As far as doulas,I was in touch with a doula who posted on netmums. She was finishing her training and needed some case studies. She was offering her services for free in return for you speaking to her mentor at some point and being a case study.
She was pretty much fully qualified. I would of used her and we were about to meet, but we moved. You could maybe get in touch with one of their training courses and see if anyone needs the same?
Thanks Nic, will look into that, although I do hope I don't need to go down that route. Hope you lil ones feel better soon. ((hugs))
Hitchins - gorgeous pic of the tummy tub and occupant!!! Sweet!!!
Susan - A pram suit is just like a snow suit I guess. Haha, just seen that Teenie replied already!! Ta.

RBG - Awh, it is nice to see someone post something so close to my own opinions. I too am on my first pregancy and this thread has been a life saver at times and it is like you are my friends as you show regularly you care!!
Sammy - any of that macaroni cheese left, it's my favourite!!!! Like you, I didn't get offered the GTT (I think my BMI was a bitty high to start with but hey ho) but I did get the Anti D. Now that obviously made up for it!!!!!
Cutterby - sorry you are leaving, I will miss your very distinctive pink posts!!! All the very best and it'd be nice to see you, even if it's just to say hi once and a while!!!
Lauren - ((hugs)) Sticky vibes for you my dear.
MV - Major (((Hugs))) hunni. I don't think any of us first time mums has any clue how difficult it is going to be!! I guess it will get easier, crickey, I hope so!!! lol
MI3 and Iwcus- unsticky vibes for you!!!!
Not much happening with me other than I am the usual and tired. Baby was partying this afternoon once again. Joy.

LOL no practice needed there, some days I never stop (and sometimes it tends to creep out unannounced
:D)
:rotfl: What she said.
Last time I was having the GTT (to prevent large baby) for family history and growth scans (to check for small baby) because of low "pre" pregnancy BMI. This time I'm not going to let them weigh me - I'll just tell them my real pre pregnancy weight. OH is already getting stressed out about me refusing lots of things as he hates not just going along with the "experts".
But then, when he's the one carrying the babies he can do whatever tests he likes, until then... My decision!!
I'm sitting on a big ball in too small pyjamas with my belly hanging out the front and a hot water bottle hanging out the back... It's nothing but glamour in this house!!:cool:A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Forgive me for asking but why are they doing a GTT at 38 weeks? The figures for glucose levels in pregnancy are based on much earlier (24-28 weeks IIRC but I'd have to look it up) and throughout pregnancy your blood glucose levels get higher and your insulin gets less effective so if they do a test at such a late date you are much more likely to be outside the "normal" range. I understand that the purpose of diagnosing "gestational diabetes" is to reduce infant macrosomia but if you had a scan for measuring small for dates then presumably they would have checked the size of the baby anyway? The "treatment" for GD would generally be modified diet etc. to control blood sugar levels and/or early induction but at this stage given the polyhydramnios (which is an indication for early induction) I can't see that a diagnosis of GD would actually result in any change of treatment.
They will pay extra attention to babies glucose levels after birth. And if the GTT came back as high then it's still 2 weeks to try and get it under control so that there is less risk of hypoglycemia in the baby after birth. Or even 1 week if they think it's a better idea to get baby out sooner.
Remember that GD babies are not always big, Amber was 6lb15oz (37 weeks) which is not what they were expecting but she still had severe hypoglycemia.
Just knowing that there was a risk changed my attitude to how she would be treated (I gave her formula top ups to try and get the levels up before they put her on a drip, I made them change to a 3 hourly feeding schedule etc). So while it may not change treatment, it is beneficial to know if you're expecting a baby who may need some extra help.
And ofcourse if it does come back clear then they can score it off and get back to home birthing
But I should point out, it was kinda obvious that I had GD. Drinking constantly, peeing constantly (yeah more than normal for pregnancy) and I always had a trace of a few ++ of glucose in my urine. Plus, my pee smelled sweet no matter what I had been eating (TMI?)0 -
