go straight home with the baby!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Krystal and Chicky - I've no idea how it works in other places, but where I had DS, they had labour rooms, which were as you describe, and then a couple of delivery suites, which had a bit more medical gadgetry about, and one of those clever beds that look like Transformers. I was moved into delivery suite when I was 10cm dilated, and hoofed out again after a quick clean-up, straight up to the ward (it was an exceptionally busy night, I don't think it was standard practice, but it does happen).

Not for section. I'm going in tomorrow night to be induced. I have to go first to the ward where new mothers and their babies are, to be induced. When you are in established labour you are taken to the delivery suite (your own room and en-suite) and then you are brought back to the ward you were on to begin with after the baby is born. They expect you to leave most of your stuff on the first ward.
